First Look: Document Journal

October 1st, 2015 |Posted by steven.yatsko

In the latest volume of Document Journal, stylist Olivier Rizzo delivers his magic touch, guest editing the magazine into a full on fashion folio with some of photography’s brightest stars and a who’s who cast of intriguing lens-worthy faces. The twelve, Rizzo-styled covers give a swatch sized glimpse into the accompanying editorials by Jamie HawkesworthCraig McDean, Wolfgang TillmansHarley WeirAlasdair McLellan and a whopping 7 by Willy Vanderperre. Editors Nick Vogelson & James Valeri‘s issue preface introduces Rizzo’s significance by saying, “His ingrained devotion to beauty— unconventional, sometimes ugly, and at times simple—led us to him, and him to us, as Document’s guest editor for this issue.” Inside, the exhaustive Vanderperre stories put on display his singularly cool perspective, while other majorly aesthetic imaginings, like Gareth McConnell‘s low-fi, hyper pop pictures or McDean’s fine-tuned shots of Lexi Boling, give another take on what’s current. Take an exclusive first look into the encompassing Olivier Rizzo edited issue with all 12 covers.

Optology Issue #3

July 7th, 2014 |Posted by jonathanshia

When Jonathan Arundel launched his photography and fashion journal Optology Magazine last year, he quickly established a high standard for the publication’s content and design, with rich, gorgeous stories and a sui generis, pared-down aesthetic. The latest issue, the third, is no different, starting from the charming portrait of a smiling Ben Allen that graces the glowing yellow cover. The features within hew to the quiet vision of the magazine, which bills itself as “dedicated to showcasing the finest photography and styling talent.” The cover story within, shot by Harry Carr with styling by Hannah Elwell, captures a new maturity in the young Allen, while Elliot Vulliod headlines his own story and up-and-comers like Dylan Fosket and Karlis Adlers are featured as well. Thomas Giddings gives us a pensive feature starring Andreas Lindquist with styling by Andreas Kokkino, with a gentle mood that carries over into Fanny Latour-Lambert (Walter Schupfer Management)’s images (styling by Optology’s fashion director Madeleine Østlie), which offer hushed slices of thoughtful youth at play.

First Look: Optology

November 27th, 2013 |Posted by

The beguiling little British magazine Optology has already caught our eye with their second issue. Featuring cover models Simon Sabbah and Sylvester Ulv Henriksen, the magazine looks and feels like a catalog from the early 20th century. The magazine’s title, an archaic word referring to the study of sight is an interesting summation of the slim and beautifully printed issue. has a preview of the 2 cover stories below.
