Vamping It Up

September 5th, 2014 |Posted by Janelle

Since its debut Vamp Magazine has been about powerful women, the kind who command attention whether they’re in the boardroom or on the catwalk. Issue No. 2 centers around the theme of personality – big, bombastic personalities that draw people in – the idea is hammered home via the five cover stars – Malgosia Bela, Binx Walton, Lily McMenamy, Suvi Koponen and Kim Peers women admired for their ability to bring something different to the table. The editorial content follows suit with arresting new fashion stories, each one bolder than the last – take a first look below.

First Look: Document No. 4

April 25th, 2014 |Posted by Matthew

documentj

Many magazines set out to bridge the worlds of art and fashion, but few compare to the engaging volumes Document assembles with each issue. After last fall’s Paul McCarthy designed cover, Document’s offering for S/S 14 continues to combine arresting editorials, bastions of the contemporary art world, and vital conversations to provide a comprehensive window onto today’s cultural landscape.

Seeking “spontanaeity, authenticity, and simplicity,” Document No. 4 addresses authorship with photographer Nan Goldin, architecture with Brazil’s Carla Juaçaba, and diversity with Liya Kebede and Bethann Hardison. Elsewhere, fashion crossovers Willem Dafoe and Erykah Badu discuss unique presence in the respective worlds of cinema and music, while legends of style Didier Malige (Art Partner) and Joe McKenna (Art Partner) collide to discuss fashion past, present, and future.

As for the editorials, Document showcases top models Malgosia Bela and Freja Beha Erichsen on two different covers that illuminate each versatile beauty’s standalone presence. Photographer Benjamin Alexander Huseby shoots Malgosia styled by Jodie Barnes in an array of guises that hit the season’s boldest trends. Exploring performance, photographer Collier Schorr captures Freja’s nuanced turn as a Method actor. The unstoppable Amanda Wellsh plays around before Alex Olson’s lens, Lily McMenamy styles herself for a profile of designer Simon Porte Jacquemus, and things turn surreal when Camilla Akrans (Stockholm: LUNDLUND, New York: Management + Artists) shoots Missy Rayder. Not to be surpassed in the months between biannual issues, Document and photographer Christian MacDonald nominate 17 of spring’s most promising faces, all sporting pre-Fall looks styled by Document’s Fashion Director James Valeri.

Be on the lookout for Document No. 4, on newsstands now.

First Look: Lurve

April 24th, 2014 |Posted by models.com

Lurve Magazine‘s next era kicks off with a stellar issue with a fresh perspective on fashion. Editor in chief Lyna V. Ahanda, new fashion director Moreno Galatà and fashion editor Alessandra Conti create an issue focused on a modern interpretation of 90s style fashion photography. Bringing all the raw energy and individualism that defined the 90s aesthetic back into the mix is an inspired move and one that makes each editorial feel vital.

The issue’s six covers take the theme head on with a diverse lineup of models & photogs; reportage photographer Olivia Arthur shoots model Adwoa Aboah in Louis Vuitton; while Lily McMenamy sports Céline in a stylized shot by Sonia Sieff. Queen of cool Caroline de Maigret shows another side in an elegant image by Alessio BolzoniRobbie McKinnon sports a brush and stacks of vinyl in his cheeky cover by Edmund Aves. The always chic Elisa Sednaoui is serene in Prada in her cover by Laurence Ellis (Visual Artist UK ) and Hanne Gaby Odiele delights in a striking image by Dario Catellani (Paris: ArtList Paris, New York: ArtList NY)

Inside the content is every bit as compelling as the covers, with an array of contributors providing exciting new edits that adhere to that avant garde 90s spirit. Each story is special in its own way, but famed street photographer Nick Turpin providing his first fashion work, shooting Neelam Johal in a museum setting is a bonafide moment.

First Look: Centrefold Issue 10

April 8th, 2014 |Posted by Matthew

When Centrefold Magazine debuted in 2003, the large format glossy was one of a new breed of A2-sized magazines on newsstands. Since then, that market has grown and the team at Centrefold has observed, like the rest of us, the rise of citizen photography and the advent of the smart phone. Thus, for Issue 10, Centrefold commissioned 9 diverse photographers to shoot editorials using only the Nokia Lumia 1020 smart phone. The results are compiled in the upcoming issue, which features a captivating array of content shot all over the world by Tung Walsh, Damon Baker, Eric Guillemain, and many more. Exploring the Beyond—Issue 10’s theme—Centrefold embraces the ever-present smart phone with 5 stunning covers featuring Zuzanna Bijoch, Eliza Cummings, Lily McMenamy, Sam Rollinson and Marcelle Pallais. Go Beyond and take a look at Issue 10 below.

First Look: Russh’s Tribes

February 5th, 2014 |Posted by models.com

This Spring, fashion’s wild for tribes. Russh tackles this trend exclusively in their February/March issue, taking a look at the tribes that define and empower us. Representing one “Of the Tribe,” cover star and Hot List-er Lily McMenamy proudly follows in supermodel mom Kristen’s footsteps. Lily’s edit, shot by Alex Franco, proves she’s striking out with a bit of her mother’s trademark strength and beauty. Elsewhere in Issue 56, RUSSH spotlights the international style of Harajuku girls, checks in with newcomer Langley Fox (another of Hemingway’s gorgeous granddaughters), and celebrates the 20th Year of Wu-Tang Clan. Inviting you to join in “Meet You There”, Erin Heatherton (who belongs to that winged tribe of Victoria’s Secret Angels) plays up tribal looks from Michael Kors, Hermès, and Burberry on the beaches of Bali.
