The barely there makeup by Aaron de Mey and hair by Recine help, but the allure is pure Bundchen! Dressed in sleek seasonal styles by Balenciaga, Céline and Kenzo, selected by none other than Marie Chaix, Gisele looks every inch the supermodel.
Arizona Muse goes around the world for Vogue Russiain an elegant story by Tom Craig. Part travelogue / part fashion journey, the editorial follows Arizona through the streets of Sicily as she wears a selection of luxe yet casual pieces selected by stylist, Olga Dunina. Clad in pieces from Bottega Veneta, Kenzo, Ralph Lauren and of course Dolce & Gabbana, Arizona makes an especially elegant tourist. The accompanying video by Craig, with cinematography by Gus & Stella take the trip one step further with a beautiful exploration of one of the world’s loveliest islands.
We can always count on Tom Ford for an epitomized version of modern glamour and his latest campaign delivers with sleek shots by Ford himself of Karlina Caune and Simon Van Meervenne. Playing to his strengths the designer / photographer / director / provocateur creates simple images that focus on those decadent designs. Who needs exotic locations and complicated set ups when you have the beauty of those golden to the knee sandals and fringed shoes! Karlina and Simon look pretty damn good too, both models capture the slightly dangerous and oh so sexy vibe of Ford’s ethos.
Given the memorable way Wang presented his S/S collection’s glow in the dark dresses, we were expecting a campaign with flashing lights, or blinding neons from Alexander Wang. Never one to go for the obvious thrill, Wang enlists Steven Klein and Pascal Dangin for an evocative campaign featuring the Malgosia Bela. The beauty of these images lies in the artistic way in which the clothing is presented: with her body painted in white and the stark backdrop, Malgosia looks more like a performance artist than a model. As the Wang label enters into its next stage of development this campaign provides a dynamic and eye-catching brand message.
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Kenzo’s F/W ads by Jean Paul Goude were arresting and upbeat – they even made our best of 2012 list and for S/S the saga continues with Ming Xi and Jester White picking up where things left off. We didn’t think it would be possible, but these ads are even more colorful and kooky than the first set.
Karim Sadli shoots Akris’ understated S/S ads featuring Alana Zimmer. Akris has always been about luxury that whispers instead of shouts and Saldi does an excellent job of communicating that message visually. Albert Kriemler’s elegantly minimal designs look especially beautiful set against the lush green backdrop and Alana is as lovely as ever.
Roberto Cavalli’s clothes are not for wallflowers, so it makes sense that the S/S campaign features three of the boldest and mostt compelling models around. Isabeli Fontana, Malgosia Bela and Sui He star in Mario Testino‘s kinetic images filled with bold prints, saturated colors and the brand’s signature in your face opulence.
Paris fashion week was filled with beautiful moments du jour, but none were quite as cool as KENZO‘s safari chic collection. Filled with references to the original ‘Jungle Jap’ store, started by founder Kenzo Takada and an offbeat eclecticism that looked great on the runway, Humberto Leon and Carol Lim pulled off one of the season’s most inventive showings. Experience what it was like behind the scenes with this incredible video that takes you backstage and into the front row. With fall ads launching earlier than ever (remember the days of opening up September Vogue and experiencing new ads for the very first time) there are already several ads that impress us with their unique interpretation of their brand’s message. The brand’s thrilling reboot continues with Jean Paul Goude breathing new life into the fall campaign imagery. Xiao Wen Ju & Simon Sabbah are connected in these cheeky reversible shots with a neon Kenzo logo flashing in the background. Goude’s image has instant visual impact and is a fun showcase for those cool Humberto Leon and Carol Lim designs.
In case you had any doubt’s about Raf Simons’ ability to be subversive check out the striking new f/w ads by Pierre Debusschere starring Yannick Abrath. The impressive sculptural shots are a sight to behold, as is the corresponding campaign video that brings the imagery to life with beautifully abstract visuals.
The fuzzy-wuzzies from Where the Wild Things Are invade Tim Walker‘s fantastical ads for Mulberry. The ads otherworldly vibe is only heightened by the addition of fashion’s favorite pixie, Lindsey Wixson and Jane How‘s sleek styling.
As fashion’s foremost purveyor of nomad chic, Hans Feurer‘s images are unmistakable. Though his body of work is diverse, the pictures that stand out most tend to feature a series of Feurer signatures; layered undone styling, exotic locations and bold tribal makeup. Look at his latest stories for Vogue Paris andVogue Japan respectively and you’ll see all the trademarks of his aesthetic. VP’s Karmen Pedaru story goes for a harder edge, while his images of Constance Jablonski are all about highlighting her refined beauty, but both stories hinge on variations of the same idea.
