Guccissima

August 15th, 2011 |Posted by Janelle

The Gucci look could never be called minimalist but in Love Magazine‘s latest issue, a pared down Natalia Vodianova makes the line’s ostentatious wares look downright austere. The beautiful and simple shots by Alasdair McLellan capture Natalia’s beauty and Katie Grand‘s impeccable styling brings out the best of Gucci’s archival pieces.

Bits & Bytes: Ragtag!

May 26th, 2011 |Posted by Betty

Tao Okamoto by Russell James. Image courtesy of Tao

Naomi! Liu! Sean O! and more….Tao Okamoto’s Save Japan event is finally here. See items donated by the legendary Naomi Campbell, top models Jenny Shimizu, Heidi Mount, Liu Wen, Sean O’Pry and industry figures like François Nars, Cecilia Dean, Marie Chaix, Phillip Lim, Catherine Malandrino, Thakoon, Pamela Love and many more to raise money for the disaster in Japan. Though the location is called Saturday, the event is actually on Sunday, the 29th. Though we’re dying to see all the fashion items donated by such an eclectic and fabulous crowd, even better may be the chance to see some of these faces on Sunday pitching in for such a great cause. See you Sunday!

The awesome Sally Lyndley talks styling with Katie Grand on Fashionista. Also make sure you check out Katie’s new website, KatieGrand.com.

Carine Roitfeld, the “editrix/dominatrix” talks about her resemblance to Iggy Pop. Love it.

The Imagist has images of Ellen von Unwerth shot by the iconic Guy Bourdin, before she became a top photographer.

Lady Gaga and Karl Lagerfeld‘s t-shirts are our favorites in the Uniqlo t-shirt benefiting the Japanese Red Cross, available next month. Which is yours?

We love Mcqueen as much as the next person but it’s still fascinating to read about his dark side.

Are you Twitter? You’re not? Maybe that’s better, says the NYTimes. Meanwhile the entire MDC crew is: @themoskovic, @hisssquad, @ninjasze, @sansartifice, @fsorrenti, @jonathanshia.

A Leg Up!

August 25th, 2010 |Posted by Janelle

The feminine 50s trend strikes again, this time in the pages of Vogue Nippon with a cheeky editorial by Sølve Sundsbø. In the story Ana Beatriz Barros and Alessandra Ambrosio fall head over heels for luxurious ensembles by Vuitton and Cacherel, all chosen by superstylist Katie Grand. While Ale and Ana look fit for an episode of Mad Men, Solve adds in a touch of whimsy by shooting the girls upside down and lounging like true retro pinups – the look is sexy, coy and just a little demure.

Vogue Russia is full of surprises… Willy Vanderperre‘s star-studded editorial features the return of 90s icon Claudia Mason, as well as the editorial debut of Brit headline maker Abbey Clancy. Styled by the incomparable Katie Grand, the story also features the red hot trio of Alessandra Ambrosio, Ana Beatriz Barros and Noemie Lenoir not to mention some of fall’s most scintillating shapes.

Industrie Strength

June 21st, 2010 |Posted by Janelle

New magazines keep coming and one of the most unique titles to debut this year is Industrie; focusing on the talent behind the scenes and offering an insiders perspective, the magazine sets itself apart from the pack. Interviews with fashion stars like Katie Grand, Patrick Demarchelier, Karl Templer Natalie Massenet, Christian Louboutin, Lachlan Bailey and Rick Owens, make it a must read and content from contributors like Camilla Akrans is fresh and engaging. Be sure to check out Industrie when it hits newsstands this week in the US.

Love Love

June 8th, 2010 |Posted by Betty

kristen

LOVE Magazine’s new site is up and it’s a refreshing breather from so many of the stuffy fashion/magazine websites.

LOVE’s Editor-in-Chief Katie Grand worked with freelance art director Jonny Lu to create the unconventional melange of images and ideas. LOVE explains how the homepage came about:

“Lu made the animation of the sleeping bear from a life size Marc Jacobs Steiff teddy bear that Grand sent to his studio. The cute animal icons respond when a dancing bear cursor moves across them; Lu will be adding more, with a floating boombox playing The Man I Love by Ella Fitzgerald, that is very 50s and romantic, in contrast to the technology of the site.”

Obviously, all this adorableness wouldn’t work if there wasn’t the visionary Ms. Grand behind it driving the site.  Currently, there’s an exclusive film for Commes des Garçons new fragrance on the site, clips from a James Lima/Grand film for Louis Vuitton,  reports from VS Angel Alessandra Ambrosio and much more fashion fabulousness to come.

Next for LOVE? An iPad ready format. Better make sure it’s encased in its LV/Gucci iPad cover.

A Dolls House

May 27th, 2010 |Posted by Janelle

Solve Sundsbo‘s transforms Alessandra Ambrosio into a living doll for the debut issue of Industrie. In the Japanese cartoon doll inspired story, styled by Katie Grand, Alessandra is nearly unrecognizable beneath layers of white makeup and a platinum wig, the drastic change allows Ale, to take on a whole new character. In addition to Ale, the highly stylized story, also serves as a retrospective of Giles Deacon’s most striking pieces!

Bits & Bytes: Hanne on a Summery Day

May 21st, 2010 |Posted by Betty

Hanne by Andrew. On a lovely Friday in New York, Hanne stops by to see Andrew Weir for a casting.

Photography news:

Unbelievable! David Bailey has worked with British Vogue for 50 years. See all the lovely ladies that came out to honor him. We salute you David!

Find out here about the Made in Brazil Magazine filled with some of the sexiest of male models of today (and where to order it). Part 2 is here. Get it, it’s a collector’s piece. We are announcing MODELS.com’s winners of the giveaways next week.

The Imagist has a fascinating interview with Hugh Lippe, definitely a young, talented photographer to watch.

Haiti is no longer so prevalent in the news but that doesn’t mean the Haitians need any less help. Look at these incredible images in a Art for Haiti auction that just began. Stam is in 2 of the shots; all the artwork is phenomenal and starting at outrageously affordable prices and for such a great cause; it’s a must see.

For those of you bemoaning the lack of naked women or breasts or just general salaciousness on Terry Richardson’s blog, don’t you fret… Andrew Richardson‘s Magazine is relaunching any day now. No, they are not related, except maybe metaphorically speaking in their obvious love for breasts.

If you’re in Paris, go check out the wonderful Ellen von Unwerth Cinema exhibition. (Till June 19th)

Not modeling related but how cool is Jed Root’s photographer Mary Ellen Matthews who is Saturday Night Live’s house photographer?

Fashion:

Why Riccardo Tisci matters. Here is Sans Artifice’s take on it.

If you missed it, Alber Elbaz, talks to Style.com in their Future of Fashion series.

OK. I finally get the hype about young Tavi now. Just read this post by her on the whole recent Terry kerfuffle and am blown away by the insightfulness of this 14 year old young lady.

Like 10 Magazine, we are obsessing over this bag. And damn you Tommy Ton for suddenly making us want all of these.

Katie Grand pens this moving tribute to industry powerhouse Katy Baggot who passed away so suddenly.

Anna Sui‘s book is coming out and we cannot wait! With an introduction by Steven Meisel, expect the book to have much fabulousness.

Anne Christensen rumored to fill the top slot at the New York Times’ T Magazine. We’ll let you know if it’s not true.

Modeling news:

From Marpessa to Carla Bruni to Mariacarla Boscono, former model turned agent to the superstars, Woman Milan’s Piero Piazzi is amazing. Read his interview and see a picture of him!

Talk about inspirational. Fernando Fernandes, you may remember got paralyzed from a car accident (see him here in the current Dolce Gabbana fragrance campaign) . He’s already in a new ad which just shot.

OK, this trailer made me cry. Incredible model/activist Liya Kebede, in Desert Flower, rocks my world portraying the incredible model/activist Waris Dirie.

Next in line to design is Irina Lazareanu, calling it Rini by Irina. She has phenomenal style though so it could be pretty darn good.

This just in. 9 Daughter & A Stereo, who repped some of the coolest, quirkiest boys around, is rumored to have closed. So sad if that’s true.
