As Seen on TV!

January 6th, 2012 |Posted by Janelle

Were there an actual Italian Vogue channel we would watch it 24/7 as it would most certainly trump some of the lackluster “fashion” television on the air right now. The Conde Nast entertainment division has yet to provide us with such an incredible gift, but if the January Vogue Italia coverstory is anything to go by there is certainly potential for hilarity and hijinks. Sending up the popular Home Shopping networks with a Steven Meisel story featuring top models is a brilliant idea and one that translates beautifully. While we doubt that you’re ever going to be able to buy that Chanel gown off the back of Daria Strokous QVC, it is amazing to see the land of snuggies and SlapChops invaded by high fashion. With stellar hair by Jimmy Paul and gorgeous Dolce & Gabbana makeup by Pat McGrath all this story needed as a cameo by Joan Rivers to push it over the top and into the realm of iconic editorials.

Karlie Kloss bares all for Steven Meisel‘s camera in the latest Vogue Italia . The studio shoot simply named ‘Body by Kloss’ focuses on Karlie’s lithe physique and gamine presence. Can you believe it was only a few short years ago Miss Kloss came on the scene as a fresh faced newbie? Now she’s showing the world the graceful woman she’s become.

Nightlife

October 10th, 2011 |Posted by Janelle

Take away the cultivated coating of sleaze from Terry Richardson‘s work and you’re left with a surprisingly skillful snapshot photographer. Case in point his latest story for British Vogue is an elegant and upbeat trip through Manhattan nightlife. With the neon lights of the Odeon in the background, the bouyant energy of Karlie Kloss and some killer styling by Charlotte Pilcher, the editorial captures the vibrant life of a girl on the go. As always Karlie brings an effortless quality to her poses and her wholesome natural glamour shines, even when she’s dressed as a female version of Mr. Richardson or munching on a plate of french fries.

Double Kloss

July 19th, 2011 |Posted by Janelle

Just when you’ve think you’ve seen every possible incarnation of Karlie Kloss, she pulls another one out of her hat. The teen modeling queen shows up in Vogue Italia and American Vogue this month, sporting two very different looks. In Craig McDean‘s sleek portraits, Karlie sports a jet black crop and some seriously stylish graphic looks created by Camilla Nickerson. For Stephane Sednaoui‘s black and white series, Karlie traipses around NYC with futuristic sunglasses and a towering bouffant.

mdc ♥s : Young at Heart

July 7th, 2011 |Posted by Janelle

Bubbly budding supermodel Lindsey Wixson is the ultimate teen beauty -tell us who your fave teen modeling queen is for a chance to win one of the fragrances! – Congrats to our winner Lizzie!

This week our focus turns to beauty for our younger readers and anyone young at heart. The average new face is still in their teens and so were all our great volunteers for this story – special thanks to Alison, Jacqueline, David, Joanna, Harini, Emily and Stacey! Here are a few of our personal favorite products designed with teens in mind – be sure to tell us your own in the comments!

FRAGRANCE

There are about a million different fragrances out there geared towards a teen demographic, but a few gorgeous scents from some of our favorite designers are just right.

MARC JACOBS LOLA – Playfulness personified: with Karlie Kloss fronting the campaign and the adorable rose topped bottle, it is hard not to fall in love with Lola. The fruity floral mix provides a spritz of youthful energy with it’s blend of pink peppercorn, pear, ruby red grapefruit, geranium and rose. Appropriate for all occasions and just right for the girly girl in all of us.

CK1 SUMMER – It is safe to say that almost everyone has tried out the original (and uberpopular) CK1, but limited edition the summer version provides a new twist on the Calvin classic. You’ve still got the unisex and lightweight ease of the first, but with a modernized feel and innate cool.

VERA WANG PREPPY PRINCESS – the entire Princess line was designed with Vera’s daughters as muses, so it is no surprise it was a favorite with our younger testers. They loved the sweet blend of red berries, apples and tangerine so much that there was a little battle over the bottle!

SKINCARE
BURT’S BEES ACNE SOLUTIONS

One of the biggest skin concerns for teens is acne prevention: everyone, even the most popular models on the planet, gets a zit from time to time. Finding products that work can be costly and time consuming, but of the lines our teen testers sampled Burt’s Bees received the very best reviews. The fact that it was all natural played a big part in their choice – favorites from the line included the Pore refining scrub and Purifying cleansing gel.

MAKEUPESSENCE COSMETICS

Bored with the usual suspects, our group gravitated towards Essence, an affordable brand with a wide range of colors and textures. With nothing over 5 bucks a pop, you won’t break the bank but the quality was exceptional. Favorite products included, the long lasting lipgloss and stay put all day gel liners.
