Man Oh Man

July 16th, 2010 |Posted by Betty

Let’s not forget some of our favorite men coming out this fall. Man of the season Oleg Antosik cuts a striking figure for cK Calvin Klein by Fabien Baron. The always in demand Sean O’Pry headlines a stellar and sophisticated cast of Mathias Bergh, Jake Davies and hot newcomer Corey Baptiste in a debonair DKNY Men campaign by Nathaniel Goldberg. You’ll be seeing much more of Nikola Jovanovic come fall, here’s a classic image of him by Emilio Tini for Gianfranco Ferre Eyewear. Ian O’Brien has been a recent editorial favorite; he breaks out here this season with his first major campaign for Marc by Marc Jacobs by perennial MJ lensman, Juergen Teller. Terron Wood showcases his versatility and dynamic moves for artist/director Robert Longo‘s turbulent Bottega Veneta campaign. All so different yet so marvelous. What catches your eye the most?

Drama Class

July 14th, 2010 |Posted by Betty

Fall continues its dramatic turn in the latest campaign images.Monica “Jac” Jagaciak and Frida Gustavsson are startled by something off camera; as captured by Juergen Teller for Marc Jacobs’ widely applauded F/W 10 collection. Lily Donaldson and Sasha Pivovarova perch precariously for Mario Sorrenti on a cliff in Kenzo’s incredible prints. What is Karmen Pedaru escaping in Emporio Armani? The fog? Spies? Whatever it may be, Sorrenti’s images make her look absolutely chic. Ellen von Unwerth‘s black and white images for Guess have people swooning for Silviu Tolu‘s arresting face, so evocative of 50′s matinee idols.

The Campaign Trail

July 13th, 2010 |Posted by Janelle

It isn’t even August, but we’ve already gotten a peak at the majority of fall campaigns, new ads just keep coming out of the woodwork and this week’s batch is especially eclectic. Moschino offers up a cowgirl themed ad with an over the top image of Alessandra Ambrosio shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. Celine repeats their successful formula of Juergen Teller portraits, enlisting Sigrid Agren and Emma Balfour to wear Phoebe Philo’s sleek designs. Tommy Hilfiger plays up the All American heritage of the brand with a roadtrip themed campaign shot by Craig McDean, starring Noah Mills, Iselin Steiro, Heloise Guerin, Jacquelyn Jablonski and a host of others. Last but certainly not least, JPG shows Crystal Renn, Emma Xie and Kelly Moreira looking phenomenal in pieces from his Russian themed collection.

Adam Sandler’s “You Don’t Mess with the Zohan” was loosely based on Vidal Sassoon? Wow.

Photographers, here are 13 ways to piss off a photo editor and get less work. Other excellent advice, this time from Andrew Eccles, “You can’t ever coast and you can’t ever quit.

Juergen Teller and Phoebe Philo‘s agent Katy Baggott has tragically passed away in her sleep at the young age of 39. Sadness.

Briane Hatcher. Ph: Juergen Teller for Marc by Marc Jacobs S/S 10, pic courtesy of Ford Models.

This very second, models from around the world are descending in droves upon NYC. One young man who doesn’t have far to travel is 17 year old Briane (pronounced Brian) Hatcher from Queens, New York. Casting director Michelle Lee is a fan of the music loving student booking him 2 consecutive seasons for the Marc by Marc Jacobs shows. With the appearance of his first major campaign and set to model full time this summer, it looks like it’s going to be quite a year for Mr. Hatcher.

On Your Marc

December 8th, 2009 |Posted by Janelle

Juergen Teller‘s campaigns for Marc Jacobs, have become an institution unto themselves and each season he updates the brand’s signature style with something fresh. Teller’s Spring ads present us with the image of Jamie Bochert looking ethereal in a white ruffled dress while standing on a toilet, an unusual premise but the picture only serves to make us eager to see the full campaign in all its subversive glory.

Bits and Bytes: Arthur Arrives

September 1st, 2009 |Posted by Betty

Arthur Sales/EP Models Brazil. Photos by Cristiano Madureira, courtesy of Made In Brazil.
Arriving this week is the amazing Arthur Sales from Recife, Brazil. Made in Brazil’s Juliano who has been tracking him since Arthur walked the DSquared show back in June, calls him one of the best Brazilian kids in a long time. Onset he is apparently like Caroline Trentini reincarnated as a guy. For more pics, click here. (with Elite Milan)

Dynamic duo: Marc Jacobs and Juergen Teller; Interview reviews the Marc Jacobs advertising book and for more Juergen fans, Cathyn Horyn talks to Juergen Teller.

Watch Karl Lagerfeld shoot Baptiste Giabiconi for Purple Fashion, with a giraffe and what looks like his cell phone. See some of his editorial here.

More Baptiste news, Naomi Campbell is envious of him!!

Here’s video of Jourdan Dunn and Chanel Iman from the i-D shoot. They talk about the pressures of being an ethnic model in this industry. The video is amazing, watch the girls work it, i-D’s signature winks and all, while Edward Enninful talks about the beauties.

More MTA’s (model turned actor). This time, it’s a male model, Trevor Donovan, who has shot D&G with Steven Klein and A&F with Bruce Weber and is on the next 90210.

WWD calls it the return of the “himbo” but mistakenly calls it a Numero shoot by Karl Lagerfeld, when it REALLY should be Lara Stone and the boys’ DSquared campaign by Mert and Marcus… Hmph, if they need help with boys they can certainly call us.. We know all the top males there is to know.

Supreme’s showcards reverberate down in Australia.

Mariano Vivanco shoots Megan Fox for Wonderland Magazine. She’s one of the few actresses that look like they could have been a model, especially in this moody shoot. See pics and behind the scenes video.

September’s Vogue Italia editorial by Steven Meisel has re-energized and re-invigorated me in a way that no editorial has done in a long time. The messiness, the fun, the contorted faces, the in your face energy is completely exuberant and what we need during these dour times. Vive la revolution!
For the entire ed, scanned by the lovely Diciassette, see Part 1 here and Part 2 here.

Hippie Hippie Shake

August 19th, 2009 |Posted by Janelle

Dree Hemingway goes the extra mile in the latest W. The blonde beauty joins actress, Jennifer Jason Leigh in Juergen Teller‘s ode to Woodstock. While the story isn’t exactly like the fabled festival it manages to capture the peaceful, free love atmosphere that made the era so interesting. Throw in a snake and a little grunge styling courtesy of Camilla Nickerson and you have the makings of a memorable edit.
