Putting On The Ritz

March 19th, 2012 |Posted by Kevin

American Vogue
Tim Walker
Grace Coddington
Kate Moss
Julien d’Ys Stephane Marais

Queen Kate returns to her throne at Paris’ eternal hotspot, The Ritz and she brings along a few friends with her. Walker creates a surreal vision of opulence taking full advantage of the hotel’s regal redesign and all the world’s finest couture. Kate looks majestic and her ladies in waiting, Josephine Skriver, Mirte Maas, Patricia van der Vliet, and Sigrid Agren are a dream. We know J.Lo snagged the cover of Vogue’s shape issue but with a story this good inside, we can’t help but wish Kate was on Vogue’s front page this month instead.

PreFall & Pre-Fails

January 11th, 2012 |Posted by Janelle

Two pre-fall looks we love, two pre-fall looks we don’t.
The collections dissected with commentary- every other day till the pre-season wraps.

LOVED ITDEREK LAM
This look isn’t reinventing the wheel, but Derek made the whole sage utilitarian thing look so luxe on Caroline Brasch Nielsen that we can’t help but love it. Wearable, practical and completely in line with the pre-fall aesthetic.

WTF?!BALENCIAGA
The problem with being a consumate trendsetter is that sometimes you’re just too ahead of the curve. Nicolas Ghesquiere has perfectly approximated what we’ll all be wearing post-apocalypse, right down to the multiple hats and protective gloves. We can barely see the lovely Marte Mei van Haaster beneath all this!

LOVED ITNINA RICCI
Who can argue with perfection? This dramatic Nina Ricci number looks couture worthy on Josephine Skriver.

OIC…STELLA McCARTNEY
When Stella McCartney labeled herself “too sensible” earlier in the week we failed to see the problem, however after viewing these glorified long johns we’re starting to understand where she’s coming from. There is a time and a place for thermal underwear and pre-fall is not it. Even Marique Schimmel can’t pull off Snuggie-chic.

Graffiti Bridge

November 17th, 2011 |Posted by Janelle

With all the excitement over the 20 covers, it is easy to forget that there’s plenty of beautiful images inside the Dazed & Confused‘s Anniversary issue. Magazine co-founder Rankin shoots Josephine Skriver in a series of bright looks selected by Katie Shillingford and punctuated with a touch of spray paint. Inspired by his favorite shoot for Dazed, a graffiti themed story from 1998 starring Kate Moss.

An image from the original Dazed story that inspired this edit - Kate Moss by Rankin, for Dazed & Confused, 1998

Let’s DANSK

August 2nd, 2011 |Posted by Janelle

Dansk never fails to excite us with new content and for fall the mag is already on the right track with an incredible image of Magdalena gracing the first of their covers.  Naturally, their second looks just as good: Sigrid Agren features in a gritty yet gorgeous shot by Aitken Jolly, that captures the spirt of the “something wicked this way comes” headline. Jolly’s black and white image is definitely showcasing the devious side of the typically sweet Miss Agren.

Inside you’ll find favorites like Clement Chabernaud, Julia Saner, Barbara Palvin, Patricia van der Vliet, Dree Hemingway, Josephine Skriver and James Smith along with interviews with fashion heavyweights like Gucci’s Frida Gianini, Dries Van Noten and Acne’s Jonny Johansson.
