First Look: At Large’s Fifth Issue

April 20th, 2016 |Posted by jonathan

For their fifth issue, menswear magazine At Large Magazine keeps to their promise to offer a new perspective on the world with a far-reaching exploration of all the possibilities of the new season. Actors Jack Huston and Travis Fimmel take two of the covers, while Kit Butler and Lucky Blue Smith each get their own, along with a fifth by the artist Cali Thornhill DeWitt. Butler’s cover comes from a Louis Vuitton special by Bjorn Iooss and Matthew Marden, who also capture fencer and model Race Imboden as he prepares to compete in the Rio Olympics this summer. Smith takes in the American desert shot by Randall Mesdon and styled by Julie Ragolia, and Carter Smith and Paul Sinclaire find Jesse Shannon and Ryan Keating on a rocky, windswept coast in their cinematic feature. A forty-page portfolio rounds up Los Angeles’s most exciting young artists, and Albert Watson and Paul Sinclaire offer an unconventional look at suiting, starring Francisco Lachowski, Presley Gerber, Nathaniel Visser, Ryan Frederick, and others. Philippe Vogelenzang and Julie Ragolia round up a new generation of rugby talent, and UFC fighter Alan Jouban takes a motorcycle ride for Giampaolo Sgura and Miguel Arnau.

Classic Luxury

June 6th, 2014 |Posted by jonathan

Since its launch in 2012, upscale menswear magazine Man of the World has built a reputation for classic imagery and an eye for restrained luxury. The latest issue, with rising star Garrett Hedlund on the cover (by John Balsom, styled by their fashion director Julie Ragolia (Jed Root) keeps it all in line with a gorgeous portfolio of portraits by Randall Mesdon, seen here first on models.com. The rich black-and-white photography captures a selection of some of the modeling world’s brightest faces, with up-and-comers like Clark Bockelman and John Todd alongside established names like RJ Rogenski, all dressed by Deborah Watson (Walter Schupfer Management) in the season’s coolest sportswear. The iconic images capture a pensive mood, offering up a quiet study of a handful of engaging faces with nothing to hide.

A Man of the World

January 6th, 2014 |Posted by Betty

What better way to start out 2014 than with one of the most recognizable faces in male modeling? Man of the World‘s latest cover features Mr. David Gandy grandly photographed by John Balsom in the stunning Scottish Highlands for their Explorer issue. The rugged editorial, of which we have 2 exclusive images, with styling by Julie Ragolia is enhanced with an in depth interview where David talks about his first job (hint, it wasn’t modeling), his love of cars and his charity work. Combine this with some of the other features on Sebastien Jondeau, actor Taylor Kitsch and a slew of adventurers and sportsmen and you have an issue that’s a must buy for the modern day man. To see Taylor’s cover and to order, go to Man of the World’s website.

Model Details

August 9th, 2013 |Posted by models.com

The September issues keep on coming, and the latest to join the ever-swelling ranks is Details Magazinethe men’s magazine that is making a splash by featuring a pair of supermodels on its cover rather than the usual Hollywood actor. Tyson Ballou and Emily DiDonato put a gorgeous face on the annual Fashion Issue, which is packed with a wealth of options for the cooler months. Ballou’s and Didonato’s sharp basics help liven up a clean, uncluttered cover story by John Balsom, while Shaun De Wet shows off the season’s sleekest suits on the city streets, photographed from above by Robbie Fimmano. Meanwhile, former pro soccer player John Halls (also shot by Balsom) wraps up in some comfy dress coats, perfect for an autumn evening, and Eric Ramos and Nadav Heyman demonstrate the brighter side of Fall, with strong looks in bright hues shot against a surreal Escher-scape by Lacey. It may be hot now, but Details reminds us that the chill is just around the corner—and that there’s more than a few things worth looking forwards to. Text: Jonathan Shia

Love Actually

November 29th, 2011 |Posted by Betty

How many fashion editorials do we see where there is zero to minimal chemistry between the 2 main characters? Details Magazine‘s December issue features longtime couple Ryan Burns and Aline Nakashima, cast by Edward Kim, in an unsurprisingly intimate shoot by John Balsom, wearing the latest relaxed fashion by Tommy Hilfiger, Marc by Marc Jacobs, J Crew, Burberry and more. If only we saw more of such beautiful twosomes in all the fashion mags. Who are some of your other favorite model pairings?
