Fueled Up

December 3rd, 2012 |Posted by Janelle

We’re used to seeing Daria Strokous looking beyond elegant in ads for Jil Sander and Dior, but it is always interesting to see a photographer take the refined beauty in another direction. Hugh Lippe uncovers the edge beneath Ms. Strokous’ refined exterior in a new story for FAT Magazine that showcases another side of the Russian beauty. Focusing on a look that is raw and edgy with a hint of danger, Lippe along with stylist Joanne Blades create a compelling alternative to the typical fashion edit – check out the story, exclusive outtakes and the accompanying fashion film below.

The Look of Daniele & Iango

April 6th, 2012 |Posted by Janelle

There are a lot of talented people on the scene, but it is rare to see a fresh photographer break through the glass ceiling. Let’s face it – most of the high profile work still goes to names like Testino / Lindbergh / Meisel, etc.  and while we love all those greats – charting the progress of newer talent can be riveting.  Daniele Duella and Iango Henzi are in the midst of an editorial moment right now, with beautiful work appearing in i-D Magazine, Vogue Japan, Vogue Germany and V Magazine.

The duo showcases a great deal of versatility within their work, but each image is marked by a certain off-kilter elegance. Whether it is China Machado carefully adding a Rick Owens hair comb to Shalom Harlow‘s up-do, or Natasha Poly posed like a debutante in seafoam Chanel, the pictures are always refined: every detail just so, not a hair out of place. Speaking of which, Danielle and Iango’s refined style is always enhanced by the genius hair stylings of their frequent collaborator Luigi Murenu.

Stylist: Patti Wilson | Hair: Luigi Murenu | Makeup: Stephane Marais | Models: Carolyn Murphy, Isabeli Fontana, Guinevere Van Seenus, Shalom Harlow & China Machado for i-D Magazine

Stylist: George Cortina | Hair: Luigi Murenu | Makeup: Jeanine Lobell | Model: Natasha Poly for Vogue Japan

Stylist: Joanne Blades | Hair: Luigi Murenu | Makeup: Karim Rahman | Casting: Julia Lange | Models: Eniko Mihalik, Snejana Onopka, Iris Strubegger & Karolina Kurkova for Vogue Germany

Modesty

August 10th, 2010 |Posted by Janelle

Dansk‘s vision for fall is minimal, modern and utterly sleek, their September cover by Henrik Bulow features Caroline Brasch Nielsen, looking icy in a slate grey shift by Danish label Spon Diogo. The barely there tagline of ‘modesty’ hints at an unostentatious and stripped down look, but the images inside are just as lush and vibrant as we’ve come to expect from Dansk; Charlie France‘s elegant shoot with Lowe Seger and Missy Rayder‘s sexy pics styled by Joanne Blades, being standouts.

Woman On Top!

May 11th, 2009 |Posted by Janelle

She’s baaaaaack!! After a brief hiatus Suvi Koponen has returned to doing what she does best – raising the bar in editorials. Who else is going to stand in perilous six inch heels on top of a Vuitton steamer and make it look not just graceful but easy? The latest Vogue Italia showcases Suvi twisting and turning as Richard Burbridge captures every move. Burbridge’s dynamic use of light and color within the story and Joanne Blades‘ choice styling only serve to highlight Suvi’s ability to pull off the most demanding poses.
