Woman In Uniform

August 23rd, 2010 |Posted by Janelle

Does Natasha Poly make a good drill sergeant? The waifish Russian model takes Jamie Dornan through basic training for Terry Richardson‘s racy Vogue Paris’ story where the line between commanding officer and dominatrix are all but blurred.  Emmanuelle Alt styles Natasha in a mix of mountie hats and McQueen as she puts Jamie through the wringer making him do what looks like the workout from hell. Do you like this rather campy tale of love and push-ups? Let us know!

Calvin Klein officially announced today that Calvin Klein Jeans will “feature actress Eva Mendes and model Jamie Dornan together again this season in the brand’s upcoming Spring 2010 global advertising campaign” photographed by Steven Klein. The combination of the sultry actress with the outrageously handsome Irish model has been a successful pairing for the iconic brand. As they always say… if it ain’t broke…

Plus 2

August 28th, 2009 |Posted by Betty

Joining Sasha Pivovarova and Ash Stymest, in multi cover mania are the perfect pairings of Jamie Bochert and Christian Brylle on Vogue Italia cover 2 and Anna Jagodzinska, Will Lewis and Max Rogers on cover 3. VI covers always inspire passionate diatribes from fashion followers and September’s Unexpected trio is no different. Here are some of our favorites from the Fashion Spot fans:

radolgc: So happy to see male models on the cover…it all looks like homeless people having fun with makeup and stealing couture clothes from some shop in the middle of the night and having fun with it! Love the mood, love everything about it…the fact there are multiple covers makes it much more exciting!

youarearockstar: For the record, I think Jamie looks absolutely sensational on that cover and pairing her with Christian Brylle was genius. They’re two witches-cum-chimney sweeps.

vavavinny: …This is all very Oliver Twist / demented Alice in Wonderland to me…Despite my pure and utter hatred for the whole concept, though, I must say that Anna J. steals the show. She still manages to look fierce and sexy, even with that disaster-of-a-hat on her head and the two satyr-looking things standing behind her.

wednesday’s child: No offence to anyone but i just can’t understand how people don’t like this.. it’s perfect in every way..it totally captures the zeitgeist, the casting, styling is perfect!! the dirt, the ruffianishness, to me its like a post apocalyptic vision, where consumer society has been replaced by something harder and more real, where people make do with what is around them to keep warm, but still create outfits that look beautiful with their creativity!… the staff Ash is carrying is like a traveler, a refugee, so global, so now, I can’t wait to get it! can someone explain why they don’t like it!!!!

nijuyanha: The boar in Jamie’s hand scares me (actually gives the impression she’s breastfeeding it) but overall I think that one is probably the best out of all the covers.

And there you go. What’s your take on the 3 covers?

Bits and Bytes: The Mystery Man

August 11th, 2009 |Posted by Betty

chrisduffy
The mysterious young man in the Just Cavalli ads with Kate Moss is none other than FM Agency‘s Chris Duffy. Though, used mainly here as a foil to Miss Moss’ larger than life presence, we feel this young British lad will be shining on his own in the coming months.

While our Ones2Watch section always has extraordinary new faces, today’s deserves a special mention. The Romanian Raisa and the German Daniel are most definitely ones to watch for the upcoming season.

Quick! Go to VMagazine now and view the exclusive behind the scenes video at the Maybelline 2010 limited edition Calendar shoot as well as a chance to win the calendar and a one year subscription to V Magazine. Watch Erin Wasson, Julia Stegner, Kemp Muhl, Jessica White and new faces Emily DiDonato and Anna Wang vamp for photographer Kenneth Willardt.

Mario Testino and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, nuff said.

We love models that do a little something “extra.

In other Kate Moss news… if you haven’t already heard… Storm Model Management, her London agency, joins forces with Simon Fuller of American Idol fame.

If you look like Jamie Dornan, a tall drink of water if there ever was one, and live in Europe, you too could possibly be in the next Calvin Klein ads.

Did you know former Paris Vogue editor in chief Joan Juliet Buck was a child actor? We didn’t either.. She returns to the screen with Meryl Streep in Julie and Julia.

Bruce Weber fan? Check out the Sundance website for Bruce’s films and photos.

History Lesson: Ray Petri, one of the most influential stylists EVER, inspired a whole generation.

When artists become photographers, this is what happens… weirdly beautiful Matrix-y like images...

Bits and Bytes: From rooftop to runway

June 24th, 2009 |Posted by Betty

Jean Carlos at DSquared2, S/S10. Image from Made in Brazil. With MC2 Model Management.

Seems like a mere 15 minutes ago, Jean Carlos was shooting his first tests in New York on a rooftop. This week, the Brazilian so popular with the fashion bloggers walked some of the big runways in Milan, including DSquared2, CP Company, Etro and Giorgio Armani.

—————————————

If you adore Heidi Klum, Alessandra Ambrosio, Marisa Miller, Adriana Lima, Selita Ebanks, Miranda Kerr, Behati Prinsloo and Doutzen Kroes, then go to Victoria’s Secret’s Facebook page.

Surprise! Jamie Dornan, in 3 of the season’s Calvin Klein campaigns, says he’s never done a runway show.

The Milan men’s shows had some breathing room, thanks to the recession.

Frockwriter talks about the “Hedi Sliminization” of fashion and here’s the Guy Trebay NY Times article on AJ Abualrub dropping 30 pounds for the shows. Much has been made of him saying he eats twice a day; not that we are condoning that but all we can say is when we were in our teens, we had totally bad habits like eating twice a day too.

Watch Jil Sander, Gucci and Roberto Cavalli all here and Burberry, Zegna and Dolce & Gabbana here.

Helmut Newton‘s Sumo re-released!

For his S/S 10 show, Alexander McQueen does a film instead with David Sims.

Here’s another hilarious look by Jezebel at male models in vintage catalogs. All we can say is the male model and what they wear sure has changed!

Sans Artifice likes the Jil Sander collection and we do too!

Fall for Calvin

June 17th, 2009 |Posted by Betty

Because we know that you, like us, are endlessly fascinated with any mention of the Calvin Klein brand, here’s a breakdown of their different lines for Fall Winter 09 by WWD. MDC top newcomer Jac is the fantastic new face of Calvin Klein Collection by David Sims. (Click here for a sneak peek at that momentous first meeting of Jac and creative director Fabien Baron). Longtime Calvin Klein favorite Jamie Dornan (currently in their Calvin Klein Free Fragrance campaign) joins Eva Mendes in sensual black and white images for Calvin Klein Underwear photographed by Steven Klein. Eva also appears in Calvin Klein Jeans by Steven Klein. What we can’t wait for is Jourdan Dunn and Sigrid Agren‘s campaign for cK Calvin Klein by Craig McDean to appear shortly. Edita Vilkeviciute, along with Jamie Dornan again, Model Linkfronts Calvin Klein White Label photographed also by McDean. Fabien Baron, who is the creative director behind Collection, Underwear, Jeans and ck Calvin Klein, is back this week as the editorial director for Interview. Also a photographer, Mr. Baron may be the Stateside version of Karl Lagerfeld: multi tasker extraordinaire. The only big campaign left is men’s Collection, which, if it’s like AJ Abualrub‘s, will be most definitely a star maker.

In these times of recession, agencies are doing what they need to stay ahead of the game. With MC2 Model Management presenting their only male model, Brazilian Jean Carlos, does this mean we can expect more women’s agencies to be multi tasking? We’ll just have to wait and see…

The Boys Are Back…

January 26th, 2009 |Posted by Janelle

The resurgence of the supermodel isn’t just for the ladies, now more than ever companies are going back to their tried and true favorite male models. Familiar faces like Jamie Dornan, Oriol Elcacho and Steve Gold are snagging major campaign space, appearing in ads for the likes of Armani, Iceberg and Bally. While new faces dominate the catwalks of Milan and Paris the good old boys are front and center in campaigns. When the stakes are as high as they are now the industry relies on proven talents to push product – nothing beats a face you can trust.
