Fearless and Fashionable

March 6th, 2015 |Posted by steven.yatsko

Supermodel Jacquetta Wheeler plays a bold and stylish journalist for the latest Vogue Portugal. The cinematic cover story shot by Frederico Martins imagines the English model equipped with a camera documenting the front lines. For the period-portrayal Ana Campos outfits the heroine in the latest Givenchy, Salvatore Feragamo, Marc Jacobs, Prada and Gucci–all aptly in shades of army green. Accompanied by stone-faced infantrymen, Jacquetta’s willowy hair and sharp timeless features romance the images (Lagerfeld once described her face as a Roman vase). On the pages her poses capture the air of a woman who is determined, fearless and fashionable– even in the dismalness of wartime. Now 33, Jacquetta is no novice when it comes to Vogue or the modeling industry. Discovered in 1998 at the age of seventeen by Mario Testino, she quickly found herself in French Vogue and in 1999 was on the cover of The Face naming her “Model of the Millennium.” From there she became the repeated face of Gucci, then Givenchy, landed the cover of Vogue Italia and a cover for British Vogue. With the word “Feminismo” printed across the cover in bold font the veteran shows she can easily exemplify the strong and beautiful woman now more than ever.

First Look : BON

August 22nd, 2013 |Posted by Janelle

Bon Magazine returns for fall with a full slate of fashion showcased via sleek editorial content. Though the issue is focused on the subject of excess, things never veer off-course into unadulterated consumerism, instead we’re given a chic series of stories that provide just the right amount of decadence. The stunning Jacquetta Wheeler returns on dual covers in head to toe Balmain, but the extravagant fashion is balanced by natural setting and stripped down photography style. Inside beautiful new stories starring Kel MarkeyMyla DalbesioMagda Laguinge, Grace MaharyTatiana Cotliar and Maud Welzen run the gamut from avant garde explorations of the season’s minimal wares to striking black and white images shot on the streets of New York.

Bits & Bytes: Tao for Japan

April 7th, 2011 |Posted by Betty

Another earthquake rocks Japan today, with a tsunami warning following right away. Tao Okamoto and John-Paul Pietrus get together for a special project to raise money for those devastated by the disaster. Check out his site today.

Seeing Karl Lagerfeld as a young man is really kind of awesome.

The supercool stylist Kate Young is interviewed by Fashionista.

One of my all time favorite icons Annie Lennox is the mom of Tali Lennox, an up and coming model who has a great interviw by Natalie Joos on her blog.

Also, if you missed it, the divine An Oost is now a happy and still gorgeous mom in Belgium, also on Natalie’s blog.

This man shows us how to get into Vogue.

Eva Herzigova‘s billboard was voted the most iconic advertisement of all time.

Speaking of gorgeously sexy blondes, here is Ponyryder’s interview with current Guess girl, Heide Lindgren.

See vintage, unseen Kate Moss images styled by MDC’s very own Wayne Sterling.

The one and only David Gandy writes about a typical day. I guess typical if you’re a male supermodel!

RIP: Eric Zeitner, former Versace model, killed in a tragic hit & run.

Visual Branding

August 13th, 2010 |Posted by Janelle

Nothing conveys the identity of a brand quite like its advertising and more and more mainstream fashion brands are attempting to tweak their image via campaigns that utilize fashion’s biggest powerplayers. Case in point, the F/W campaign for conservative brand, Talbots features the edgy pairing of Linda Evangelista and Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. Meanwhile Jones New York enlists Annie Leibovitz and a slew of top names like Hilary Rhoda, Jessica Stam, Hana Soukupova, Jacquetta Wheeler, Du Juan, Yasmin WarsameAminata Niaria and Ujjwala Raut for their ads. Not to be left in the dust, mall staple Esprit enlists Coco Rocha for its collection ads and Anne Vyalitsyna, Du Juan and Missy Rayder by Mariano Vivanco for the mainline.

The addition of a familiar (and fashionable) face can add a layer of cool to a brand’s image, but does the trick work? Did any of these ads enhance your opinion of the labels in question? Tell us.

Into The Groove

August 5th, 2009 |Posted by Janelle

In the years since Tom Ford’s departure Gucci may have turned down the heat but they’ve amped up the rock n’ roll cool of their campaign imagery. This season’s Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin extravaganza focuses on the kind of club scene every one wants to be a part of. Cool kids like Christian Brylle, Freja Beha Erichsen, Myf Shepherd, Dree Hemingway, Anja Rubik, Natasha Poly and Abbey Lee Kershaw rock it out on the dancefloor while high fashion MVPs Jacquetta Wheeler, Raquel Zimmermann and Jamie Bochert play it cool. Just what song do you think is playing in the background of all this madness?
