Desert Song

March 24th, 2014 |Posted by Janelle

Boo George.
Beat Bolliger (Art Partner).
Isabeli Fontana.
Vogue China.

In the midst of the dessert a vision of glamour emerges. Isabeli lends her showgirl panache to George’s atmospheric images as Bolliger works in an array of eye-catching pieces from the likes of Louis Vuitton, Dolce & Gabbana and Agent Provocateur. Sequins, marabou feathers and other exquisite details abound but when these luxurious trappings are paired with the faded, dreamlike style of the photographs it creates a haunting mood.

Ad Network

January 16th, 2013 |Posted by Janelle

More fabulous fashion ads keep coming in, take a look at the latest.

TOM FORD

Tom Ford - Designer & Photographer | Orlando Pita - Hair Stylist | Charlotte Tilbury - Makeup Artist |Karlina Caune & Simon Van Meervenne - Models

We can always count on Tom Ford for an epitomized version of modern glamour and his latest campaign delivers with sleek shots by Ford himself of Karlina Caune and Simon Van Meervenne. Playing to his strengths the designer / photographer / director / provocateur creates simple images that focus on those decadent designs. Who needs exotic locations and complicated set ups when you have the beauty of those golden to the knee sandals and fringed shoes! Karlina and Simon look pretty damn good too, both models capture the slightly dangerous and oh so sexy vibe of Ford’s ethos.

ALEXANDER WANG

Alexander Wang
 - Designer | Steven Klein - Photographer | Pascal Dangin - Art Director | Malgosia Bela - Model

Given the memorable way Wang presented his S/S collection’s glow in the dark dresses, we were expecting a campaign with flashing lights, or blinding neons from Alexander Wang. Never one to go for the obvious thrill, Wang enlists Steven Klein and Pascal Dangin for an evocative campaign featuring the Malgosia Bela. The beauty of these images lies in the artistic way in which the clothing is presented: with her body painted in white and the stark backdrop, Malgosia looks more like a performance artist than a model. As the Wang label enters into its next stage of development this campaign provides a dynamic and eye-catching brand message.

KENZO

Jean Paul Goude - Photographer | Anthony Turner - Hair Stylist | Aaron de Mey - Makeup Artist | Humberto Leon & Carol Lim - Creative Directors | Jester White & Ming Xi - Models

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Kenzo’s F/W ads by Jean Paul Goude were arresting and upbeat – they even made our best of 2012 list and for S/S the saga continues with Ming Xi and Jester White picking up where things left off. We didn’t think it would be possible, but these ads are even more colorful and kooky than the first set.

AKRIS

Karim Sadli - Photographer | Anthony Turner - Hair Stylist | Hannah Murray - Makeup Artist | Alana Zimmer - Model

Karim Sadli shoots Akris’ understated S/S ads featuring Alana Zimmer. Akris has always been about luxury that whispers instead of shouts and Saldi does an excellent job of communicating that message visually. Albert Kriemler’s elegantly minimal designs look especially beautiful set against the lush green backdrop and Alana is as lovely as ever.

ROBERTO CAVALLI

Roberto Cavalli - Designer | Mario Testino  – Photographer | Marie Chaix - Fashion Editor/Stylist | Sam McKnight - Hair Stylist | Charlotte Tilbury - Makeup Artist | Jack Flanagan - Set Designer | Lorraine Griffin - Manicurist

Roberto Cavalli’s clothes are not for wallflowers, so it makes sense that the S/S campaign features three of the boldest and mostt compelling models around. Isabeli Fontana, Malgosia Bela and Sui He star in Mario Testino‘s kinetic images filled with bold prints, saturated colors and the brand’s signature in your face opulence.

mdc ♥s: beach ready beauty

July 27th, 2012 |Posted by Janelle

Isabeli Fontana is the ultimate summer beauty in this shot by Mikael Jansson - view the full series in the database.

Summer heat will not get us down! Even with the temperatures hitting astronomical heights we still want to look fresh. Before you leave town on your glam summer break take a glimpse at our selection of heatproof & beach-ready beauty goodies that will have you looking and feeling like a supermodel.

ESTEE LAUDER SUMPTUOUS TWO TONE MASCARA - If its good enough for Tom Pecheux it is good enough for us! We were front and center when the man himself previewed Estee’s latest mascara backstage at Derek Lam and now the impressive dual color formula is available everywhere. Black mascara on the top lashes and then a subtle hint of color on lower lashes to make eyes pop.

LA ROCHE POSAY ANTHELIOS  – Heavy duty protection with a gentle side – French brand La Roche Posay has got the market cornered on sun protection and their Anthelios line is a perennial favorite. We’ve mentioned Anthelios in this column before and we’re mentioning it again because quite frankly, it just works – absolute must have for the season.

BY KILIAN SOLID FRAGRANCE - Who wants to be digging around in their beach bag for a perfume or lugging around a heavy bottle? By Kilian gives you the sleekest, chicest little solid that is perfect for reapplying just a touch of fragrance. Besides, there is something decadent about wearing one of those heady Kilian scents in the middle of a heatwave – trust us on that.

SACHAJUAN OCEAN MIST - One spritz and you’ve got the kind of wavy, undone beach hair that would make Gisele jealous. Ok, maybe not jealous…but there is a reason this bright blue wonder is constantly sold out !

COR SILVER SOAP - A true beauty multi-tasker, COR’s Silver soap offers the benefits of a sunscreen, a pore minimizer, acne treatment and a makeup remover all in one. When you’re en route to your summer destination -jet-setter that you are – you want a product that does it all. COR boasts a slew of active ingredients like silver, sericin, collagen and chitosan and (perhaps more importantly) a relaxing scent and luxurious lather.

SISLEY HYDRATING LONG LASTING LIPSTICK - What to do when temperatures are climbing past 100 and you’ve got to look nice for an evening out? Swipe on a glam bright shade from Sisley and you’re good to go!

AESOP SAGE & ZINC FACIAL HYDRATING CREAM - A natural take on sun protection Aesop that is perfect for girls (and guys) on the go – slather it on before your morning commute for UV protection.

NEST FRAGRANCES MOSS & MINT SHOWER GEL - Our fave niche candle line branches out with a line of sweetly scented shower gels – all of which are wonderful, but Moss & Mint holds a special place in our hearts this summer. The bracing blend of mint, apple blossom and oakmoss provides the perfect R&R for the overheated, parched and just plain burned out.

MAKEUP FOREVER AQUA SHADOW - We are strong advocates of makeup pencils – they’re versatile, easy to use and make life simpler. Makeup Forever’s waterproof shadows make getting ready a breeze and they last through heat, cold and the occasional tearjerker movie. The metallic shades are guaranteed to grab your attention, but don’t ignore the bold mattes!

REVLON JUST BITTEN LIP STAINS - perfect for the no makeup look and guaranteed to withstand eating, drinking & hours of relaxing on the beach.

GUERLAIN TERRACOTTA SUN IN THE CITY POWDER - A luminous alternative to the traditional bronzer and the perfect way to highlight sunkissed skin. Guerlain is the final word when it comes to bronzer and the latest addition to their collection is every bit as impressive as one would imagine – added bonus the shimmering gold works with every skintone.

CLARINS EYE QUARTET MINERAL EYESHADOWS – The final bit of polish, a quad capable of creating a multitude of looks. The Clarins shadows are highly underrated and the selection of nudes is creamy and gorgeous.

The Look of Daniele & Iango

April 6th, 2012 |Posted by Janelle

There are a lot of talented people on the scene, but it is rare to see a fresh photographer break through the glass ceiling. Let’s face it – most of the high profile work still goes to names like Testino / Lindbergh / Meisel, etc.  and while we love all those greats – charting the progress of newer talent can be riveting.  Daniele Duella and Iango Henzi are in the midst of an editorial moment right now, with beautiful work appearing in i-D Magazine, Vogue Japan, Vogue Germany and V Magazine.

The duo showcases a great deal of versatility within their work, but each image is marked by a certain off-kilter elegance. Whether it is China Machado carefully adding a Rick Owens hair comb to Shalom Harlow‘s up-do, or Natasha Poly posed like a debutante in seafoam Chanel, the pictures are always refined: every detail just so, not a hair out of place. Speaking of which, Danielle and Iango’s refined style is always enhanced by the genius hair stylings of their frequent collaborator Luigi Murenu.

Stylist: Patti Wilson | Hair: Luigi Murenu | Makeup: Stephane Marais | Models: Carolyn Murphy, Isabeli Fontana, Guinevere Van Seenus, Shalom Harlow & China Machado for i-D Magazine

Stylist: George Cortina | Hair: Luigi Murenu | Makeup: Jeanine Lobell | Model: Natasha Poly for Vogue Japan

Stylist: Joanne Blades | Hair: Luigi Murenu | Makeup: Karim Rahman | Casting: Julia Lange | Models: Eniko Mihalik, Snejana Onopka, Iris Strubegger & Karolina Kurkova for Vogue Germany

Pure Class

September 6th, 2011 |Posted by Janelle

Sometimes an editorial doesn’t need bells and whistles to make an impact. Case in point: Vincent Peters‘ simply beautiful story for Vogue Italia featuring Isabeli Fontana. There is nothing edgy about the story, but the combination of Peters’ cinematic lighting, Valentina Serra‘s exquisite selection of clothing and Isabeli’s beauty makes for memorable images. The vintage vibe of the entire series is an interesting contrast to some of the other stories in the issue - most notably, Meisel’s avant-garde cover shoot with Stella Tennant.

mdc ♥s : summer scents

August 8th, 2011 |Posted by Janelle

Edita Vilkeviciute is our official muse for summer

The hotter it gets, the harder it is to wear those heavy, heady perfumes we all know and love. August’s heat presents the perfect opportunity to lighten up with a fresh scent – MDC picks a few of our favorites for the season and invites you to share your own in the comments.

Serge Lutens L’Eau – the master of opulent perfumery, creates the ultimate clean scent. A touch of mint, a hint of citrus and just the right amount of magnolia, combine to create a light fragrance that calls to mind everything pure: from the finest in handmade soaps, to a crisp laundered shirt.

Heeley Menthe Fraiche – It is hard to think about mint without getting images of toothpaste, chewing gum or peppermint patties, but Heeley classes up the refreshing classic with lotus leaves, cedar and green tea. The end result is beautiful and just right for balmy August days.

Creed Virgin Island Water – Who wouldn’t want to be curled up beach side in the Virgin Islands with a margarita right now? Creed’s effervescent cocktail of a fragrance, channels all those desires into a coconut and lime infused mixture that sparkles on the skin. Apparently were not the only one’s who like it – New York Times gave it a glowing review too.

Frederic Malle Bigarade Concentrè : Were addicted to all things Malle and this sharp, bracing and oh so cool unique blend of bitter orange and spices is a must have for men and women alike. Be sure to try out the coordinating body wash for an added blast of freshness.

Le Labo Santal 33 – Each Le Labo perfume is a handmade treasure, crafted for you right on the spot in the store. Santal 33 is one of the stronger options for summer, with cardamom, iris, violet and ambrox combined to create an aroma that is captivating, without being overpowering.

Estee Lauder Sensuous Nude – The image of Isabeli Fontana as a bronzed goddess in the campaign should be enough to convince to try Sensuous Nude, but in case you need more persuasion just take a look at the notes. Sandalwood, vanilla, amber and heliotrope make for a fragrance that wears like a second skin. Warm, elegant and enveloping – we couldn’t get enough.

Amouage Dia – Oman based niche line Amouage offers a variety of off the beaten path scents created with care, but our favorite for summer is Dia. With two versions (one for men and another for women), the scent offers the best of both worlds with the freshness of vetiver and the spiciness of frankincense forming a one of a kind concoction.

DS & Durga The Orchid Drinkers – Brooklyn based indie perfume line, DS & Durga’s scent is inspired by history, specifically the popular 18th century drink Salep which was made from orchid root. The Orchid drinkers takes the idea and runs with it, mixing orchid, sandalwood, bergamot and white tea to create something truly delicious.

Prada Infusion d’Iris – Prada’s blend of Iris Padilla and mandarin is as inventive and eccentric as any of Miuccia’s design creations. As the most refined of the offerings, Infusion d’Iris makes for an appealing choice for anyone in search of something ethereal yet traditional.
