First Lady

October 29th, 2013 |Posted by Janelle

The most surprising thing about W Magazine‘s FLOTUS inspired fashion story starring Naomi Campbell is that it took so long to appear. MIchelle Obama has been global tastemaker for years so it seems only natural that one of the industry’s leading publications would find editorial inspiration in her signature style. Willy Vanderperre‘s photographs always have a quiet beauty and his style works well here, while Edward Enninful perfectly captures Mrs. Obama’s streamlined sophistication with his styling. Using a mix of demure pieces from Nina RicciGiorgio ArmaniPrada and Dior, Enninful creates a wardrobe fit for a first lady. As always Naomi is a pro in front of the camera and radiates poise in every shot.

First Look : Blown Away

July 9th, 2013 |Posted by Janelle

Anyone who paid close attention to the collections can tell you about the season’s biggest trend – volume, but few can bring it to life the way V Magazine can. Sølve Sundsbø and Beat Bolliger take the larger than life proportions glimpsed on the runway and capture them in all their expansive glory on the back of Suvi Koponen. Luxe pieces from Giorgio ArmaniPradaDior and Chanel are showcased in glorious fashion and the explosive hair by Didier Malige works perfectly with the voluminous theme.

Campaign Confidential

January 3rd, 2013 |Posted by Janelle

Luxury powerhouses have unleashed their S/S campaigns with great fanfare, but which brand’s spring outlook are you liking best? Take a look at some of the best brand new campaigns on the scene and let us know your faves in the comments.

MULBERRY

Emma Hill (Designer) | Tim Walker (Photographer) | Ronnie Cooke Newhouse and Stephen Wolstenholme at House and Holme (Art Direction) | Shona Heath (Set Design) | Jane How (Stylist) | Sam McKnight (Hair) | Val Garland (Makeup) | Meghan Collison (Model)

Tim Walker‘s dreamy imagery has come to define the Mulberry campaign look for a few seasons now and the brand’s latest starring Meghan Collison, takes the party underwater setting Meghan against a undersea backdrop of soft pastels and coral that perfectly coordinates with the line’s feminine S/S collection.

VERSACE

Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott

Giovanni Bianco (Art Director) | Daria WerbowyEdward WildingJoan SmallsKacey CarrigKate Moss &Veit Couturier  (Models)

More is always more in the world of Versace and for S/S they pull out all the stops with a stylized campaign filled with supermodels, bold color and enough drama to fill an entire operetta. Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott create a blue tinted world of beauty, sensuality and references to mythology.

GIORGIO ARMANI

Giorgio Armani (Designer)| Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott (Photographers) Models: Saskia de Brauw & Roch Barbot

Sophistication is key in the world of Armani and Saskia de Brauw serves as the perfect incarnation of the Armani woman in the brand new S/S ads. Poised, refined and of course clad in crisp suiting straight of the runway, de Brauw shines in Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott‘s seamless images.

GIVENCHY

Riccardo Tisci (Designer) | Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott (Photographer) |Carine Roitfeld (Fashion Editor/Stylist) | Mathias Augustyniak & Michael Amzalag (Art Director) Models: Francisco PeraltaKate MossMariacarla Boscono

Givenchy usually goes for high concept campaign shots, but this season the line tones it down with striking black and white portraits. The new campaign even features the ultimate scene stealer, Mariacarla Boscono‘s daughter, Marialucas.

PRADA

Miuccia Prada
(Designer) | Steven Meisel (Photographer) | Olivier Rizzo (Fashion Editor/Stylist) | Guido Palau (Hair Stylist) | Pat McGrath (Makeup Artist) | Ashley Brokaw (Casting Director) Models: Eva HerzigovaIrene HiemstraIrina KravchenkoKirsten OwenMaartje VerhoefSasha PivovarovaSaskia de BrauwSung Hee KimVanessa Axente

Miuccia’s eclectic collection finds its way onto the backs of a multi-generational cast featuring a series of notable models from the past 20 years. The striking Steven Meisel helmed campaign celebrates the uniqueness of the Spring collection and its undeniable visual impact; when you have great clothes and great models what more do you need.

Collective Soul

Daniel Jackson celebrates the looks of the season in British Vogues collections special. Shooting the signature pieces from the spring/summer collections as selected by Francesca Burns. Every piece you’d expect to see is there, from the salmon tinted Calvin Klein spaghetti strap shift, to McQueen’s extravagantly detailed chiffon numbers. Added bonus – each ensemble is paired with a girl who elevates the look, from Maria Bradley’s innate edge adding an ounce of cool to Armani’s classic suit, to Elise Crombez showing you exactly how YSL ought to be worn.

Spring Awakening

January 5th, 2012 |Posted by models.com

Spring/Summer 2012 has proved to be a great run for a string of first timers for their respective houses; many of them also choosing new faces to front their campaigns for the season. How do you think these guys have fared?

Greg Nawrat for Gucci by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott | Alex Cunha for Bottega Veneta by Jack Pierson

While usually having a bevy of models in their ads, Gucci went solo this season with new and fresh faced Greg Nawrat. It also seems that Bottega Veneta had the same idea and tapped spring show opener Alex Cunha to star in their campaign, shot by contemporary artist Jack Pierson.

Simon Nessman for Giorgio Armani by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott | Ryan Barrett for Versace by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott

Running champs of the campaign season again, Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott explored two different sides with Giorgio Armani and Versace. Simon Nessman solidifies his place on our list in a sleek and simple setting while relatively unknown British face Ryan Barrett snags an only guy campaign beside the illustrious Gisele.

Baptiste Radufe for Yves Saint Laurent by David Sims | Florian Van Bael for Emporio Armani by Alasdair McLellan

Coincidence that a pair of black and white ads feature new Belgians? One of our Top Newcomers this past season, Baptiste Radufe shows us there’s a new Baptiste in town starring in Yves Saint Laurent‘s sleek spring looks. Another one of our Top Newcomers, Florian Van Bael is set on the streets of Hong Kong shot by Alasdair McLellan for Emporio Armani‘s latest campaign.

Noah Mills for Salvatore Ferragamo by Mikael Jansson | Simone Nobili & Chris Moore for Givenchy by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott

Classic good looks seem to be the key to success, and Noah Mills is proof that it’s true. Shot on location in Jamaica by Mikael Jansson, Noah continues the tradition of the luxurious lifestyle of the brand. On the opposite side of Salvatore Ferragamo, new faces Simone Nobili and Chris Moore hold their own in Givenchy‘s dark and moody spring ads by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.

A Lofty Perch

November 28th, 2011 |Posted by Janelle

It takes an experienced beauty to maintain her composure while posing on the edge of a rock formation, but Carmen Kass manages to make even the most precarious poses look easy. In Cedric Buchet striking Vogue Japan story Kass is aloofly cool in designs from Loewe and Giorgio Armani chosen by stylist Sophia Neophitou. Playing with oversized proportions and dramatic shapes, Neophitou makes even the most sacklike outfits come alive with a little help from Carmen.

Fit To Be Tied

July 25th, 2011 |Posted by Janelle

Is it just us or has fashion felt a little tamer in the wake of Carine Roitfeld‘s departure from Vogue Paris? In case you had forgotten what an audaciously sexy fashion editorial looked like Numero sets out to remind you with a bondage-y romp shot by Tom Munro and featuring the undeniably appealing Aymeline Valade.

Stealing a title and theme from Almodovar, while borrowing a bit of Helmut Newton-esque panache for good measure, the story is sultry, steamy and filled with the finest lace garters money can buy. Stylist Charles Varenne knows exactly how to titillate with pieces from Givenchy and Giorgio Armani.

The Sun God

April 22nd, 2010 |Posted by contributor

The sun is back and it’s that time of the year when our favorite magazines are pushing eyewear. These accessories are as essential as the clothes themselves with more and more campaigns dedicated especially to them. Here’s a peek at Nimue Smit for Giorgio Armani, Constance Jablonski for cK Calvin Klein, Freja Beha Erichsen for Chanel, Anna Jagodzinska for David Yurman, and of course Madonna in her eyewear capsule collection for D&G. My personal favorite for S/S10? The Tom Ford Nikita in tortoise shell shown on Jacquelyn Jablonski, by William Selden for Another Magazine S/S10. What’s your must have eyewear accessory of the season? (Story by Kristen Bolt)
