Blockbuster Beauties

May 25th, 2012 |Posted by Janelle

Actresses keep showing up in campaigns so it is about time that catwalkers took over the silver screen. Some of summer’s biggest films feature appearances by familiar fashion favorites – Erin Wasson, Brooklyn Decker, Lily Cole & Liberty Ross all show up in this summer’s mega-movies, but which will you actually watch? Click to vote on Facebook.

ERIN WASSON - Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter

The vampy Ms. Wasson plays what else, a vampire seductress in Timur Bekmambetov’s adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith’s novel. Judging from the red band trailer this is going to be an over the top gore-fest filled with special effects and historical inaccuracies. As a fashionable renaissance woman, Erin has done everything from styling to designing jewelry over the years, but this is her first real acting gig. Unless you count her cameo in Sofia Coppola’s film, Somewhere.

BROOKLYN DECKER – Battleship & What to Expect When You’re Expecting

Over the past year Brooklyn has successfully transformed herself from America’s favorite blonde modeling bombshell, into a promising actress. She shows up in two films this summer – Board game explosion-fest, Battleship and pregnancy ensemble comedy, What to Expect. Considering that we’ve already made our Channing Tatum based film selection for the year (Magic Mike, TYVM) we choose to watch Brooklyn’s talents in the latter movie.

LIBERTY ROSS & LILY COLE – Snow White & The Huntsman

Sure it is Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron‘s show, but the beautiful Liberty Ross and Lily Cole play pivotal roles in the upcoming, epic re-imagining of the fairy tale. Liberty plays the mother of the titular character, while Lily gets her soul extracted by the demonic-queen. Of all the non-Avengers popcorn flicks out this year this is probably the one we’re most excited for. Bonus bit of trivia – did you know the film was directed by Liberty’s hubby, the talented Rupert Sanders. Take a look at her behind the scenes diary of the process leading up to the films & behind the scenes of the premiere.

The Look of Hans Feurer

May 24th, 2012 |Posted by Janelle

As fashion’s foremost purveyor of nomad chic, Hans Feurer‘s images are unmistakable. Though his body of work is diverse, the pictures that stand out most tend to feature a series of Feurer signatures; layered undone styling, exotic locations and bold tribal makeup. Look at his latest stories for Vogue Paris and Vogue Japan respectively and you’ll see all the trademarks of his aesthetic. VP’s Karmen Pedaru story goes for a harder edge, while his images of Constance Jablonski are all about highlighting her refined beauty, but both stories hinge on variations of the same idea. Take a glimpse back at Feurer’s work over the years and see how he developed the style he’s now known for.

2012 – Karmen Pedaru for Vogue Paris

2012 – Constance Jablonski for Vogue Japan

2011 – Jourdan Dunn for Vogue Paris

2011 – Natasha Poly for Vogue Paris

2008 – Erin Heatherton for Muse Magazine

2008 – Scott Barnhill

2007 Jessica Miller for Self Service no. 27

2001 – Erin Wasson for Vogue Paris

1991 – Beverly Peele for Elle France

Bits & Bytes: Model Obsession

February 2nd, 2011 |Posted by Betty

Bambi Northwood Blyth by Annie Wilshaw.

We (as well as almost every fashion person we know) are obsessed about models, Polaroids and Polaroids of models. In a special piece for TheOnes2Watch, Annie from Premier Model Management talks about how she started and hands over her trove of beauties to the O2W. Take a peek on O2W and choose your favorite.

Bits & Bytes Special Model Edition:

There may be no other male model search as successful as the VMan/Ford collaboration (take a look at what the past winners have been doing). Their new search has begun and the winner gets a shoot with the incredible Steven Klein, styled by Nicola Formichetti. We just might be a tad jealous. (Search ends March 1st)

Perry Ellis‘s February show needs one more hot male model and wants YOU the audience to choose him. Check out Andre Douglas, Seth Kuhlman and more of the hot 9.

Model agencies, want to see how to do Twitter the right way? Read Damien from Ford’s interview to figure out your Twitter gameplan.

Givenchy face and former MOTW Jonathan Marquez talks to Ponyryder.

Missed out on our Top Money Guys’ listing? Go ahead, and FB Like it… you know you love handsome men like Noah Mills and David Gandy.

The awesome Coco Rocha writes the forward to Jeanne Beker’s new book on the modeling industry (which is titled Strutting It! The grit behind the glamour). Is there anything this girl doesn’t do? Oh and if you missed her details about her efforts with Haiti with Behati, go here.

We really don’t have much to say about America’s Next Model but when Erin WassonAlek WekFranca SozzaniLori GoldsteinFrancesco Carrozzini and IMG’s Ivan Bart are all mentioned in one sentence, we might have to give ANTM a second glance.

Marilyn Gauthier Paris has a brand new blog and it’s sexy, strong and fashionable (just like Ms. Gauthier herself).

Minimalist Mood

January 27th, 2011 |Posted by Janelle

Some of Spring’s most compelling campaigns take a less is more approach, with a focus on the combination of great models and impeccably constructed clothes. When you’ve got Jana Kaye, Melissa Tammerijn, Julia Nobis or Erin Wasson striking regal poses in deceptively simple dresses, you really don’t need much more. The Jil Sander ads takes the trend one step further, all but erasing Daria Strokous‘ beautiful face in some of the spring shots. Willy Vanderperre is certainly on a roll this season!

Jana Knauerova by Glen Luchford for Costume National

Erin Wasson by Willy Vanderperre for Elie Saab

Image Conscious

May 18th, 2010 |Posted by Janelle

W gives us an early taste of fall with Craig McDean‘s chic portfolio of the season’s must have looks. Using a cast of IMG beauties and a simple peach backdrop, McDean highlights just about every piece we loved from the F/W collections. Once again Alex White‘s styling looks phenomenal and each girl wears an ensemble that speaks to her personality; could anyone look better in that stunning Haakan dress than Karolina, who better to show off Rodarte’s ethereal spirt than Liya? See the full portfolio and the models and designer’s take on each look at W Magazine.com

The girl with the most NY shows (31) is especially clean and pristine on the cover of the new Deutsch.

Hey, any chance to post pictures of modeling legend, Kristen McNemany, I will take it. This photo is the exact reason why Calvin Klein will always be relevant. The embrace of the legendary (Kristen) with a modern day beauty (Doutzen) shows how the brand will always keep you guessing.

——————————————————————————————————————

A BIG bits & Bytes: some news is old, some is new, catching people up from fashion week!

Modeling info:

Our incredible Wayne Sterling expounds on the meaning of walking the runways of today.

Craig Arend sits down with Storm’s Sarah Doukas who discovered a young 14 year old lass named Kate Moss.

Looking for the new Black “IT” girl are Elite Models and Essence Magazine.

Missy Rayder, naked and beautiful for V Magazine’s video.

Benetton‘s next campaign face.. it could be you!

Coco Rocha, we adore you! Here she talks, uncensored about the NY Times/Daily News “stories” on her being considered “fat”.

Speaking of Coco, Hilary Rhoda interviews Coco, on Fashion Week Daily.

Ponyryder had 3 stellar interviews with the wonderful Amanda Norgaard, Love magazine cover star Jeneil Williams and Prada opener and closer, Samantha Gradoville.

Arlenis Sosa for Latina Magazine at a party sponsored by Lancome (see pic below). Kind of a big deal as past covergirls have been Jennifer Lopez and Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayer. Arlenis talks about how black models need to stick together.

Male models should tremble. Zoolander 2 is in the works.

Another evil and unkind moment in the fashion industry. Frockwriter dissects the mess about Gemma Ward.

Photography:

How do you get started in fashion photography? Tips from the experts are right here.

For female photographers only, here is eye opening advice from A Photo Editor.

Fashionista talks to a Getty photographer.

Style.com shows that Trovata designer John Whitledge, takes a pretty mean picture as well… See his Fashion Week diary with Erin Wasson and Kirsten Dunst.

Fashion and miscellaneous:

LVMH-owned E Luxury is gone, only to be replaced by the Nowness. With that kind of backing, that website should be quite interesting.

One of our favorite casting directors, Daniel Peddle, was featured on the NY Times’ the Moment during Fashion Week (if you missed it!)

Also: if you missed from fashion week…. Incredible insights on Style.com from Cathy Horyn and Robert Duffy from Marc Jacobs on the state of the fashion industry.

Style.com‘s interview with Hedi Slimane. Does he go back to designing? Find out….

Vogue Italia, Vogue Black and Vogue Curvy. Yes, we wish they were one, but hey, at least the dialogue is starting. (The Cut via Jezebel).

Speaking of Vogue, Jezebel talks about how those cover lines are made up (edited out from the September issue). It’s pretty darn funny.

Fashion Week Daily has a deleted scene from the September Issue where Karl Lagerfeld separates us from them (my words not his). Another hilarous moment from Karl.
