Gaga for Givenchy

Givenchy S/S 2010

Givenchy has become the Paris show to watch when it comes to eclectic casting. With its mix of re-discovered favorites, fresh faces and house staples there was truly something for everyone. Whether you’re a 90s model fan enjoying the welcome shock of seeing both Michele Hicks and Kirsty Hume on the runway again or new faces watcher charting the course of fast rising star Antonella Graef there was excitement to be found. Riccardo Tisci’s graphic black and white collection shone on each and every model selected but there were a few girls in particular that grabbed our attention.

Antonella Graef

Antonella opens Givenchy

While Antonella Graef (Top S/S 10 Newcomer) snagged the bulk of our attention with her second time opening Givenchy (she opened couture too) there were almost too many cool girls to count. Mirte MaasAlla Kostromichova and Jacquelyn Jablonski continue to book only the best shows and top 10 newcomer Frida Gustavsson‘s winning streak extended into Paris. Exclusives like the Elena Ivanova (WM Paris) and Nastya Karzan provided welcome surprises and Tisci favorites like Lily Donaldson, Iselin Steiro, Lakshmi Menon and Meghan Collison all made appearances – important to note given just how many established girls spent their S/S seasons away from the catwalk.

Girls of Givenchy

Gwen Loos (Marilyn). Emily DiDonato. Jacquelyn Jablonski.

One of the most continuously interesting things about Givenchy’s casting is that each season it manages to change our view of certain girls. Take Maybelline face Emily DiDonato for example. Pre-Givenchy and she’s the the definition of wholesome, All-American sexiness (witness OTM’s video interview with her)-  a little eyebrow bleach and matte lipstick later and she’s one of Tisci androgynously beautiful heroines. Same goes for Italian bombshell Bianca Balti and the sultry Elena Melnik. The way every girl transforms once they enter into Tisci’s world is really what makes this show as powerful as it is season after season.

Bits and Bytes: The Mystery Man

August 11th, 2009 |Posted by Betty

The mysterious young man in the Just Cavalli ads with Kate Moss is none other than FM Agency‘s Chris Duffy. Though, used mainly here as a foil to Miss Moss’ larger than life presence, we feel this young British lad will be shining on his own in the coming months.

While our Ones2Watch section always has extraordinary new faces, today’s deserves a special mention. The Romanian Raisa and the German Daniel are most definitely ones to watch for the upcoming season.

Mario Testino and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, nuff said.

We love models that do a little something “extra.

In other Kate Moss news… if you haven’t already heard… Storm Model Management, her London agency, joins forces with Simon Fuller of American Idol fame.

If you look like Jamie Dornan, a tall drink of water if there ever was one, and live in Europe, you too could possibly be in the next Calvin Klein ads.

Did you know former Paris Vogue editor in chief Joan Juliet Buck was a child actor? We didn’t either.. She returns to the screen with Meryl Streep in Julie and Julia.

Bruce Weber fan? Check out the Sundance website for Bruce’s films and photos.

History Lesson: Ray Petri, one of the most influential stylists EVER, inspired a whole generation.

When artists become photographers, this is what happens… weirdly beautiful Matrix-y like images...

For all you Natasha Poly lovers (and that includes us), Women Paris has an interview with the enigmatic beauty. For another more outrageous interview, the Fucked Up Crew has one too!

Nylon Guys Magazine has a weekly feature about models! This week, it’s Australian beauty Tallulah Morton.

A fascinating story of the link between Michael Jackson and Versace.

Emily DiDonato is the new Maybelline girl and she’s going to be huge.

Frillr shares a story done by Italian Vanity Fair last year celebrating the style of Michael Jackson.. It’s pretty darn beautiful and Anna Davolio does an excellent job “being” MJ.

We love Daria Werbowy, not just for her beauty but for her realness and intelligence; so do many others.

Sad news of the week! If you haven’t already heard, Imitation of Christ’s Tara Subkoff is diagnosed with a brain tumor, the industry rallies to her help!

Forbes follow the top male models, now if only they can spell their names right!
