Photographed by Josh Olins backdropped by city lights, the campaign gives serious metropolitan after hours. Creative director Atelier Franck Durand envisioned Boling tucked away in the high-rise residence with just enough swank for some downtown sex appeal, all geared up to conquer the night. Testino Obsession

September 29th, 2014 |Posted by models.com

When Vogue Japan and Mario Testino (Art Partner) join forces anything is possible! The legendary photographer takes over the magazine, serving as the first guest editor in 15 years and bringing his unique viewpoint to each and every page. This is the 8th international Vogue issue that Testino has guest edited and if he ever tires of being one of the world’s foremost photographers he could easily slip into the role of editor. The art direction, design and editorials featured within are all top notch. Take a first look at the stories within and see what Testino and Vogue Japan’s Editor in Chief Mitsuko Watanabe have to say about this very special edition.

MARIO TESTINO: “I have been going to Japan on and off since the 1980s and since my very first experiences there I felt a spirit I really connected with. I found, on so many levels, that whatever the Japanese did, they did with absolute and unwavering conviction. It was this, which I came to view as obsession; it is a way of being that I have followed in my own life and career.

MITSUKO WATANABE: “This is the first time Testino has worked with VOGUE JAPAN. I am delighted that we have been able to realize this memorable project in which Mario has undertaken everything from photo shooting to editing to mark this special 15th anniversary, and also that the pages are magnificently finished to an outstandingly high degree of quality. This superb quality has greatly impressed me personally more than anything else.”

Less is More

May 7th, 2014 |Posted by Janelle

Josh Olins kicks back in the pages of British Vogue with an editorial infused with easygoing charm. Set in the windswept hills of Santa Barbara and starring Andreea Diaconu and Ashleigh Goodthe story focuses on minimal separates in neutral colors. With stylist Clare Richardson at the helm, the pared down color palette and restrained lineup of pieces from ChanelDerek Lam and Burberry Prorsum seems effortlessly cool rather than sharply severe. For their part, Andreea and Ashleigh look right at home in every shot, whether they’re lounging in the tall grass, or posing together on the edge of the boardwalk.

A fashion forward trip to the elegant Costa Careyes on Mexico’s Pacific shore makes for an inspired editorial. Girl of the moment Andreea shines in Olins’ imagery and features prominently throughout the issue. Author and man about town, Derek Blasberg interviews the brainy beauty about her college plans, career ambitions and the unexpected twists along the way, including the story behind her memorable collaborations with Mario Sorrenti. “The plan was for me to make enough money for four years of college, and then I’d walk away…” Diaconu quips to Blasberg, “I had just about saved enough and was thinking of quitting, and then I got a call from my agent: ‘Mario Sorrenti booked you for Italian Vogue.’”

Seeing Spots

May 30th, 2013 |Posted by Janelle

When Haider Ackermann filled his S/S13 runway with transparent creations emblazoned with black and white dots, it seemed like an unusual move. Polka dots are a fashion standard dating back years, but the diminutive patterns are more often associated with the prim styles of the 1950s than with the kinds of cutting-edge wares favored on Paris’ runways. The designer so known for his innovative use of lush, saturated color was showing another side, taking one of the most uncool of motifs and making it feel new.

In keeping with the current craze for all things graphic, stylists have embraced the versatility of these simple circles, working Ackermann’s creations into a variety of editorials. On occasion the interpretations don’t veer too far from the runway approach (fashion abides by the ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it’ mantra whenever it can) but the excitement comes when the spots are complimented by clashing patterns to create a dynamic visual treat. Whether it is layering in another of Ackermann’s prints from S/S or adding a bold kimono for interest, the real fun lies in the mix which offers stylists an opportunity to show their creativity.
