J.W.’s 1st

June 28th, 2013 |Posted by Janelle

The allure of the unexpected has always been a part of JW Anderson‘s aesthetic and for the line’s first campaign Anderson goes for imagery with an off-kilter appeal. Shot by Jamie Hawkesworth and styled by Benjamin Bruno, art direction by Christopher Simmonds and creative direction by Jefferson Hack‘s MAD London the campaign focuses on contrasting shots of a high ponytail sporting blonde and a male model carrying the ultimate statement accessory – a severed car door. The clash of visual cues and the simple, refined photography make for a ad that feels as fresh as Anderson’s fall collection.

Russh’s Energy

April 4th, 2013 |Posted by Janelle

Russh travels to the idyllic beaches of Ibiza for its Energy Issue. In the hands of another glossy, the topic of energy would be handled in a literal fashion with kinetic editorials brimming with tension, but Russh prefers to play it cool. Offering up a series of chill stories filled with fashionable femmes and an effortless vibe attuned to spring/summer’s easy-going fashions. Cover star Julia Nobis makes for the perfect embodiment of this laid back, yet irresistible aura. The lithe Aussie seem right at home as she chills in Celine Birkenstocks and she even manages to make high-concept pieces from Gareth Pugh & Alexander Wang look easy in Benny Horne‘s dreamy imagery.

Every new issue of Russh brings with it a wealth of beautiful new editorials with a decidedly feminine air that keeps things interesting. The magazine isn’t frou frou, it just taps into the kind of images that represent cool, effortlessly chic girls so well. One such girl – superstar Miranda Kerr – graces Russh’s cover this month, in a dreamy story by Hugh Lippe that captures her chill, down to earth vibe perfectly. Inside you’ll also find appealing new edits starring Bambi, Emma Balfour and new face Cassi. If you’re even more Aussie talent in this issue than usual, there is a good reason – this is Russh’s Homegrown issue and it focuses on all things fashionable rooted in Australia.
