Unexpected Pleasures

January 22nd, 2014 |Posted by Janelle

Interview Germany continues its tradition of excellence with two new fashion stories that go for the unexpected. Cover star Lindsey Wixson turns in a stellar performance in Sebastian Faena‘s sensual story inspired by the films of Rainer Werner Fassbinder and filled with the same thrilling, avant-garde energy as his work (with set design by Jesse Kaufmann). Julia von Boehm styles Wixson and Jon Kortajarena in dramatic looks that echo the decadent costumes of movies like Lola.

Charlotte Wales and Clare Byrne provide a different kind of surprise with a spirited denim editorial focused on the very best in blue jeans. The fresh-faced cast was culled directly from New York high schools, providing a unique change of pace and a distinctive set of teen beauties.

Double Vision: Comme des Garçons

November 2nd, 2012 |Posted by Janelle

Some collections are made for editorial greatness, on the runway they’re good but when a talented team gets ahold of things the stories those garments can tell are limitless. One collection that has found new life editorially is Comme des Garcons‘ excellent fall/winter showing. The exaggerated proportions, bold patterns and plays on dimension have made for some truly striking imagery. Stylists seem to love playing with Rei Kawakubos artful creations, and there are a few looks that keep popping up in magazines month after month. Whether they’re worn by the likes of style legend Iris Apfel, transformed into samurai gear for Meghan Collison, or made part of David Sims‘ stark imagery, it is impossible to miss a CdG piece. Take a look back at some of the most memorable uses of the collection thus far and see how different stylists dealt with some of the more popular pieces.
