Edit of the Week: Paper Plates

May 11th, 2012 |Posted by Janelle

How about a bit of full force creativity? Take a look at Shona Heath incredible sets in this unforgettable story for British Vogue. Shot by Tim Gutt and featuring an expressive turn from Lara Mullen, the story was inspired by Wedgewood China, the upcoming London Olympics and the season’s fixation with pretty pastels. From that source material comes a story that is inventive, abstract and right in line with the kind of unorthodox editorials Brit Vogue publishes every so often. Fashion editor Charlotte Pilcher‘s selection of on trend pieces adds to the fun with a mix of muted designs that looks great against the pink & purple backdrops. Easily our favorite new story of the week.

Nightlife

October 10th, 2011 |Posted by Janelle

Take away the cultivated coating of sleaze from Terry Richardson‘s work and you’re left with a surprisingly skillful snapshot photographer. Case in point his latest story for British Vogue is an elegant and upbeat trip through Manhattan nightlife. With the neon lights of the Odeon in the background, the bouyant energy of Karlie Kloss and some killer styling by Charlotte Pilcher, the editorial captures the vibrant life of a girl on the go. As always Karlie brings an effortless quality to her poses and her wholesome natural glamour shines, even when she’s dressed as a female version of Mr. Richardson or munching on a plate of french fries.

Take It To The Streets!

July 15th, 2011 |Posted by Janelle

The impact of street-style bloggers on the current fashion scene is undeniable. Whether you’re following every Lookbook.nu update or watching photogs like Garance Doré and Tommy Ton make their way into the pages of Vogue, it is hard to escape the blog phenomenon. This month’s British Vogue gives a wry twist on the trend with Raymond Meier‘s colorful street-style inspired editorial starring the stunning Suvi Koponen.

At first glance these pictures definitely look like something you’d see on a fashion Tumblr. You’ve got all the tell-tale tropes; girl toting motorcycle helmet in outfit unfit for a motorcycle – check, beleaguered editor carrying not one but two seasonal it-bags – check, Anna Dello Russo approved cherry hat – check. Stylist Charlotte Pilcher has certainly done her homework and it shows. The look at me (and please take my picture) over-the-top-ness of each look mimics the trend without ever verging into parody.

Marlena Szoka, (first featured on Feed back in October) is finally in New York!

_______________________________________

Charlotte Ronson has a new video for her F/W 09 collection. Director Pamela Hanson, DP Shane Sigler, makeup artist Charlotte Day hairstylist Leon Gorman, Charlotte’s sister, Annebelle Dexter-Jones (as the main model) and musician/model Donald Cumming all turn out a wonderfully sweet and carefree day in the life of 2 beautiful young New Yorkers.

Former Meisel favorite, Lynn Koester, has a beautiful son with Ford Models. Just goes to show you great genes will always prevail.

This month’s V magazine is really a must buy, hairstylist icons like Oribe, Christiaan and Jimmy Paul and top makeup artists likeAaron de Mey and Sandy Linter are featured. For more on Jimmy Paul, catch his interview with The Moment.

Now this is more like it… Though Style.com has 25 years of Christy Turlington in the pages of Vogue.. Jezebel’s Tatiana has some of Christy’s power campaigns from the 80′s and 90′s as well as incredibly beautiful shots mixed in with fantastically dated styling.

Funny, funny, funny. Refinery 29 has a hilarious guide to getting shot by Scott “The Sartorialist” Schuman. We would just like to add, you also have to be skinny as well if you’re young. Size-ist anyone?

Ah, we love Vivienne Westwood even more.. Nicola Formichetti covers Vivienne as she interviews one of HER heroes on a topic near and dear to her heart.

“I trust him”. Kate Moss praises photographer Rankin.
