The Sweet Escape

April 2nd, 2014 |Posted by Janelle

Spring is upon us and with the season comes the urge to travel and the promise of sun soaked escapes to far flung corners of the world. For fashion fanatics Spring also brings a thrilling influx of brand new designs and the latest issue of Russh‘s displays many of them in captivating fashion. Juliana Schurig graces the cover in a serene shot by Ward Ivan Rafik (Paris: ArtList Paris, New York: ArtList NY) that sets the stage for an issue focused on breaking from the typical. Though Schurig looks resplendent on sandy shores getting away from it all doesn’t always require a trip to the beach; readers can just as easily lose themselves in Clare Shilland’s smart studio shoot, or the striking accessories story starring Ophelie Rupp.

For more on the escape issue be sure to check out Russh Magazine.com

Abbey Road

March 20th, 2014 |Posted by Janelle

Admit it, things just weren’t the same without Abbey Lee Kershaw. The spirited Aussie has been away shooting Mad Max: Fury Road with Hollywood stars Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy, but April sees her returning to her high fashion roots. The Gilles Bensimon helmed April cover of Vogue Australia is one of the publication’s best and inside the issue Kershaw is featured in two stories. First up a tribal themed romp by Bensimon that sees the legendary photographer revisiting his signature style as Christine Centenera styles Abbey in an all white wardrobe of designer looks and second Will Davidson‘s dreamy trip take on eveningwear featuring creative direction by cinematic award winners Baz Luhrman & Catherine Martin. Still aching for an Abbey fix? Check her out in the new Saint Laurent Paris eyewear ads looking chic in oversized sunglasses designed and shot by Hedi Slimane.

Deep Dark

March 6th, 2014 |Posted by Janelle

Who better to explore the gothic side of fashion than the illustrious team of Craig McDean, Karl Templer and Sasha Pivovarova. With an eye for the atypical and a brooding ferocity that works it’s way into every image, the team creates an expressive vision with a dark twist in the pages of Interview Magazine. With pieces from Alexander McQueenLouis Vuitton and Tom Ford the story focuses on larger than life fashion, rejecting the convention that Spring stories need to be light, bright and filled with saccharine florals. With an inky black coif courtesy of Orlando Pita and understated makeup by Diane Kendal, Sasha is appropriately spooky and adds flair to McDean’s dramatic images.

Field of Dreams

January 21st, 2014 |Posted by Janelle

Fashion rebels rejoice! W Magazine takes a tour de force trip through the season’s eccentric styles as chosen by Edward Enninful. Craig McDean shoots Malaika Firth, Juliana Schurig, Marina Nery, Irene Hiemstra and Sasha Luss in outlandish looks from Prada, Lanvin and Chanel, covered with pattern, color, ruffles, lace and every other sort of embellishment imaginable. The girls look ornate but never overdone and McDean’s effortless images give the over the top editorial a sense of ease. Top notch work from James Pecis (New York: D + V Management, London: D + V Management ), Peter Philips and Megumi Itano adds to the finery, creating an exciting beauty look that pushes the images into the realm of the fantastical.

Double Debut

January 6th, 2014 |Posted by Janelle

One of the last season’s most compelling new beauties was the lovely Imaan Hammam, a Givenchy exclusive who opened Tisci’s dazzling S/S show and captured our attention with her graceful presence and unique look. In the months since Imaan has been showing up in all the right places, particularly in the pages of American Vogue where she headlines not one but two stories in the January issue. Posing alongside Liya Kebede in Mikael Jansson‘s tropical escape editorial and showing a completely different side in Craig McDean‘s chic collections story.

Black Books

December 11th, 2013 |Posted by Janelle

Re-imagining the contemporary denim wardrobe is no small feat but Karl Templer proves up to the task in the pages of Interview Magazine. Mixing in Victorian influence complete with a treasure trove full of sheer black lace and punk regalia, Templer styles Freja Beha Erichsen in Craig McDeans stark images. Sporting face paint, beading and biker boots, Freja looks right at home and brings a touch of cool to even Templer’s most inventive combinations.
