The Sporting Life

May 23rd, 2012 |Posted by Janelle

The Olympics are right around the corner and magazines are jumping on the bandwagon. Open up nearly any magazine this month and you’ll see a special on the London Olympics and/or a fashion special themed around all things sporty. Which story do you think captures the theme of athleticism, health and fitness best – we’re partial to the editorials that pair models with athletes for the perfect mix of glamour and fitness. Who can resist the sight of Joan Smalls taking of in a sprint while wearing shimmering Ralph Lauren? Or Karlie Kloss balancing on beams alongside gymnast Jonathan Horton! Take a look at the month’s best sporty stories and tell us which one strikes your fancy.

Karlie Kloss by Annie Leibovitz for American Vogue

Joan Smalls and Usain Bolt for American Vogue

Britt Maren by Greg Lotus for Vogue Russia

Athletes Jodie Williams & Louise Hazel by Peter Lindbergh for British Vogue

Gymnast Louis Smith & Jourdan Dunn by Alasdair McLellan

Bright Ideas

August 16th, 2011 |Posted by Janelle

A wild shock of color is bound to grab your attention and Vogue Russia‘s ultra-bright hair story by Victor Demarchelier is impossible to ignore. Britt Maren and Jana Knauerova have their short crops transformed by Didier Malige while Yadim Carranza gives them outlandish makeup to match. The final result is an energetic take on the season’s wildest hair trends, complimented by Melanie Huynhs gorgeous selection of designer pieces by Comme des Garcons, Miu Miu and Balenciaga.

Bits & Bytes: The New Beauty

March 23rd, 2011 |Posted by Betty

Along with Chanel Iman‘s recent appearance in DKNY’s Be Delicious, replacing Lara Stone, Eva Mendes is the new face of Thierry Mugler’s Angel, replacing Naomi Watts (WWD subscription required). That makes 2 women of color entering the high fashion fragrance game. Diversity, one step at a time.

We totally support Tao Okamoto as she rallies for Japan.

This Saturday Britt Maren along with Alana Zimmer host a brunch to benefit Japan at The Fat Radish. There will be live music, a silent auction and a wonderful meal too – click to get your tickets as space is limited!

Vogue Italia’s Franca Sozzani petitions against anorexia websites.

Hint Mag talks to Nicola Formichetti about finding the Mugler Face, Rick Genest.

Wynton Marsalis, Martha Stewart, Zac Posen, Michael Stipe and more at this fundraiser for Japan on Wednesday. Fascinating group for sure!

Sessilee Lopezz’s mom comes out with a handbook for moms and dads of budding supermodels.

Anna Wintour, consigliere? We love it.

VMan extends their modelsearch to April 15. Considering it’s for a shoot with Steven Klein styled by Nicola Formichetti, I would submit my pic if I could get away with it. Vote on your favorite submissions as well!

One Look

March 16th, 2011 |Posted by Janelle

One killer Dolce & Gabbana dress, two issues of Vogue; which do you prefer? Gisele Bundchen looks stunning on the cover of Emmanuelle Alt‘s first Vogue Paris in a relaxed photo by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin and on Vogue Germany‘s cover Britt Maren takes a beach stroll in a summery shot by Knoepfel & Indlekofer. Naturally, both girls look incredible and seeing the same piece on two very different girls leaves us wondering how quickly this little number will sell out in stores.
