Essential Homme Celebrates a Half Decade

September 22nd, 2015 |Posted by jonathanshia

Most five-year-olds would be content with little more than an ice-cream cake and a handful of balloons, but not Essential Homme. The menswear magazine celebrates half a decade with five sharp covers for their August/September issue, out now, featuring actors Michael Shannon, Boyd Holbrook, and Shiloh Fernandez, filmmaker Xavier Dolan, and singer Future, all of them men whose flourishing careers point to promising futures. Each cover subject sits for an enlightening shoot and profile within, as do Hermès’ Véronique Nichanian and Steven Kolb, head of the CFDA, who reflects on the inaugural New York Fashion Week Men’s just past. Roberto Sipos embodies the trends of the season, while the military look gets a special focus courtesy of a passel of powerful faces like Serge Rigvava, Ryan Keating, and Ton Heukels. Take a closer look at the new issue below.

Artistic Inspiration

April 10th, 2014 |Posted by jonathanshia

The menswear scene has taken an artistic bent of late, with a new season rife with references to painters, sculptors, and other creative minds. Spanish magazine Fucking Young offers a direct appeal in their latest edition, with a Spring issue built around the theme of the museum. Michiel Meewis offers a striking cover image, with Bastiaan Van Gaalen dressed by Ginger Clark in Kenzo’s wave-print coat, his face painted in a riot of soft white strokes. The stories within offer a refreshing variety of artistic scope, from Phil Dunlop’s rich Victorian-inspired portraits to Jay Schoen’s sleek study of pure minimalism, the latest rewards of the long and lasting interaction between fashion and art. First Look: The Greatest Fall 2013

October 9th, 2013 |Posted by

We can always expect a great issue to come from biannual men’s fashion magazine, The Greatest Magazine. The Italian magazine’s latest film features Andre Bona in an eerie all-red film, making a trek through a snow-covered mountain on an unknown journey, lost and lonely, in fabulous Dolce & Gabbana menswear, of course. The rest of the issue is filled with the pristine editorials we’ve come to expect from the young magazine. Whether in studio or on location, the latest and greatest men’s faces and fashion are sure to be featured in the stylish biannaual.

Back to Basics

The latest L’Officiel Hommes Italia, the second under new EIC, Pablo Arroyo, brings models back to the cover and we’re not complaining, especially when it’s someone as iconic as male modeling mainstay Werner Schreyer (wearing Dior Homme) as photographed by Tomo Brejc and styled by fashion director of L’OHI, Emil Rebek. Actor Max Irons along with Tyson Ballou, Andre Feulner, David Kammenos and Bastiaan Van Gaalen round out the cast of the new issue, hitting the stands this week.

Dutch Master

August 30th, 2011 |Posted by

Making his leap into our Top 50, Bastiaan Van Gaalen features in an editorial wearing only Raf Simons for THE END magazine. As one of the latest Dutch models to burst on the scene, we can only hope that he mirrors the same success as some of his compatriots. Through a series of color photographs off set by black and white by Greg Gex and the styling of Rossana Passalacqua, we can see why Raf is known for his contemporary take on classic cut menswear.

High Praise

August 23rd, 2011 |Posted by Janelle

Men of the cloth aren’t the first people you think of when it comes to high fashion, but VMan‘s Archetypes issue (out September 1st) might change all that. Taking a series of male standards and re-imagining them in stylish ways, the issue aims to challenge our perceptions. Anthony Maule and Jay Massacret‘s elegant story with Bastiaan Van Gaalen and Adrien Sahores is inspired by the look of priests and pontiffs but the designs featured can be appreciated by everyone. Given the austere direction of the season’s menswear looks, this series seems especially timely.

Pure and Simple

A young Dutchman to watch, Bastiaan Van Gaalen is perfectly cast in the latest issue of i-D by Karim Sadli. Bastiaan’s serene beauty complements the minimalist fashion as styled by Hannes Hetta.
