Models on the cover of American Vogue?! They said it couldn’t be done, but the new supers have taken the front page for September and provide a thrilling respite from the usual with a multi-girl cover filled with smiles and sparkling gowns. Joan Smalls, Cara Delevingne and Karlie Kloss lead the pack on the main cover looking exceptional in Mario Testino (Art Partner)’s upbeat cover shot. On the inside the next generation of beauties takes center stage with Arizona Muse, Edie Campbell, Imaan Hammam, Fei Fei Sun, Vanessa Axente, and Andreea Diaconu serving as Vogue’s latest lineup of stars. As with any high profile cover there is sure to be debate over who is and isn’t included in the line up – are you pleased with Vogue’s September selection, or are their other faces who you’d like to see on the cover as well? Sound off in the comments!

Dirty Jobs

July 28th, 2014 |Posted by Janelle

Odds are you probably wont see Arizona Muse toiling away at your local mechanic shop, but Vogue Paris  provides the elegant Miss Muse with a chance to put her fix-it skills to good use in a fresh story by Mark Segal. Dressed in workman standards like overalls, coveralls and plaid shirts aplenty, Arizona and the dashing Jason Anthony take turns welding, perching on toolboxes and wielding sledgehammers in Segal’s gritty yet playful imagery. Stylist Géraldine Saglio makes Muse & Anthony look natural in their gear, which lends the story and air of authenticity even though we’re sure most people don’t do their dirty work in Jean Paul Gaultier.

Seeing Spots

May 30th, 2013 |Posted by Janelle

When Haider Ackermann filled his S/S13 runway with transparent creations emblazoned with black and white dots, it seemed like an unusual move. Polka dots are a fashion standard dating back years, but the diminutive patterns are more often associated with the prim styles of the 1950s than with the kinds of cutting-edge wares favored on Paris’ runways. The designer so known for his innovative use of lush, saturated color was showing another side, taking one of the most uncool of motifs and making it feel new.

In keeping with the current craze for all things graphic, stylists have embraced the versatility of these simple circles, working Ackermann’s creations into a variety of editorials. On occasion the interpretations don’t veer too far from the runway approach (fashion abides by the ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it’ mantra whenever it can) but the excitement comes when the spots are complimented by clashing patterns to create a dynamic visual treat. Whether it is layering in another of Ackermann’s prints from S/S or adding a bold kimono for interest, the real fun lies in the mix which offers stylists an opportunity to show their creativity.
