The Outsiders

April 15th, 2014 |Posted by Janelle

Fashion relies on outcasts, originals and those with a voracious need for what’s next – Dazed & Confused‘s latest issue salutes those visionary spirits. A Givenchy clad Mariacarla Boscono graces the first cover in an arresting image styled by Panos Yiapanis. Sporting multiple piercings and a wealth of sequins paired with simple tartans in Willy Vanderperre (Art Partner)’s cover shot, Mariacarla serves as the perfect representation of fashion fearlessness. The eternally cool Jamie Bochert sports archival Ann Demeulemeester styled by Katy England on her cover for an apt depiction of the nonchalant edginess Demeulemeester’s label embodies. Celebrated Belgian actors Matthias Schoenaerts and Veerle Baetens feature on two limited edition covers also shot by Vanderperre and styled by Robbie Spencer. The famous duo serve as the start of an epic 50 page fashion story dedicated to the rise of the Belgian underground and its cultural impact.

An Intimate Portrayal

February 18th, 2014 |Posted by Janelle

Certain models take on the role of muse as though it were a second skin, inspiring image makers with their poise, beauty and unique personas. The latest issue of Muse Magazine pays tribute to that spirit with an enchanting cover starring one of modeling’s true chameleons. Guinevere Van Seenus looks as distinctive as ever in Erik Madigan Heck‘s image, sporting a veil by Ann Demeulemeester and a serene look. Like her Arthurian namesake, Guinevere serves as a source of inspiration for countless artists and here she brings out the best in Heck and stylist Yana Kamps, both of whom unleash their creativity. The final images are a sweeping trip through the season’s most sumptuous pieces. Inside there’s even more Guinevere to love, including an equally compelling minimal editorial by Zoe Ghertner and a fun interview where the industry vet shares musical favorites and style secrets.

On changing her look:
“I get tired of looking at my own face so I love to experiment with my hair color”

On loving the style from the 90s:
“There was a way of expressing yourself through clothes that had nothing to do with your financial capability… you could even pick something out of the garbage and look amazing.. there was a lot of emotion and genuine angst that came to the surface. And I still love the style because its comfortable”

On her musical faves:
“Driving Music- Black Sabbath. Exercise music: maybe Cyndi Lauper or early Madonna. Lionel Richie for Romance?”

Who needs bells and whistles when you’ve got a great photographer, two of the loveliest faces on the scene and impeccable styling? Boo George shoots Juliana Schurig and Dalianah Arekion in the pages of i-D Magazine in a simple, evocative black and white shoot that capitalizes on the natural beauty of both girls and the beachfront setting. Stylist Caroline Newell uses minimal chic pieces from Edun, Céline and Ann Demeulemeester to great effect, making the story not just beautiful – but completely on trend.

Dark & Lovely

July 25th, 2012 |Posted by Janelle

With her long black hair and piercing blue eyes, Kinga Rajzak has become the go-to girl for editorials in need of an eerie touch, but just because she’s everyone’s favorite ultra-cool beauty doesn’t mean she can’t deliver classic elegance when called for. Jem Mitchell‘s dynamic beauty shots for Vogue Japan are dark and brooding, but they’re also a sophisticated showcase for the timeless appeal of a berry lip, or smoky eye created by Petros Petrohilos. Chic styling by Jamie Surman, enhances the story, with gothic pieces from Ann Demeulemeester and lacy Dolce & Gabbana setting the sartoriali mood. Hair genius Neil Moodie ads the final bit of polish, crafting elegantly undone styles for Kinga, that mesh with the woodsy setting and folkloric feel.
