McQueen Forever

February 16th, 2015 |Posted by Janelle

Another Magazine always pushes the boundaries of what a magazine can be and its S/S15 issue is a testament to that fact. Focusing on the past, present and future of Alexander McQueen‘s legacy the issue looks back to Lee Alexander McQueen’s archives while nodding to Sarah Burton‘s current collection. Three very different muses grace the front page, rising star Stella Lucia is transformed by Nick Knight in an arresting image, while actress Léa Seydoux is a natural beauty in Collier Schorr‘s portrait. Finally the unmistakable Rihanna poses for Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin in custom McQueen. The combination of viewpoints and covers makes for a beautiful tribute to the versatility and creativity that continues to define the McQueen aesthetic.

McQueen’s Majesty

January 20th, 2015 |Posted by Janelle

Alexander McQueen‘s seasonal ads always push the boundary between art and commerce and for spring the brand enters new territory with a David Sims helmed campaign featuring Karolin Wolter. Sarah Burton‘s spring collection was heavily influenced by Japanese culture and that vibe is subtlety reinforced in Sims’ imagery. The red lips and pencil thin brows worn with aplomb by Wolter provide an added touch of retro-drama to the already striking photos.

McQueen’s Fantasy

Steven Klein (Art Partner) reunites with Alexander McQueen for another memorably eerie campaign. The atmospheric ads bring the romantic feel of the fall/winter show to life with a dark and moody backdrop filled with decaying mansions and thoroughbred horses. Edie Campbell poses like a pro in Klein’s images, looking right at home in Sarah Burton’s fantastical designs even as she perches on the back of a horse.

It goes without saying that Yumi Lambert is a sparkling presence in editorials, but in the latest Vogue China she literally gleams. Metallic cosmetics take center stage in Kenneth Willardt‘s (Exposure NY) dynamic story featuring Lambert and makeup artist Lisa Houghton pulls out all the stops. A bold metallic eye shines as brightly as stacks of Repossi rings, while a dramatic silver shadow compliments a Alexander McQueen headdress. Stylist Tina Chai and Houghton create a uniform look that merges the wildest fashions with some truly incredible futuristic face paint. Diego Da Silva adds in an array of otherworldly wigs in shades of navy and azure to finish up a look that melds cartoon with couture.
