Vogue Italia Lines It Up

March 15th, 2016 |Posted by Irene Ojo-Felix

Vogue Italia is distorting silhouettes and exploring shapes in this surreal fashion editorial shot by Craig McDean. Hot List member Marland Backus plays muse to the colorful, kooky pieces selected by Alex White that certainly sway on the unconventional side. The new look is all about warped, slanted seams and dramatically daring pieces from Hood by Air, Céline, Vetements, LVMH Prize finalist Y/Project, even jewelry pieces from Marland herself make the cut. Swept-away flaxen waves defy gravity thanks to Shay Ashual while clean, strobe-lighted makeup is paired with etch-a-sketched drawings from the hands of Diane Kendal. Is the reward worth the risk? See for yourself below.

We, along with the rest of the fashion world are in a tizzy over the upcoming McQueen retrospective at the Met.
Apparently these are 4 real models photoshopped to look like mannequins, check out the fascinating story on the NY Times.

Fashion news:

Phoebe Philo is known for her woman-friendly, effortless style and has reoriented fashion away from a past decade of overly girly, trendy clothes, into a more grown-up minimal aesthetic,” she said. “It is a stealth brand of pure design.” Finally, clothes designed for real women. After 16 years, Alex White has left W, to be replaced by Edward Enninful.

Victoria’s Secret has a secret.

In preparation for the Met Ball, Daphne Guinness will turn fashion into art appearing in Barney’s windows at 5pm on Monday.

Richard Chai is posting a new model every day on his Twitter wearing his charity T-shirt for Odin. Check out Richard’s Twitter.

Modeling news:

We knew that Asian models were on the rise. James Lim keeps track of the hottest girls. Speaking as an Asian person, all I can say is, it’s about time!

“If there’s a camera over there it’s like a laser in the back of my head– I can feel it and I will model for it.” Why we love Crystal Renn

Just Cavalli

November 17th, 2010 |Posted by Janelle

Leave it to Patrick Demarchelier and Alex White to add a touch of class to Roberto Cavalli’s in your face outfits. The duo joins forces in the latest W to pay tribute to Cavalli’s 40 years in the business and together they create a lovely black and white story with Frida Gustavsson. The mid-air poses and simple background are studio shoot staples, but White’s tribal themed is beautiful and fresh.

Image Conscious

W gives us an early taste of fall with Craig McDean‘s chic portfolio of the season’s must have looks. Using a cast of IMG beauties and a simple peach backdrop, McDean highlights just about every piece we loved from the F/W collections. Once again Alex White‘s styling looks phenomenal and each girl wears an ensemble that speaks to her personality; could anyone look better in that stunning Haakan dress than Karolina, who better to show off Rodarte’s ethereal spirt than Liya? April 16th, 2010 |Posted by Janelle

David Sims breaks out his signature stark black and whites for W: the simple style of the photographs allows the talents of the whole team to shine. From Alex White‘s always impeccable styling, to Guido Palau‘s voluminous hairstyles and Alla Kostromichova, Patricia van der Vliet, Heidi Mount and Kamila Filipcikova edgy looks, each element works well together.

Derelict Diva

August 19th, 2009 |Posted by Janelle

With the recession in full swing and fashion labels, magazine and consumers feeling the crunch W taps into the worst fear of every fashionista – the moment when designer obsession leads to dire straits. In September’s fashion blow out Sasha Pivovarova plays the world’s chicest vagrant as she camps out on the streets in little more than torn bags from luxury stores. Alex Whites creative styling turns a Dior shopping bag into a little white dress and Craig McDean‘s slick photography makes the whole affair strangely compelling but given the sad state of things this ironic editorial isn’t entirely far fetched.
