Just Cavalli

November 17th, 2010 |Posted by Janelle

Leave it to Patrick Demarchelier and Alex White to add a touch of class to Roberto Cavalli’s in your face outfits. The duo joins forces in the latest W to pay tribute to Cavalli’s 40 years in the business and together they create a lovely black and white story with Frida Gustavsson. The mid-air poses and simple background are studio shoot staples, but White’s tribal themed is beautiful and fresh.

W gives us an early taste of fall with Craig McDean‘s chic portfolio of the season’s must have looks. Using a cast of IMG beauties and a simple peach backdrop, McDean highlights just about every piece we loved from the F/W collections. Once again Alex White‘s styling looks phenomenal and each girl wears an ensemble that speaks to her personality; could anyone look better in that stunning Haakan dress than Karolina, who better to show off Rodarte’s ethereal spirt than Liya? See the full portfolio and the models and designer’s take on each look at W

Derelict Diva

August 19th, 2009 |Posted by Janelle

With the recession in full swing and fashion labels, magazine and consumers feeling the crunch W taps into the worst fear of every fashionista – the moment when designer obsession leads to dire straits. In September’s fashion blow out Sasha Pivovarova plays the world’s chicest vagrant as she camps out on the streets in little more than torn bags from luxury stores. Alex Whites creative styling turns a Dior shopping bag into a little white dress and Craig McDean‘s slick photography makes the whole affair strangely compelling but given the sad state of things this ironic editorial isn’t entirely far fetched.
