Signs of the Times

April 20th, 2015 |Posted by jonathanshia

As we move from Aries into Taurus, Spanish menswear magazine Fucking Young!—born under the sign of Capricorn—prepares to launch a Spring/Summer 2015 issue this week devoted to the theme of the Zodiac, with a story on each of the twelve standard signs along with one for the little-known thirteenth, Ophiucus, the Serpent Bearer, here portrayed by Alessio Pozzi.

Alexandre Cunha plays Aquarius wrapped in a wool scarf by Loewe on the cover shot by Gorka Postigo, while Benedikt Angerer and Andre Bona embody the clean intellect of Capricorn. The twins Niek and Erik Put are, of course, Gemini, and Dominik Bauer stars in a darkly glittering take on Scorpio. Interviews with designers Humberto Leon and Carol Lim of Opening Ceremony and Kenzo and Jeremy Scott of Moschino fill out the issue, which ends with a horoscope for the year ahead. Take a look at our exclusive preview of the issue, available now for preorder at Fucking Young, below.

Winter to Spring

March 3rd, 2014 |Posted by jonathanshia

The cover of the latest issue of DSection may be a study in winter white, but the pages inside make it clear that spring is well on its way. Arthur Gosse and Baptiste Radufe, dressed by Jimi Urquiga in Thom Browne’s Versailles-inspired designs, are photographed by Jack Waterlot for the accompanying story lounging in a snowbound cabin, but the floral prints and bright sportswear found throughout the rest of the menswear magazine offer a welcome prelude to the thaw. Alexi Lubomirski shoots the iconic Daria Werbowy on a secluded patch of welcoming sand, while Nicolas Valois captures new face Daniel van der Deen looking steamy in Dries Van Noten’s rich palm tree-print shirt. Many of today’s biggest faces make appearances as well, from Anders Hayward and Marc Sebastian Faiella to Alexandre Cunha and Ton Heukels, all with that certain elegance expected from DSection.

Youth and Masculinity

February 1st, 2014 |Posted by jonathanshia

When photographer Ian Cole founded CLIENT Magazine in late 2010, his mission was to “use a fashion dialogue to explore youth and masculinity” through rich, authentic black-and-white photography, idiosyncratic styling, and the industry’s top and up and coming faces. Now the publication has graduated from newsprint to perfect-bound paperbacks, and publishes four times a year, with the latest issue celebrating the consistently intriguing magazine’s third anniversary. A trio of covers offer the choice between the established and the brand-new, with the fantastic Ben Allen photographed by Cole himself on one, a grinning Charlie James—his mouth still full of braces—by Anna Victoria Best on another and a pensive Dominik Sadoch by Matt Lambert on the 3rd. Inside, Reece Sanders takes a quiet, contemplative turn in Charlotte Hadden’s editorial, while Emmanuel Giraud‘s New Madison portfolio showcases classic faces like Arran Sly, Alexandre CunhaNathaniel Visser and Tom Webb. Stories by Sam Scott Schiavo and Jeremy Kost help round out the issue, which marks a confident step forward in Client’s continuing evolution.

Spring Awakening

January 5th, 2012 |Posted by models.com

Spring/Summer 2012 has proved to be a great run for a string of first timers for their respective houses; many of them also choosing new faces to front their campaigns for the season. How do you think these guys have fared?

Greg Nawrat for Gucci by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott | Alex Cunha for Bottega Veneta by Jack Pierson

While usually having a bevy of models in their ads, Gucci went solo this season with new and fresh faced Greg Nawrat. It also seems that Bottega Veneta had the same idea and tapped spring show opener Alex Cunha to star in their campaign, shot by contemporary artist Jack Pierson.

Simon Nessman for Giorgio Armani by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott | Ryan Barrett for Versace by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott

Running champs of the campaign season again, Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott explored two different sides with Giorgio Armani and Versace. Simon Nessman solidifies his place on our list in a sleek and simple setting while relatively unknown British face Ryan Barrett snags an only guy campaign beside the illustrious Gisele.

Baptiste Radufe for Yves Saint Laurent by David Sims | Florian Van Bael for Emporio Armani by Alasdair McLellan

Coincidence that a pair of black and white ads feature new Belgians? One of our Top Newcomers this past season, Baptiste Radufe shows us there’s a new Baptiste in town starring in Yves Saint Laurent‘s sleek spring looks. Another one of our Top Newcomers, Florian Van Bael is set on the streets of Hong Kong shot by Alasdair McLellan for Emporio Armani‘s latest campaign.

Noah Mills for Salvatore Ferragamo by Mikael Jansson | Simone Nobili & Chris Moore for Givenchy by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott

Classic good looks seem to be the key to success, and Noah Mills is proof that it’s true. Shot on location in Jamaica by Mikael Jansson, Noah continues the tradition of the luxurious lifestyle of the brand. On the opposite side of Salvatore Ferragamo, new faces Simone Nobili and Chris Moore hold their own in Givenchy‘s dark and moody spring ads by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.
