Full View: Transmission

January 14th, 2014 |Posted by Janelle

We first previewed the eclectic and intelligent Transmission Magazine with an interview editor in chief Dylan Forsberg that provided an in-depth look at the magazine’s inception and unique point of view. Now the entire issue is available for perusal online, complete with stripped down stories featuring Alana Zimmer, Hanne Gaby Odiele, Samantha Gradoville and Kasia Struss. Shot by Forsberg and Paul Maffi the issue explores themes of duality and transparency via an array of thoughtful content – short stories, paintings and of course photographs.

Ad Network

January 16th, 2013 |Posted by Janelle

More fabulous fashion ads keep coming in, take a look at the latest.

TOM FORD

Tom Ford – Designer & Photographer | Orlando Pita – Hair Stylist | Charlotte Tilbury – Makeup Artist |Karlina Caune & Simon Van Meervenne – Models

We can always count on Tom Ford for an epitomized version of modern glamour and his latest campaign delivers with sleek shots by Ford himself of Karlina Caune and Simon Van Meervenne. Playing to his strengths the designer / photographer / director / provocateur creates simple images that focus on those decadent designs. Who needs exotic locations and complicated set ups when you have the beauty of those golden to the knee sandals and fringed shoes! Karlina and Simon look pretty damn good too, both models capture the slightly dangerous and oh so sexy vibe of Ford’s ethos.

ALEXANDER WANG

Alexander Wang
 – Designer | Steven Klein – Photographer | Pascal Dangin – Art Director | Malgosia Bela – Model

Given the memorable way Wang presented his S/S collection’s glow in the dark dresses, we were expecting a campaign with flashing lights, or blinding neons from Alexander Wang. Never one to go for the obvious thrill, Wang enlists Steven Klein and Pascal Dangin for an evocative campaign featuring the Malgosia Bela. The beauty of these images lies in the artistic way in which the clothing is presented: with her body painted in white and the stark backdrop, Malgosia looks more like a performance artist than a model. As the Wang label enters into its next stage of development this campaign provides a dynamic and eye-catching brand message.

KENZO

Jean Paul Goude – Photographer | Anthony Turner – Hair Stylist | Aaron de Mey – Makeup Artist | Humberto Leon & Carol Lim – Creative Directors | Jester White & Ming Xi – Models

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Kenzo’s F/W ads by Jean Paul Goude were arresting and upbeat – they even made our best of 2012 list and for S/S the saga continues with Ming Xi and Jester White picking up where things left off. We didn’t think it would be possible, but these ads are even more colorful and kooky than the first set.

AKRIS

Karim Sadli – Photographer | Anthony Turner – Hair Stylist | Hannah Murray – Makeup Artist | Alana Zimmer – Model

Karim Sadli shoots Akris’ understated S/S ads featuring Alana Zimmer. Akris has always been about luxury that whispers instead of shouts and Saldi does an excellent job of communicating that message visually. Albert Kriemler’s elegantly minimal designs look especially beautiful set against the lush green backdrop and Alana is as lovely as ever.

ROBERTO CAVALLI

Roberto Cavalli – Designer | Mario Testino  – Photographer | Marie Chaix – Fashion Editor/Stylist | Sam McKnight – Hair Stylist | Charlotte Tilbury – Makeup Artist | Jack Flanagan – Set Designer | Lorraine Griffin – Manicurist

Roberto Cavalli’s clothes are not for wallflowers, so it makes sense that the S/S campaign features three of the boldest and mostt compelling models around. Isabeli Fontana, Malgosia Bela and Sui He star in Mario Testino‘s kinetic images filled with bold prints, saturated colors and the brand’s signature in your face opulence.

She’s Electric!

May 22nd, 2012 |Posted by Janelle

Fashion goes high gloss and high tech in Santiago and Mauricio‘s latest film for Nowness. Watch as Alana Zimmer is transformed into an Prada and Chanel clad anime dream girl dressed in over the top designs chosen by stylist Elizabeth Sulcer. Flashing lights and a pulsating groove keep this kinetic short going as do Alana’s cool moves and the techno Tron-esque atmosphere created by Santiago and Mauricio.

Bits & Bytes: The New Beauty

March 23rd, 2011 |Posted by Betty

Along with Chanel Iman‘s recent appearance in DKNY’s Be Delicious, replacing Lara Stone, Eva Mendes is the new face of Thierry Mugler’s Angel, replacing Naomi Watts (WWD subscription required). That makes 2 women of color entering the high fashion fragrance game. Diversity, one step at a time.

We totally support Tao Okamoto as she rallies for Japan.

This Saturday Britt Maren along with Alana Zimmer host a brunch to benefit Japan at The Fat Radish. There will be live music, a silent auction and a wonderful meal too – click to get your tickets as space is limited!

Vogue Italia’s Franca Sozzani petitions against anorexia websites.

Hint Mag talks to Nicola Formichetti about finding the Mugler Face, Rick Genest.

Wynton Marsalis, Martha Stewart, Zac Posen, Michael Stipe and more at this fundraiser for Japan on Wednesday. Fascinating group for sure!

Sessilee Lopezz’s mom comes out with a handbook for moms and dads of budding supermodels.

Anna Wintour, consigliere? We love it.

VMan extends their modelsearch to April 15. Considering it’s for a shoot with Steven Klein styled by Nicola Formichetti, I would submit my pic if I could get away with it. Vote on your favorite submissions as well!

The Antidote

November 30th, 2010 |Posted by Janelle

With a fresh perspective and a wealth of creativity, Antidote provides a cure for the common fashion magazine. Devised as an alternative to traditional fare, the magazine gives one photographer free range to interpret an editorial theme via a variety of photo stories. The inaugural issue tackles the topic of denim with a series of breathtaking shoots created by Thomas Lagrange and editor in chief Yann Weber, plus accompanying articles that detail the history and mythology of everyone’s favorite wardrobe staple.

Sublime!

April 12th, 2010 |Posted by Janelle

Sometimes everything just comes together flawlessly: Alana Zimmer, stars in a perfectly executed Vogue Italia editorial by Greg Lotus. Set against an incredible cave backdrop, the story features Alana in ornate gold jewelry, unusual hair looks by Antoinette Beenders and monochromatic makeup by Stephen Dimmick. Each element, with flawless styling by Danny Santiago, adds to the dreamy feel of the images and helps to create a truly memorable story that highlights Alana’s regal beauty.
