First Look: Document Journal

April 29th, 2016 |Posted by steven.yatsko

The soon-to-be-out S/S ’16 issue of Document Journal is a who’s who of the here and now, and if the 8 covers fronted by fashion’s royalty like Hedi Slimane and Grace Coddington didn’t tip you off, then here’s the inside to take you there. Between the amusing and uncommon imaginings of collaborators like Willy Vanderperre and Olivier RizzoColin Dodgson and Joe McKennaRoe Ethridge and Robbie Spencer to the pleasurably picturesque–like Coco Capitan‘s unassuming take on Lena Hardt or Venetia Scott‘ suburban-backdropped portraits styled by Sarah Richardson, there’s probably nowhere better to be. Starting now, Richardson will be the magazines new fashion director. Casting goes full out too, to good effect thanks to Piergiorgio Del Moro and Samuel Ellis Scheinman: models Stella TennantRianne van RompaeyAlice MetzaEstella Boersma plus more, use their respective demand to bring the issue to the far side of choicest. See below an exclusive Models.com preview of the issue before it hits stands.

Document Journal will be on sale the first week of May exclusively at Dover Street New York, BookMarc New York, Iconic Magazines New York, Dover Street London, Broken Arm Paris, Colette, 0FR Paris and 10 Corso Como Milan, and available worldwide the following week. The Company You Keep

May 26th, 2015 |Posted by steven.yatsko

In celebration of i-D Magazine’s 35th birthday Alasdair McLellan (Art Partner) shoots a league of winking models, 18 to be exact, from the industry’s North Stars like Kate Moss, Malgosia BelaLara Stone and newly minted super Jourdan Dunn to a crop of next of kin muses like Anna Ewers, Natalie Westling and Grace Hartzel. The British photographer who is known for his pared down approach had his career launched by the iconic publication after his work caught the eye of stylist Simon Foxton. Since then he’s been part of the I-D family, so having him shoot the entire summer issue front to back seems a befitting concept. Surely fans of Alasdair McLellan’s work are already drooling.

First Look: Re-Edition Premier Issue

March 9th, 2015 |Posted by jonathan

Past and present meet on the two covers of the début issue of Re-Edition, the brand new quarterly out of Antwerp and London from editor Eddie Eldridge, with the choice of either a rare archival image from 1997 of the iconic Stella Tennant by Mark Borthwick or Harley Weir’s dreamy image of an androgynous young man dolled up in a dress by Vetements, the upstart design collective that was just named a finalist in this year’s LVMH Prize competition. Both art and fashion get equal billing in the issue, with excerpts from photographer Alec Soth’s new book Songbook and artist Jim Goldberg’s famous collection Raised by Wolves alongside a range of provocative fashion features. The late Dash Snow is represented by archival works, and the legendary Vivienne Westwood gets her due in a profound retrospective of her lengthy career, making the old feel new again.

Document Based

September 4th, 2014 |Posted by models.com

Why have just one great cover when you can have six? Document Journal‘s F/W 2014 covers feature this season’s mega-models including Saskia de Brauw, Daria Werbowy, Stella Tennant, Raquel Zimmermann, Binx Walton, and Edie Campbell. The variety of this season’s covers show how the photographers & teams brought their own unique spirit to the table. Each cover stands alone, but artistry serves as a unifying theme bringing the diverse covers under the same creative umbrella. Contemporary art star Richard Prince shoots Daria Werbowy against an abstract canvas backdrop, while sculptor Isa Genzken reimagines Stella Tennant as a living work of art. Document’s impressive slate of photographers unleashed their creative side as well with Collier Schorr offering a studied portrait of a paint accented Saskia de Brauw. Roe Ethridge transforms it girl Binx Walton into a modern day Eve – complete with creeping serpent, while Richard Bush taps into Edie Campbell‘s reserves of cool with a Vuitton clad shot. Last but not least, hair stylist du jour Guido Palau collaborates with Fabien Baron for a special cover taking the versatile Raquel Zimmermann and capturing in an austere fashion that is both slick and stripped down.

We love each and every new cover of Document and can’t even pick a favorite… can you?

Supersize Me

June 9th, 2014 |Posted by Janelle

When Jeremy Scott‘s exuberant vision for Moschino premiered on the fall runways the collection provided fashion fans with a tongue in cheek take on consumerism via fast food logos and larger than life slogans. For the corresponding campaign Scott’s outlandish clothes are balanced by elegant Steven Meisel shots of the biggest supermodels. Linda Evangelista, Carolyn Murphy, Raquel Zimmermann, Stella Tennant, Karen Elson and Saskia de Brauw feature in Meisel’s chic black and white portraits appearing chic even while clutching Big Mac bags and blingy baseball caps. With its mix of high and low, humorous and haute the campaign is a perfect representation of the Moschino ethos.
