The Look of Daniele & Iango

April 6th, 2012 |Posted by Janelle

There are a lot of talented people on the scene, but it is rare to see a fresh photographer break through the glass ceiling. Let’s face it – most of the high profile work still goes to names like Testino / Lindbergh / Meisel, etc.  and while we love all those greats – charting the progress of newer talent can be riveting.  Daniele Duella and Iango Henzi are in the midst of an editorial moment right now, with beautiful work appearing in i-D Magazine, Vogue Japan, Vogue Germany and V Magazine.

The duo showcases a great deal of versatility within their work, but each image is marked by a certain off-kilter elegance. Whether it is China Machado carefully adding a Rick Owens hair comb to Shalom Harlow‘s up-do, or Natasha Poly posed like a debutante in seafoam Chanel, the pictures are always refined: every detail just so, not a hair out of place. Speaking of which, Danielle and Iango’s refined style is always enhanced by the genius hair stylings of their frequent collaborator Luigi Murenu.

Stylist: Patti Wilson | Hair: Luigi Murenu | Makeup: Stephane Marais | Models: Carolyn Murphy, Isabeli Fontana, Guinevere Van Seenus, Shalom Harlow & China Machado for i-D Magazine

Stylist: George Cortina | Hair: Luigi Murenu | Makeup: Jeanine Lobell | Model: Natasha Poly for Vogue Japan

Stylist: Joanne Blades | Hair: Luigi Murenu | Makeup: Karim Rahman | Casting: Julia Lange | Models: Eniko Mihalik, Snejana Onopka, Iris Strubegger & Karolina Kurkova for Vogue Germany

Amber Alert

April 1st, 2010 |Posted by Janelle

Amber Valletta and Steven Meisel, reunite for a Vogue Italia cover that reminds us of the good ol’ days of the 90s. Remember the Amber and Shalom days: beautiful models on every cover, girls with the presence and power to command the attention of high fashion followers and the general public. Seeing Amber’s pristine face (even with the questionable hair hat) reminds us all of that great era and just how vital a model Amber still is.

The Feminine Mystique

February 18th, 2010 |Posted by Janelle

There is something about the way Mario Sorrenti creates a picture that just brings out the best in his subjects. In the latest issue of W, Sorrenti takes 18 of the most beautiful models and shoots them looking seductive and sensual: some of the pictures work better than others but he manages to capture the essence of each girl.

A Soft Touch

December 7th, 2009 |Posted by Janelle

The buzz surrounding the new Vogue Italia may focus on the Twitpic cover story, but the issue is filled with intriguing editorial content : Tom Munro‘s striking story featuring Shalom Harlow and Taryn Davidson, is one of the clear standouts. Within the story, Munro creates a world of soft colors and shimmering textures that makes the clothes and the girls look amazing, plus the combination of Shalom’s inimitable poise and Taryn’s delicate beauty is especially lovely, you have to love great casting.

Take Two

August 14th, 2009 |Posted by Janelle

As a fashion model Amber Valletta has achieved everything there is to achieve -  major covers? Check? Beauty campaign? Check. Television show with BFF Shalom Harlow? Check. You name it, Amber has done it and with the kind of poise and elegance that few models can call their own. Taking the leap into movies may seem like  the logical next step but each new venture represents another challenge – this summer Amber has a pivotal role in the sci-fi flick Gamer but its been a long and interesting road. Believe it or not this is the 20th film Amber has appeared in.

Acting aside, Amber can still be found in the pages of the world’s best magazines. Case in point the September V features the supermodel looking fresh as ever, photographed by Hedi Slimane in pure black and white. Reminds us exactly why we fell in love with Ms. Valletta’s perfect face in the first place.

Keep It Real

August 11th, 2009 |Posted by Janelle

With fashion’s full-fledged youth obsession it’s easy to forget that beauty is something that has nothing to do with age. In September’s Bazaar, eight of the most enduring beauties around go bare faced for Peter Lindbergh and the results are thought provoking.  Amber Valletta, Shalom Harlow, Kristen McMenamy, Helena Christensen, Nadja Auermann, Cindy Crawford, Claudia Schiffer and Tatjana Patitz are all stunning but seeing them without makeup, excessive retouching or complicated styling adds a new layer to their allure.
