Blast from the Past: Supermodels Singing
April 4th, 2012 | Janelle
We all know models like Karen Elson and Baptiste Giabiconi are all about their music careers, but here are a few nostalgic musical moments from the past featuring fashion personalities.
Naomi Campbell – All Through The Night + Love & Tears
Before she became an editor at Interview Russia, Naomi tried her hand at a music career with the release of her 1994 album, Babywoman. On the album Naomi covers Donna Summer’s classic All Through the Night and she sounds pretty damn good. The album wasn’t exactly a smash hit and Naomi hasn’t released another since, but we’ll always have this and of course the video for Love & Tears.
Tyra Banks – Shake Ya Body
Who can forget this masterpiece of modern reality television and autotune. Not only did Tyra record a song, she managed to make the video’s creation a subplot on America’s Next Top Model. For the non-moguls out there that is what they call they call multi-tasking!
Milla Jovovich – The Gentleman Who Fell
When she isn’t posing for campaigns or fighting zombies (or both – there are moments when those situations mix) Milla J is busy making music. Her album The Divine Comedy – also released in 1994, clearly the peak year for supermodel album sales – was praised by critics. Though she hasn’t come out with a full album since, Milla frequently releases MP3s on her website.
Joe McKenna – Cha Cha at the Opera
Ok. Ok. Joe isn’t technically a supermodel but you know what, this clip is priceless all the same.
