Blast from the Past: Supermodels Singing

April 4th, 2012 |Posted by Janelle

We all know models like Karen Elson and Baptiste Giabiconi are all about their music careers, but here are a few nostalgic musical moments from the past featuring fashion personalities.

Naomi Campbell – All Through The Night + Love & Tears

Before she became an editor at Interview Russia, Naomi tried her hand at a music career with the release of her 1994 album, Babywoman. On the album Naomi covers Donna Summer’s classic All Through the Night and she sounds pretty damn good. The album wasn’t exactly a smash hit and Naomi hasn’t released another since, but we’ll always have this and of course the video for Love & Tears.

Tyra Banks – Shake Ya Body

Who can forget this masterpiece of modern reality television and autotune. Not only did Tyra record a song, she managed to make the video’s creation a subplot on America’s Next Top Model. For the non-moguls out there that is what they call they call multi-tasking!

Milla Jovovich – The Gentleman Who Fell

When she isn’t posing for campaigns or fighting zombies (or both – there are moments when those situations mix) Milla J is busy making music. Her album The Divine Comedy – also released in 1994, clearly the peak year for supermodel album sales – was praised by critics. Though she hasn’t come out with a full album since, Milla frequently releases MP3s on her website.

Joe McKenna – Cha Cha at the Opera

Ok. Ok. Joe isn’t technically a supermodel but you know what, this clip is priceless all the same.

We adore Mathu Placek‘s polaroids for V Magazine fall blowout party. Check out Sessilee Lopez, Liya Kebede and Cecilia Dean up close and personal.

Speaking of V, their new beauty issue has THE top beauty names in the biz. It’s a must buy…

Death is the new black. There’s something about some of the newest images out there that are definitely disturbing.

New classic Brazilian guy by Didio,Leandro Cagliari, in various states of undress of course.

Josh Beech can do it all. Besides the modeling and singing, he’s taking pictures that comment on the personal, political and cultural influences in his travels. A snippet appears on The Malcolm which showcase that this handsome young man is more than just a pretty face.

The Last Magazine, the ultra cool, ultra large fashion/art magazine, needs interns.

Together Again

October 8th, 2009 |Posted by Janelle

Karlie Kloss and Jourdan Dunn just go together. Whether they are hanging out backstage or appearing side by side in editorials there is just something about the way these two compliment one another that makes for an incredible photograph. Emma Summerton taps into their undeniable chemistry for a Vogue Italia story with a flair for drama. Jourdan and Karlie are mysterious women who are strangely connected with Josh Beech and Ash Stymest at their side the two look pitch perfect. Dressed in fall’s exquisite coats and Alexander McQueen’s unweildy platforms the duo makes for a well matched pair. Edward Enninful‘s impressive styling techniques are on full display but so are Mathias van Hooff‘s makeup skills – the orange lips on Karlie are to die for.

Look Again

April 22nd, 2009 |Posted by Janelle

Lean, tattooed, youthful and edgy – these are the hallmarks of the current male model look, a look personified by boys like Ash Stymest, Luke Worrall Josh Beech, George Barnett and Cole Mohr. Arena Homme + pays tribute to male modeling’s resident rebels via a series of serene blue shots by Alasdair McLellan. Considering the nearly indistinguishable portraits one has to wonder – with so many boys sporting the tats and attitude has the look reached critical mass?
