The Outsiders

April 15th, 2014 |Posted by Janelle

Fashion relies on outcasts, originals and those with a voracious need for what’s next – Dazed & Confused‘s latest issue salutes those visionary spirits. A Givenchy clad Mariacarla Boscono graces the first cover in an arresting image styled by Panos Yiapanis. Sporting multiple piercings and a wealth of sequins paired with simple tartans in Willy Vanderperre (Art Partner)’s cover shot, Mariacarla serves as the perfect representation of fashion fearlessness. The eternally cool Jamie Bochert sports archival Ann Demeulemeester styled by Katy England on her cover for an apt depiction of the nonchalant edginess Demeulemeester’s label embodies. Celebrated Belgian actors Matthias Schoenaerts and Veerle Baetens feature on two limited edition covers also shot by Vanderperre and styled by Robbie Spencer. The famous duo serve as the start of an epic 50 page fashion story dedicated to the rise of the Belgian underground and its cultural impact.

High Voltage

February 26th, 2014 |Posted by Matthew

To emerge among the several quarterly and biannual publications out there, a competitive magazine has to carve out its niche and present unique, arresting content. Doing just that (and then some), London-based Volt Magazine has amassed an impressive offering for its Issue No. 15. In collaboration with French brand The Kooples, Volt has multiple cover stories for Spring 2014, including Idina May Moncrieffe photographed by Luc Coiffait and Jeremy Dufour shot by Dean Rogers. Generating a comprehensive look at trademark London aesthetics, Volt achieves a captivating balance between urban style and high fashion fantasy. On one hand, there’re “Ordinary Boys” Michael Sharp and Reece Sanders styled by Christopher Preston and a shoot by Piczo, while Jamie Bochert embodies fashion editor Victoria Adcock’s “Femme Severe” and Nick Knight photographs Cynthia Lawrence-John’s stylings in “She Sells Sanctuary.”  Haven’t gotten your high voltage fix? Don’t worry, there’s even more inside Volt 15.

Maker’s Marc

June 7th, 2013 |Posted by Janelle

For resort NYC’s fashion king showcased two very different looks united by their focus on ease and their unpretentious take on luxury.

MARC BY MARC JACOBS
Model: Magdalena Jasek

Marc by Marc’s youthful spirit is evident in the line’s upbeat resort offerings. The mixture of whimsical trompe l’oeil detailing and layered digital prints, creates a vibrant feel, while classic shapes call to mind vintage cool. Who wouldn’t look fabulous with a well placed black beret and a great A-Line printed skirt? Add in layered chiffon separates, a slew of covetable overcoats and choice satchels from the brand’s inescapable accessories line and you have the makings of the perfect ingenue wardrobe.

MARC JACOBS

Marc Jacobs’ fondness for pajama dressing has made headline news and his resort collection isn’t entirely pj-focused, it captures the same relaxed, understated vibe he’s been channelling lately. Though mariner stripes and loose silhouettes abound there is still a touch of glamour via sequined pieces and artfully detailed furs. The ladylike leanings of tweed jackets and satin skirts cannot be ignored, even when they’re paired with Birkenstock-esque sandals and stomach baring tops.

Editorial Inspiration: La Cicatrice Intérieure

April 25th, 2012 |Posted by Janelle

Jamie Bochert has long been one of the most in demand models in the business, but for Interview she shares her skills behind the camera, serving as photographer for a special editorial, The River’s Tide . Featuring fiancé and frequent collaborator Michael Pitt, the edit captures the mood of Philippe Garrel’s La Cicatrice Intérieure, with a modern twist. Jamie gets to the essence of the movie’s appeal with her dreamy imagery while Elin Svahn‘s gypsy styling ads the right fashion punch. It is no accident that the shots look a bit like film stills, the Interview story is part of a larger work, namely a film directed by Bochert that was “inspired by turn-of-the-century Swiss explorer Isabelle Eberhardt’s spiritual journey across the North African plains.”
