First Look: Document Journal

April 29th, 2016 |Posted by steven.yatsko

The soon-to-be-out S/S ’16 issue of Document Journal is a who’s who of the here and now, and if the 8 covers fronted by fashion’s royalty like Hedi Slimane and Grace Coddington didn’t tip you off, then here’s the inside to take you there. Between the amusing and uncommon imaginings of collaborators like Willy Vanderperre and Olivier RizzoColin Dodgson and Joe McKennaRoe Ethridge and Robbie Spencer to the pleasurably picturesque–like Coco Capitan‘s unassuming take on Lena Hardt or Venetia Scott‘ suburban-backdropped portraits styled by Sarah Richardson, there’s probably nowhere better to be. Starting now, Richardson will be the magazines new fashion director. Casting goes full out too, to good effect thanks to Piergiorgio Del Moro and Samuel Ellis Scheinman: models Stella TennantRianne van RompaeyAlice MetzaEstella Boersma plus more, use their respective demand to bring the issue to the far side of choicest. See below an exclusive Models.com preview of the issue before it hits stands.

Document Journal will be on sale the first week of May exclusively at Dover Street New York, BookMarc New York, Iconic Magazines New York, Dover Street London, Broken Arm Paris, Colette, 0FR Paris and 10 Corso Como Milan, and available worldwide the following week. Bad girls do it better in the latest i-D Magazine‘s “Rising Up” issue. Daniel Jackson dials up the edge in these rock steady visuals that are heavy in moody attitude. Skin meets skin as Damaris Goddrie, Cai Lee, Imaan Hammam, Aamito Lagum, & Dilone are clad in leather pieces from Saint Laurent, Alexander Wang, and Lanvin styled by Ludivine Poiblanc. Individualism continues to shine through as beauty team Esther Langham and Francelle Daly embrace the girls natural curls and waves with an elevated look of smudged, smoky eyes and highlighted skin.

10 Magazine Gets Fresh with Fall

August 18th, 2015 |Posted by steven.yatsko

Touching on the gamut of autumn’s fashion notes, 10 Magazine hit the stands yesterday with multiple covers following a revamp. Though, nothing overly autumnal here. From the looks of things, 10’s fall is about fun and flash. Lindsey Wixson‘s beauty cover by Donna Trope keeps things crisp and rosy with floral accessories adding just enough gloss. Meghan Collison by Richard Burbridge is a reminder that chic is always modern, and Harleth Kuusik‘s cover reflects on a waning summer while looking forward to this season’s color palette. These three ladies of the moment were styled by 10’s own editor-in-chief Sophia Neophitou, while newcomer Unia Pakhomova’s cover by CG Watkins was styled by Hector Castro10 Men Magazine also has multiple cover stars: Lucky Blue Smith, Matthias K, Rory Cooper and Dylan Bell. All play around with more asymmetrical poses donning the latest wares for the guys, styled by Hector Castro.

Amazing Grace

November 12th, 2014 |Posted by Janelle

With her delicate features and bright blue eyes, Grace Hartzel is one of the prettiest models to grace the pages of fashion glossies of late, but don’t let the doll-like beauty fool you Grace is a force to be reckoned with. Over the past few months Grace has been steadily racking up a slew of impressive editorials, working with some of fashion’s coolest publications and best photographers. With three editorials in a row in Vogue Paris, a chic only-girl story in the latest Interview Magazine and compelling shots in British Vogue all eyes are on Grace. Coming off the heels of an impressive season (and exclusive) season is an accomplishment, but following it up with editorial after editorial of quality is what makes a model a star.

Cover Crew

November 21st, 2013 |Posted by victoria

Karl Lagerfeld shoots his new muse, Joan Smalls, for the latest cover of Vogue Espana. Lagerfeld truly captures the essence of the model’s beauty, where she completely shines in black and white. The magazine absolutely closes out 2013 the right way with Smalls and a cover as stunning as this.

It’s no surprise to find Karlie Kloss gracing the cover of Vogue Japan shot by Patrick Demarchelier— this marks her third cover for the magazine in almost six months. As always, however, the outstanding Kloss looks fresh, flawless, and still delivers sex appeal in a more conservative look by Sabino Pantone.

Casting: Piergiorgio Del Moro

Abstract Expressionism

August 19th, 2013 |Posted by Janelle

The intersection of art and fashion never fails to create arresting imagery, but the September collections edition of Dazed & Confused takes things one step further with an inventive fall editorial by Daniel Jackson. Transforming Esther De Jong, Casey Legler, Danielle Zinaich and Bridget Hall into gilded abstractions the story is a one of a kind take on the season’s key fashions. Hair and makeup by Francelle Daly and Esther Langham adds a painterly touch, while a razor sharp manicure by Tracylee provides a touch of danger. Stark styling courtesy of Alastair McKimm hones in on the minimalist yet decadent look of the moment, adding a gothic twist via a range of textured black pieces and expertly layered furs. The full look combines to re-imagine model as a living sculpture – distorted yet expressive and compelling.

Seeing Spots

May 30th, 2013 |Posted by Janelle

When Haider Ackermann filled his S/S13 runway with transparent creations emblazoned with black and white dots, it seemed like an unusual move. Polka dots are a fashion standard dating back years, but the diminutive patterns are more often associated with the prim styles of the 1950s than with the kinds of cutting-edge wares favored on Paris’ runways. The designer so known for his innovative use of lush, saturated color was showing another side, taking one of the most uncool of motifs and making it feel new.

In keeping with the current craze for all things graphic, stylists have embraced the versatility of these simple circles, working Ackermann’s creations into a variety of editorials. On occasion the interpretations don’t veer too far from the runway approach (fashion abides by the ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it’ mantra whenever it can) but the excitement comes when the spots are complimented by clashing patterns to create a dynamic visual treat. Whether it is layering in another of Ackermann’s prints from S/S or adding a bold kimono for interest, the real fun lies in the mix which offers stylists an opportunity to show their creativity.
