Sugar & Spice

July 30th, 2010 |Posted by Janelle

Has Steven Meisel gone soft on us? The master photographer is showing his sugary side with in the new campaigns for Juicy Couture and Mulberry. The overdose of bright colors, youthful energy and over the top girlishness may have some missing Meisel’s darker moments, but the carefree shots of Hanne, Abbey, Eliza and Daria are perfectly atuned to the lighthearted feel of both brands.

Wilderness Retreat

June 7th, 2010 |Posted by Janelle

Steven Meisel and Marie-Amelie Sauve take readers into dystopian territory with a daring editorial for Vogue Italia. Eva Herzigova, Tanga Moreau, Cole Mohr, Yuri Pleskun, Will Lewis, Eliza Cummings, Berthold Rothas and Valerija Kelava, star as a set of wilderness survivalists dressed for a worst case scenario. The engaging story presents a unique take on pre-fall’s luxury, with some of the most exquisite designer clothes styled to look like tattered rags, Marie-Amelie’s talent as a stylist is once again on display and so is Pat McGrath‘s skill with a makeup brush. Meisel’s versatility shines through as well; think of how different this is from last month’s VI glamour fest.

Arabesque

May 6th, 2009 |Posted by Janelle

There isn’t a look that Sasha Pivovarova can’t bring to life. With her piercing stare and boundless energy she captures Bedouin inspired feel of Vogue Italia‘s May cover. The combination of Steven Meisel and Sasha always brings about stunning results and this cover is no exception. Granted, last month’s Eliza Cummings cover featured similar imagery only to have a grunge influenced feature story but were hoping that this issue with its ‘Great Escape’ tagline leads us on a path straight to Negev.
