Document Based

September 4th, 2014 |Posted by models.com

Why have just one great cover when you can have six? Document Journal‘s F/W 2014 covers feature this season’s mega-models including Saskia de Brauw, Daria Werbowy, Stella Tennant, Raquel Zimmermann, Binx Walton, and Edie Campbell. The variety of this season’s covers show how the photographers & teams brought their own unique spirit to the table. Each cover stands alone, but artistry serves as a unifying theme bringing the diverse covers under the same creative umbrella. Contemporary art star Richard Prince shoots Daria Werbowy against an abstract canvas backdrop, while sculptor Isa Genzken reimagines Stella Tennant as a living work of art. Document’s impressive slate of photographers unleashed their creative side as well with Collier Schorr offering a studied portrait of a paint accented Saskia de Brauw. Roe Ethridge transforms it girl Binx Walton into a modern day Eve – complete with creeping serpent, while Richard Bush taps into Edie Campbell‘s reserves of cool with a Vuitton clad shot. Last but not least, hair stylist du jour Guido Palau collaborates with Fabien Baron for a special cover taking the versatile Raquel Zimmermann and capturing in an austere fashion that is both slick and stripped down.

We love each and every new cover of Document and can’t even pick a favorite… can you?

LV Overload!

August 26th, 2014 |Posted by Janelle

If there is one collection that is getting editorial love this September it is Nicolas Ghesquière’s debut for Louis Vuitton. While LVMH is generally no slouch in the editorial department, Ghesquire’s work has gone that extra mile – appearing on the cover of or within the pages of almost every single September issue thus far. For fans of the designer’s work the constant sight of logo printed belts and playful dresses has been an appealing constant thread amidst the past few months of editorials and covers, but how much is too much? Take a look at the line’s recent front page appearances and decide. Stylists show no signs of slowing down with their Vuitton obsession so you can expect to see the iconic luxury label rack up even more covers as the month winds down.

Photographer’s Choice

August 21st, 2014 |Posted by Janelle

When it comes to September issues Interview Magazine has raised the bar this year. Enlisting seven of the world’s premiere photographers to capture images of their ideal women Interview unleashed a series of covers high on creativity and filled with an appealing array of women from the world’s of modeling and film. Each image is powerful in its own way whether it is Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott (Art Partner) creating an idealized portrait of supermodel Naomi Campbell or Steven Klein (Art Partner) showcasing the erotic side of Oscar winner Nicole Kidman. With photographers given free reign to execute their images however they like and drive the direction of the September content the issue is heavy on arresting visuals and the kind of full-tilt creative freedom that makes for exciting editorials.

Supernormal

August 13th, 2014 |Posted by Janelle

Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott (Art Partner) ditch their superglossy style in favor of the naturalistic in this picturesque story from W Magazine‘s star studded September issue. The glamour is still there (it’s hard to shoot a cast this gorgeous without infusing some glamour into the images) but the focus is on the normal, unfussy charm of t-shirts, jeans and hoodies. Led by Kate Moss the beautiful cast poses understated pieces chosen by Edward Enninful, stripped of the gowns and finery the group looks at completely at ease – more like a gathering of good friends than a group of the world’s top models. Daria Werbowy, Mariacarla Boscono, Raquel Zimmermann, Saskia de Brauw, Lara Stone, Suvi Koponen, Meghan Collison, Anna Ewers, Mica Arganaraz, Daan van der Deen, Filip Hrivnak and Steve Milatos make for a gorgeous group – especially in the shots where they’re sporting skivvies and smiles.

Style & Substance

August 5th, 2014 |Posted by Janelle

It doesn’t take much to make Daria Werbowy look good, but Josh Olins brings out Daria’s best in the pages of WSJ‘s fall fashion edition. The globe-trekking supermodel looks luxe in Nicolas Ghesquière‘s debut Vuitton collection and a series of other looks selected by Alastair McKimm. With a laid-back grace that is evident whether she’s wearing jeans or draped in furs, Werbowy pulls off the looks admirably lending the story a seventies style cool that makes even the priciest pieces seem down to earth.

Read the WSJ’s accompanying interview with Daria where she reveals her surprising choice for a second career.

September Reign

July 30th, 2014 |Posted by Janelle

By now we’ve all heard the story about celebrities taking precious magazine cover spots away from models, but this September it appears the tides have turned. After years of stars on the front pages more and more magazines are looking to models for their biggest fashion issues. British Vogue boasts Cara Delevingne looking sleek in Nicolas Ghesquière‘s collection for Louis Vuitton in an image by Mario Testino (Art Partner), while Elle UK enlists a Prada clad Kate Upton for fashion forward shot by Matt Jones. Though the September covers are only just starting to debut you can already see which collections are going to be inecapable for the next few months.  WSJ provides a fetching seventies style image of Daria Werbowy by Josh Olins that also puts Ghesquière’s wares to good use. In keeping with the trend The New York Times’ T Magazine reaches for Prada, sheathing Vanessa Axente in one of the brand’s oversized coats in a strong cover image by Craig McDean.

Pradafied

April 3rd, 2014 |Posted by Janelle

What makes a Prada girl? Is it beauty? Is it chic? Or is it that altogether intangible it-quality that separates the best from the rest. Sasha Pivovarova has it, Daria Werbowy has it and now Prada taps yet another face blessed with it – Chicagoan Lexi Boling steps up to the plate in the brand’s pre-fall campaign shot by Steven Meisel. Looking at ease while holding an array of accessories Boling captures the quintessential Prada look.
