Savage Beauty

April 14th, 2011 |Posted by Janelle

American Vogue pays tribute to the late Alexander McQueen with a thrilling retrospective of his work and a preview of the MET’s upcoming Savage Beauty exhibition. Shot by Steven Meisel and styled by Grace Coddington, the story is a fitting tribute to one of fashion’s true masters.

Jumper!

April 12th, 2011 |Posted by Janelle

With her boundless energy and skill for posing mid-air Caroline Trentini has become synonymous with the Vogue studio editorial; it isn’t a proper issue of Vogue without at least one shot of Trentini jumping. Good thing the magazine’s latest issue features Trentini in two stories: the first a seasonal special by David Sims and Camilla Nickerson that pays tribute to the current fixation with all things mod and the second a preview of the Met’s McQueen extravaganza complete with stunning portraits shot by Steven Meisel and styled by Grace Coddington.

Cover Up

July 20th, 2010 |Posted by Janelle

Steven Meisel serves up an elegant story with an impressive cast for Vogue; Christina Kruse, Sasha Pivovarova, Caroline Trentini, Daria Strokous and Mirte Maas, star in Meisel’s woodland fantasy and look impeccable in fall’s ornate and luxurious coats. The girls aren’t the only stars of the show though,  Marie-Amelie Sauve‘s skillful styling, makes the eclectic pieces look even better than they did on the runway.

Met Mavens

May 4th, 2010 |Posted by Janelle

The red carpet of the Met’s Costume Institute Gala is always a scene for fashion moments and mishaps, the attendees either look incredible or completely regrettable but no matter what the outfits are memorable. This year was no exception with scores of actors, models and fashionistas turning up in their sartorial best, but who won the evening when it came to style? Did Chanel Iman’s Kors jumpsuit look refreshingly modern, or overly glittery? Was Doutzen’s Zac Posen a little too prom queen for you, or was the look perfectly sweet? Was Sasha’s beige Marni the bomb or a total bust? Tell us who you think looked the best, or the worst and take a look at the roundup of chic model looks.

Bits and Bytes: The Young Americans, Farewell to Ms Sims

August 5th, 2009 |Posted by Betty

2 new young Americans on our radar. Mitch from DNA Models is only 13 years old. We can’t believe it either!

Charlotte from Photogenics is 16, half Indonesian, half English but from the LA area. Amazing lines!

From foster homes to the cover of Life Magazine, we salute the extraordinary and ground breaking journey of Naomi Sims, called the first black supermodel, who died this past week at the age of 61. Wise as well ( “There is nothing sadder than an old, broke model, and there are many models who have nothing at the end of their career,” Ms. Sims told The Times in 1969), she went on to create a successful line of wigs and cosmetics for black women under her name. Read the Times obituary and take a look at some pictures from her inspiring career.

See the Dior Homme campaign; it does, of course have a lot of gorgeous Brazilian men.

Also for our friends in Brazil, here’s House of Models’ interview with Bruna Tenorio (in Portugese).

For the making of Zara‘s Fall/Winter campaign with Toni Garrn shot by David Sims, click here.

How do you get into the world of fashion? Teen Vogue‘s new book explains it all. With contributions by the Kaiser: Karl Lagerfeld, Patrick Demarchelier, Mario Testino, Chanel Iman and Caroline Trentini, this is the book that we wished we had when we started out oh so long ago. Out on October 5th.

Vanity Fair‘s best dressed list is out. Who made the cut from the fashion industry? Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, Georgina Chapman, Tory Burch, Candy Pratts-Price, Franca Sozzani, Natalia Vodianova, Bruce Weber, Peter Beard and Rachel Roy. Eclectic indeed.

Jenna (the no longer Anonymous ex-Model at Jezebel) has a great post on Anna Wintour‘s early days of editing at NY Magazine. Worth taking a sec to see Anna pre-“Never a hair out of place”, along with the most genuine smile we’ve ever seen on her. (As you click through the gallery, make sure you read Jenna’s comments next to the picture).

If Karl Lagerfeld likes you, you will ALWAYS work. Take a sneak peek at his shoot for Purple Fashion with Baptiste Giabiconi, wearing heels, natch.

And what everyone’s been waiting for, the 2009 Pirelli Calendar by Terry Richardson. Italian Vanity Fair has the preview with the full cast (casting by Jennifer Starr). Fashionologie via Italian Vanity Fair.

One of our favorite stylists, Nicola Formichetti is featured on the Cut.

We’re all for more inclusiveness (British Vogue’s Alexander Schulman tackles the size 0 problem). Here’s Jezebel’s interesting take on it.

Here’s another interview for the Brazilian fans.. the very lovely Izabel Goulart.

Funny, funny, funny; French Vogue is “anti-pants” so says Jezebel.

There’s a new documentary coming out about Brazilian models. Though sadly it’s in Portugese only, who cares when you can look the gorgeous Gisele Bundchen, Raquel Zimmermann, Isabeli Fontana, Caroline Trentini, Adriana Lima and Caroline Ribeiro emote in their native language. (Take a peek at rarely seen Cyril Brule, owner of Viva and Marilyn Gauthier, owner of Marilyn’s and photographer Peter Beard).

If you don’t know JD Ferguson‘s background, read about the model/photographer/general man about town and his fun times with Karl Lagerfeld and the top models.

Sans Artifice is a fan of photographer Norman Jean Roy,  he “brings out the Vogue ethos“.

New Dutch model agency to watch! Modelution is featured on the Ones2Watch.
Continuing in the same vein as Sarah Ziff in Picture Me, Frockwriter explores the dark side of the industry.
Gisele AND Jesus on the same runway…. The Brazilians are buzzing about the Colcci show.

If you’re in Chicago, Wednesday June 24th, go meet Elite Chicago’s scouts (click on the link for age and height requirements).

Home of Johanna Knepper (hot new face of Givenchy show this past spring), Just WM Paris has a  new blog!

Terry shooting the 11 beauties;  Eniko Mihalik, Rosie Huntington Whiteley, Catherine McNeil, Abbey Lee Kershaw, Daisy Lowe, Gracie Carvalho, Marloes Horst, Lily Cole, Ana Beatriz Barros, Miranda Kerr, Georgina Stojiljkovic.

Sweet Caroline

June 5th, 2009 |Posted by Janelle

Caroline Trentini is at her best when she’s looking sweet but sultry. The freckle faced Brazilian charmer vamps it up for Sebastian Kim in the latest Numero. Even though she’s giving attitude as in every picture Caroline’s girlishness is still the focus. Who else could look this sexy while still retaining that impish gleam in her eyes?
