Alexander Wang taking the reigns at Balenciaga is a story that will likely dominate the fashion headlines for the next few months. Whether you’re still in mourning after Nicolas Ghesquiere‘ departure, or simply charting the seemingly endless designer shuffle that seems to sum up the current state of flux that permeates the entire industry, this is arguably the most exciting fashion news in a long time. Ever since Cathy Horyn revealed the scoop in her NY Times column the subject has been hotly debated. The one thing everyone can agree on though, is that this begins a new chapter for Balenciaga, one that will determine the brand’s future. We will be waiting with baited breath to see what Wang comes up with for his first Balenciaga collection.

Another exciting new appointment, The Last Magazine‘s Magnus Berger has been named the new creative director of Wall Street Journal’s WSJ magazine. Considering the uniqueness and beauty to be found in every single issue of The Last, we’re expecting big things from WSJ in the coming months.

Karl Lagerfeld never stops, so it is no surprise to find that he’s part of another exciting collaboration. Lagerfeld and Brazilian line Melissa shoes have teamed up for a new global partnership, one where Lagerfeld will design 4 special footwear capsule collections, the first of which will be unveiled in March 2013.

Pre-fall collections are starting to trickle in, with new looks from Belstaff, Helmut Lang and Reed Krakoff.

The line between art and commerce blurs even further with Net-A-Porter set to launch a print magazine, which will surely be as elegant as their online editorials.

To end our news brief on a high and start the week out with some beauty, take a look at Elie Saab‘s latest fashion film, a delightful tour around Paris featuring the brand’s decadent resort collection.

The Lights, Camera, Action issue celebrates all things imbued with star quality – see more about this on i-D Online. We can’t pick favorites from the Spring issue covers – though it is nice to see Agyness Deyn right back where she belongs, winking back at us from the pages of a glossy.

Lone Rider

October 24th, 2011 |Posted by Janelle

As a model Agyness Deyn has achieved just about every goal a girl could set for herself: the best covers, the biggest shows, about a million a-List campaigns. She’s even provided the earnest intro for Rihanna’s latest video. What is next for a girl who has done it all? In the latest issue of Twin Magazine Deyn reveals her cinematic aspirations and details what it was like to work alongside names like Franco and Fiennes. In the corresponding editorial, Ben Weller captures Deyn looking androgynous and cool with a West Coast twist befitting her new existence in Los Angeles.

Rebel, Rebel

June 13th, 2011 |Posted by Janelle

Artist, director, actor, author – is there any creative career James Franco hasn’t tried his hand at in recent years? Hollywood’s favorite multi-hyphenate seems keen on testing his skills in numerous arenas so it is unsurprising to see him giving fashion photography a go. In the newest Elle Franco shoots Agyness Deyn as a latter day James Dean (Deyn also serves as fashion editor) while Natalia Bonifacci plays Sal Mineo in Franco’s gender-bending tribute to Rebel Without A Cause.

It is always cool to see newcomers take on the traditional fashion editorial and Franco’s snapshots have a certain unstudied quality that makes them interesting; are you a fan of his efforts, or do you think he’s better off sticking to his day job? Let us know in the comments!

Downtowners

August 9th, 2010 |Posted by Janelle

V’s fall fashion extravaganza is dedicated to the city of New York and it kicks off to a great start with Alasdair McLellan‘s portfolio of fashion’s inspired by the effortlessly cool look of the East Village. Styled by Beat Bolliger and shot right on Saint Mark’s Place, the shoot features combat boots, chunky silver jewelry and a whole lot of layering to create a look that is a surprisingly luxe blend of punk and grunge. Who better to embody the edgy feel of the story than Agyness Deyn? The trendsetting model (and East Village resident) is back and better than ever. With her blonde buzzcut and tribal inspired makeup, Agyness looks like a young Sinéad O’Connor.

June 16th, 2010 |Posted by Betty

Boys’ First Looks, gouache, watercolor, chalk, graphite & frisket on paper
50″ x 42″, Paris. Backstage at Givenchy Men’s show June 2009.

For you West Coasters, casting director and artist Daniel Peddle‘s show Backstage is in San Francisco for 3 more weeks. We adore Daniel’s dreamy watercolors works which not only captures the ephemeral world of backstage but transforms the normal hecticness into a surreal, contemplative realm.

Fashion news:

Wow, do we love Daphne Guiness, who bought Isabella Blow’s entire wardrobe. “Like any artist, it should not be dispersed, but remain as a monument with people having access to it,” said Ms. Guinness.

Nicola Formichetti rumored to be Thierry Mugler’s new artistic director…. True or false?

Brits invade France. “With Pugh probably in at Mugler, it seems like Paris’ major houses are getting a British makeover. Giles Deacon just took over the helm of Emanuel Ungaro with help from Katie Grand and Phoebe Philo has been holding it down in Paris for years, recently at Celine and previously at Chlöe (where fellow Brit Hannah MacGibbon currently resides).”

Harold Tillman (owner of Jaeger and Aquascutum and President of British Fashion Council) was awarded a CBE; Designer Tamara Mellon and uber photographer Nick Knight were awarded OBE’s from the Queen. That’s a pretty big deal for those who didn’t know about it.

Modeling news:

Constance, Freja, Natasha, Sasha, Sessilee. If you haven’t seen the preview for the Loic Prigent see it here now documentary for French Vogue, . A fascinating glimpse into the fabulous and oft times lonely life of the new supermodels.

First Lara Stone for Calvin Klein, now Alessandra Ambrosio for Moschino by Ines & Vinoodh. Sexy is most assuredly back for fall.

We’re also excited that Calvin Klein’s Francisco Costa has done away with using size zero models. It’s about time fashion at its highest level pushed for healthier looks and practices.

Oh too cute: Imogen Morris-Clarke has a new blog with a pic of herself as a child.

Here’s Agyness Deynin the trailer of her new film with Linus Roache. She looks damn gorgeous.

V Man’s new issue is out and it’s chockfull of fantastic new shoots including that infamous Shrek shoot that Dreamworks is regretting. We love it!

Congrats Danny (of Igor & Andre) for making it to Teen Vogue! May all your other fashion dreams come true.

Many attended Anna Wintour’s tribute to Irving Penn at Pratt Institute but we especially love Fashionista’s report that shows even Ms Nuclear Wintour can be touched by the legend’s greatness.
