Pre-Fall Finery Pt. 2

January 8th, 2013 Posted by Janelle comment (1)

Pre-fall looks keep coming, take a look at some of our favorites from the recent collections and be sure to share yours in the comments.

JEAN PAUL GAULTIER
Model: Alex Yuryeva

After last season’s 80s kitsch escapade, Gaultier’s pre-fall offerings seem downright subdued though they don’t lack for elegance. Gaultier creates an eye-catching silhouette by splitting key looks in two, showing a masculine and feminine side all in one look with pinstriped suiting on the left and delicate knits on the left. Ensembles like this aren’t for the faint of heart, but the daring Gaultier client is sure to respond to these sartorial feats.

PRINGLE OF SCOTLAND
Model: Agne Konciute

Pringle never fails to deliver a strong knit and their pre-fall collection is no exception. Exploring the idea of classic twinsets with a twist, the line offers a refined mix of monochromatic outerwear looks and layered textures. Working with merino wool in a variety of textures and coordinating colors, the design team created an especially modern take on knitwear staples. Standouts included the jacquard turtlenecks and the stunning ribbed trench, rendered in dusty rose for a touch of romance amidst all the austerity.

CHLOE
Models: Nadja Bender, Nouk Torsing and Rosie Tapner

Chloe’s strength lies in its ability to tow the line between wearability and feminine flights of fancy. Claire Wright Keller understands this balance and her pre-fall collection offers a genteel take on wardrobe staples like the leather bomber jacket, minidress and structured overcoat. Delivered in an dainty palette of peach, mint and lipstick red, the Chloe look manages to be girly without verging into frou frou territory; with the addition of the sleek black pieces Wright-Keller gives the Chloe girl a chance to delve into more sophisticated territory.

CARVEN
Models: Brittany, Bergmeister, Valery Kaufmann, Santa Urbane and Alexandra Martynova

Is it just us or have all the cool girls been wearing Carven a lot lately? Designer Guillaume Henry has the market cornered on an appealing brand of quirky cool and his dresses always manage to look chic, yet unaffected. For his cinema influenced (Henry was inspired by Isabella Adjani’s look in Roman Polanski’s 1976 film, The Tenant) pre-fall lineup Henry created a series of youthful looks that mix beautifully. Printed overcoats layered over lacy dresses and thick knee-tights, topped off with giant glasses, metallic bomber jackets, fuzzy turtlenecks beneath mod-shifts, it all worked beautifully.

Sophistication is key in the world of Armani and Saskia de Brauw serves as the perfect incarnation of the Armani woman in the brand new S/S ads. Poised, refined and of course clad in crisp suiting straight of the runway, de Brauw shines in Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott‘s seamless images.

Editorial Inspiration: Donna Jordan

December 14th, 2012 Posted by Janelle comments (2)

Once you get past the main editorial and its glossy tribute to the timeless Jerry Hall, the new Vogue Italia offers you a look at another iconic blonde beauty of the 1970s. Though perhaps lesser known than some of her disco-era ilk, Donna Jordan ranks among the most influential models of all time. Before Lara Stone was even born, Donna was the bleach browed, gap-toothed beauty who set the trend. Whether she was being shot by photographers like Helmut Newton, Guy Bourdin and Oliviero Toscani, or appearing in Andy Warhol films Donna demanded the attention of the fashion crowd. Paolo Roversi‘s colorful tribute to her unique style casts Iselin Steiro as the titular 70s beauty and captures her look wonderfully.

THE ORIGINAL

Donna covers Vogue Italia & Vogue Paris, 1970

With fellow super star, Pat Cleveland

Donna by Oliviero Toscani for Vogue Paris, 1972

EXCLUSIVE: Longchamp Leaps

December 13th, 2012 Posted by Janelle comments (5)

Take a first look at the S/S 13 campaign from Longchamp, in all its glory. Shot in JFK airport’s historic, Eero Saarinen designed TWA terminal, the campaign is all about movement; who better to embody that idea, than the jet setting, high flying and haute posing, Coco Rocha! In her third season working with the luxe brand, Coco delivers her signature acrobatic poses all while playing the part of ultra-chic traveler, a role we’re sure she’s familiar with. Fellow catwalker Liisa Winkler joins her for the journey, since every trip is better with a fashionable friend and the duo busts a move even as they head through airport security. Fun fact: choreographer Salim Gauwloos, the man behind Madonna‘s Blonde Ambition tour collaborated on the imagery. Take a first look at the new ads and the behind the scenes imagery below.

Pre-Fall Finery

December 13th, 2012 Posted by Janelle comments (3)

Pre-fall’s appealing fashions just keep on coming, every day a new set of designers releases their collection and across the board there have been beautiful looks to love. Take a look at a few of our favorites and tell us yours in the comments.

PRABAL GURUNG
Models: Tilda LindstamKremi Otashliyska and Tian Yi | Images Courtesy of Prabal Gurung

For pre-fall Prabal Gurung namechecked Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo and Juliet as a reference, so we knew we were in for an exciting mix of the old and new. Mixed prints are all the rage, but no one does them with as much finesse. We’ve seen Gurung do impressive riffs on the traditional floral in previous seasons, but pre-fall’s lush interpretations, whether embroidered or printed are simply stunning. Add in the Mexican textile inspired pieces, Gurung’s unique take on tweed and of course and of course those intense colors and you have the makings of a compelling collection.

PROENZA SCHOULER
Models: Amanda Murphy & Wylie Hays | Images Courtesy Proenza Schouler

Cool girls rejoice, your wardrobe has arrived! Lazaro and Jack never disappoint and their pre-fall look is all about texture, wearability and adaptable pieces that fit right in to your life. We’re already craving those incredible metallics separates and the brand new Courier bag, another surefire Proenza hit.

JASON WU
Models: Sharam DinizMartha Hunt  & Andreea Diaconu | Images Courtesy Jason Wu

Is it just us or has the Wu girl evolved into a very sexy miss? S/S saw the designer in a decidedly daring mood with his tasteful dominatrix inspired styles adding just the right amount of darkness to his repertoire. Pre-fall finds Wu continuing to traipse down the road less traveled, with a series of revealing looks that flirt with danger. Sequined gowns with transparent panels showing off a touch of skin, leather accents, touches of gold – it all makes for one scintillating package.

ZAC POSEN
Models: Crystal Renn and Anna Cleveland | Images Courtesy Zac Posen

Never one to skimp on the glamour, Zac Posen gave fans a suitably decadent pre-fall collection, filled to the brim with dresses fit for the galas, film premieres and invite-only fêtes Posen girls find themselves attending at least once a week. Opera singer Maria Callas was on Posen’s mind this season and it shows in the diva-worthy ball gowns and theatrical details. Posen makes clothing for women with personality and flair, but just about anyone would look camera ready in that red satin number.
