Glamour Age
April 13th, 2010 Janelle comments (39)David Sims pulls out all the stops for Vogue’s tribute to American style through the ages. Tonne Goodman‘s styles as Sims touches on several glamorous constructs of American dressing – from Raquel Zimmermann as an electric diva of the screen, to Chanel Iman as a happy-go-lucky flapper or Karlie Kloss and Frida Gustavsson as socialites, each girl is styled to perfection and just right for her theme.

Raquel Zimmermann – Silver Screen Siren

Sasha Pivovarova – Bohemian

Liya Kebede - Patriot

Chanel Iman – Flapper

Frida Gustavsson and Karlie Kloss – Heiresses

Lara Stone – Silver Screen Siren

Daria Werbowy – Gibson Girl

Patricia van der Vliet, Kasia Struss and Mirte Maas – Patriots

Daria’s photo is kinda like Edita’s in the Wang lookbook. Although I prefer Edita’s more.

i find these “look through the ages” eds are so off. this just looks confused and i don’t think the studio + location dynamic is working at all. this looks very cut and paste.
however, FRIDA!

The first two shots just look like a regular old studio shoot from Vogue. Jumping/movement pics in front a grey screen. The kind of editorial they give us every month (two of them in last months issue). So it’s nice to see the breakaway with the picture of Liya and then the rest of the shoot is actually pretty cool. And nice to see from fresh faces in Vogue.

This is terrific. So much to love. The Liya outdoor shot is a nice break. Heiresses is perfect.

Amazing.
Karlie is certainly working to pay that gas bill! Love that image.
I think that the image of Chanel is perhaps my favorite. It wreaks of fast-jazz. Hear the symbols and drums colliding a la Charlie Parker.
Raquel is amazing as per usual. She’s selling the story from head to toe.
Liya is very believable. Could she had done any better of a job portraying the angst with a side order of over powering optimism?! Beautiful.
That styling on Sasha by Tonne is an absolute dream!!

I’M GLAD THAT AMERICAN VOGUE FINALLY MIXED UP THEIR MODELS A LITTLE!! I JUST HOPED THAT THIS EDITORIAL REFLECTED ON THE COVER!!

Karlie Kloss walks like she’s on air in the catwalk. Very light, dreamy and elegant. The most elegant to be exact!
Is it because of her ballet lessons?

Chanel’s msile like Angelina Jolie.
PterModel, you are right. Karlie is always like flowing on catwalk or picture like she doesn’t have body weight at all.

Great, although that Daria pic is awful, I get it but it just doesn’t look good on her (and she’s an incredibly gorgeous woman).
Love seeing Frida here, what a face.
And Lara.. she should be on the cover of American Vogue.

American VOGUE’s really whipping into better shape…
I love, love, love Chanel’s Flapper…Her smile is just so beautiful. Karlie Kloss, my God, I wrote on my blog how I’m a little sick of seeing her on VOGUE, scratch that..Beautiful. Kasia Struss too is divine. Actually, everyone’s just super fine. Is this Grace Coddington’s?! Please say yes.

i think these pics are so boring! very deja vu!! and boring photgraphs! but whats more is these pics are SO NOT AMERICAN STYLE!!!!!! THE ONLY PIC THAT REPRESENTS AMERICAN STYLE IS DARIA!!! I HOPE VOGUE WILL PRODUCE SOME MORE INNOVATIVE AND FASHIONABLE SHOOTS FOR NEXT ISSUE!!! AND RAQUEL WITH RED HAIR IS JUST OFFFF!

I don’t like the mix of studio and location shots as a complete story.
