Ad Age

January 15th, 2010 Posted by Janelle comments (40)

Millions of fashion ads are duking it out for your attention this month but who will win? Sonia Rykiel, Moschino and Tom Ford, each offer up different versions of glamour atuned to their image of their brand; for Rykiel Alana Zimmer and Marike Le Roux look very Parisian chic, while Moschino goes for irony with a kitschy shot of Isabeli Fontana by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, dark lipliner and piles of gold jewelry have never looked so good. Finally, Tom Ford gives us a sexed up Carolyn Murphy paying special attention to ‘A Single Man’ star Nicholas Hoult. Tan lines aside, Ms. Murphy looks phenomenal – I completely forgot this ad was selling glasses…

So tell us, which ad grabs you the most?

Rykiel and Moschino are selling fashion.
Tom Ford is selling, as usual (sigh), sex. Does he ever think outside of his own box? (pun intended)

  11. Jenna says:

definitely the tom ford. the other two are rather pedestrian. i like to see shoots where there is risk or surprise

  12. LD says:

Haha, Janelle’s cool^^^. Anyways, I vote Tom Ford.

  13. Laura says:

Shame about Moschino, it’s pretty boring. I like Sonia Rykiel though, and I really wasn’t expecting to see Nick Hoult in a Tom Ford campaign.

  14. kiss kiss says:

Sonia Rykiel, It’s all about class! Carolyn Murphy’s hand looks awkward I understand that she is trying to cover the nip but it is bothering me terribly.

  15. peterModelObsessed says:

    Tom Ford.

But they should give Carolyn Murphy more hips.

  16. MDC_270808 says:

Obviously the Tom Ford ad makes you stop and look, but the Sonia Rykiel ad makes me STARE! I love the way Alana & Marike just gaze right back at you as if they know something…. it’s almost eerie yet sweet, like they’re the twins from Stephen King’s The Shining all grown up! I must say I vote for this one :)

  17. peterModelObsessed says:

Is my favorite actress Vera Farmiga the inspiration of Sonia Rykiel? The look is very Farmiga-ish!

The Moschino ad is not as clever as it used to be. They had Isabelli jump and took a shot! Kinda uninspiring. But isabelli’s beauty save the ad.

  18. peterModelObsessed says:

Carolyn Murphy wearing nothing but a heavy eye makeup. lol

  19. Steph says:

    Moschino !!

  20. GP says:

    Tom Ford, Alwayssssssssssssss

Moschino is boring but Isabeli catch my eyes.

    SR is beautiful and classy.

  21. DecadentLady says:

I’m sick to death of Tom Ford and his oversexed ads since his work in Gucci, way back in the early 2000s. It’s no different with this new ad, though both Carolyn Murphy and Nicholas Hoult look fantastic.
The Moschino ads are very cheap looking and I don’t like Isabeli at all. So I vote for Sonia Rykiel, though it’s not the most mindblowing picture in the history of fashion ads.

  22. Sean says:

TF, as usual, but Isabeli looks gorgeous.

  23. Claudia says:

    Tom Ford, as usual :)

  24. carola says:

I have to say I’m impressed with Carolyn, she looks better than ever in this ad (of course it also looks heavily airbrushed). Give any dying brand to Tom Ford and he’ll revive it. he was never much of a designer but such an eye for beauty and marketing.

Gorgeous Isabeli, but are they making fun of those old pics Meisel took for Escada American Vogue, around 7-8 years ago)??

Rykiel looks kind of blah, although I love the expression Alana Z has on her face.

  25. Antonio Barros says:

    Cazrolyn looks sooo hot!!! :)
    I love it!

  38. michelle says:
