December 14th, 2009 Janelle comments (32)Nothing livens up a studio shoot like a touch of inspired casting : Kasia Struss makes her American Vogue debut in a story by David Sims and the results are exceptional. We get the traditional high-flying, jumping escapades of Vogue’s studio shoots, but we are also given Tonne Goodman‘s expert styling in shades of beige and khaki, Guido Palau‘s hairstyling (very similar to his work at the Alexander Wang show) and Kasia looking incredible.

I like her better as a blonde

I liked her more in darker hair, she had more character. As a blonde she’s a little to plain and too much like other girls, but still nice. I’m proud that polish girl does so well in a fashion.

Why does a model have to get her hair extra-blond to get into the US Vogue? a la Natasha Poly-style?!!! And no, I like Kasia, but her hair here looks really weird to me…

Really? I’m BORED by this! Not memorable despite the model being used. Another sweep under the rug story by Vogue. So tragic.

I like blonde hair and brown eyes…personally. Not on this model so much…she looks a little odd. But that blonde and brown combo worked for Bridget Hall, to absolute perfection.

looks really good as a blonde, actually better than as a brunette. Looks more expensve.

Vogue uses this formula a LOT, a grey background, and a cheerful, chipper American teenage model swinging an expensive bag, (Coca Rocha, Liya, Karlie Kloss) and tossing her long hair. It’s a littttle redundant, but at the same time I am almost getting so used to it, that I do not mind. You notice the clothes – not the situation.

I do think this girl looks a little too bare…sort of like an Old Midwest wife…stoic and too thin

The only thing I like about this spread is the Alexander wang inspired hair. Sorry! It totally bores me.

The braid AND eyebrow from Alexander Wang
The first two photos are gorgeous, but we can’t really attribute that to Vogue can we? How hard is it to recycle runway inspired makeup, and a runway recycled outfit?

wow… i love Kasia… i still remember her serene appearance on Jil Sander’s ad campaign a few seasons ago!!!
and yes, i agree, finally the Raquel-, Jessica-, and Chanel-days are over (at least for this issue)… we need a breath of fresh air… what about Liu Wen?

These are boring BUT I do love Kasia, she looks much better as a brunette but she was a brunette for a long time so maybe it was time for a change. I think Women is the best agency, to be able to book Vogue for a girl who’s been around for so long it’s an amazing feat, nowadays some girls are booking Vogue after a season or two, so it shows their dedication to management.
