Love Jones
December 1st, 2009 Janelle comments (36)Many models have attempted to imitate the allure of Grace Jones, but few have succeeded in capturing the icon’s appeal. In the latest Vogue Paris, Rose Cordero transforms into a young Grace and displays the elegance and intensity that made Ms. Jones legendary. Paola Kudacki‘s vivid photographs and Melanie Huynh‘s retro styling, help to make this the perfect tribute to all things Grace.

Have been a big Rose fan, so it’s nice to see her finally get the attention she deserves!! Is it me or does Rose, in general, give off a Prada/miu miu vibe?…

This feels like it’s been a long time coming, and what a strong debut this is! I’m hoping this opens the door for more Rose in Vogue Paris!!

Many have tried and failed disgracefully to recreate the Jones look. However, one of my favourite to date, is of an androgynous boy signed to a London agency called United Models. The images published in a New York magazine shot by Photographer Roberto Aguilar was just excite…
The boy’s bone structure captured that Jones allure…Even at first i thought it was Grace Jones, until i saw the credits……

Looks great, but kind of wish it wasn’t a “get this look feature”. Would have been better as a full on tribute.

Viktor & Rolf se han bien inspirado de ella para el maquillaje y los peinados de su ultimo desfile!

Wow! This is fantastic! Rose has come a long way in such a short amount of time… she may not have the same intensity and edge as Grace yet, but I think she is definitely going to be one to watch out for!

It looks great. Rosie is perfect as Grace Jones. Kind of wish it wasn’t a “get this look” feature though. Would have been better as a full on tribute.

Might that be the reason why Sessilee is not in this shoot…??
)
she does not do “get this look” features anymore….
However Rose is on fire….. great stuff…but agree this would be better as a full on tribute fashion editorial

There is enough room in fashion for more than 1 model of color. Why is it that as soon as one ethnic model shines it means the others wont! I dont hear this talk when ! more blonde /russian does a shoot. Let’s give Rose her congrats and leave it at that~

if you want to see an amazing grace jones inspired editorial (that should be published in VOGUE) is the new one shot by frank berlin that will be published in PUSH IT, a new magazine coming out of London. IT IS PHENOMENAL with Ataui Deng on the cover. 11 looks with her in pieces from Lanvin to McQueen. YOU WILL DIE when you see it. Styling by David Widjaja. It is quite the team. CT @ VaNgOgH PR

This is what I’m talking about! I saw her Polaroids and was very raw and unattractive, but she has the blue chip! Im glad that people see beyond what is beautiful and see potential in those who are usually considered “ugly”, whatever that means!! see what someone who usually can be ignored look when potential is seen! viva rose!

Absolutely stunning work. Exciting for her! Could be a strong sign of things to come.. The girl can werk. I thought it was Sessilee in the tag image.
On the down side of things..Dontcha guys just love how Grace Jones is apparently the only great and uber stylish woman of color that gets any play?
Can we mix it up alittle bit for heavens sake!
Josephine Baker, Lena Horne, Dorothy Dandridge, Diahann Carroll,Tina Turner etc. They may not have delved as deep into the modern fashion world like Grace Jones but they could serve as points of inspiration and give life to some updated, beautiful creations, no?

And of course the ladies above came of age before the time of modern fashion/music a la Grace. But again, they can serve as great reference for a fabulous update!
