Pagan Poetry

August 20th, 2009 Posted by Janelle comments (32)

There is nothing like a pleasant surprise to get the season started right. The September issue of V comes with a staggering special supplement that focuses on the cerebral beauties at Women & Supreme Management management. The lengthy portfolio by  Paul Rowland re-imagines 19 of the industry’s most captivating faces as pagans – complete with flowers, insects, slabs of serrated flesh and of course, blood. The end result is raw, hypnotic and about a thousand times more interesting than most of the covers we’ve seen this September. Seeing Alana Zimmer, Alla Kostromichova, Behati Prinsloo, Christina Kruse, Daiane Conterato, Darya Kurovska, Georgina Stojiljkovic, Hanne Gaby Odiele, Hannelore Knuts, Iris Strubegger, Isabeli Fontana, Meghan Collison, Mina Cvetkovic, Natasa Vojnovic, Ranya Mordanova, Rose Cordero, Suvi Koponen, Valentina Zeliaeva and Yulia Kharlapanova in this new light highlights not only the versatility of the girls but also the sheer reserves of talent that can be found at these two powerhouse agencies.

  7. MosS77 says:

Iris Anyone! oh isabeli looks good here as well…

  8. jnc says:

will more girls be in the editorials?

  9. AJP says:

The necklace that Ranya and Natasa wear is absolutely frightening! It looks like it’s made out of fingers! I suppose that’s the point, but it’s still very bizarre.

  10. KatModel says:

That looks like a giant shedded snake skin around Iris’s neck… amazing!

  11. Gustavo says:

There´s something i dont get! The girls were wearing black make up and everything, resembling Michael Jackson´s Thriller and the face paiting of some indonesian tribes, but the images available at models.com dont match the ones from the video! What is displayed here are the cover versions for each girl of the shoot? If it is, id rather stick with the messy make up i´ve seen on the video, those are much more striking!
Too bad Ana Claudia Michels images didnt make to the final cut! Georgina and Alana are sooo beautiful, they could have been movie stars in the ´50s! PLus: Hannelore and Natasa are still rocking arent they???

  12. Janelle says:

Gustavo, these are just the covers of the supplement. Each supplement has two covers and these are the full set. The video also shows you the editorials inside the supplement. It is a very large (almost 100 page) supplement so we put up the covers so everyone could see all the girls.

  13. Lorianne says:

wow, 16 covers and not a single person of color…

  14. billy says:

i can’t believe that there is no color why no georgia shes beautiful i just don’t get it at all

  15. I have to be discreet...I work in the industry! says:

When is models.com going to stop kissing and sucking up to V Magazine & The Paul Rowland aesthetic!? It’s becoming boring, and a bit obvious!

Maybe you guys should go back to your roots to an create your own ‘editorials.’

  16. alexander says:

actually, there is a person of color, rose.

  17. Gustavo says:

    Thank you Janelle!

  18. Janelle says:

I have to be discreet, I really must object to this. If ANY agency had a full supplement in V it would be on Models.com. This is a unique way to display the girls and to promote the agencies – as Christine nicely pointed out upthread there are 3 agencies represented here. Not just one.

Even if you don’t love the aesthetic this is an excellent publicity tool and something fresh. It certainly caught my attention and I actually think this is something that is good for the industry as a whole. Maybe its just me but I think creativity fosters more creativity and the more cool projects going on, the better. As an industry we have to think outside the box nowadays so I feel like were actually going to see more things like this. Personally I cant wait.

As for V magazine, I think that we actually just like V magazine. I can only speak for myself but I’m only shelling out dough for a few September issues this year and V is one of them. V is just an interesting magazine – I’d like to think that we feature all the Vogues and other great mags like Dazed, Self Service and Purple just as much.

  19. GP says:

They all look like beautiful ghost!!! I like Valentina the best.

  20. Porja says:

    Valentina is gorgeous!

  21. Nigel S. says:

Seriously?! Overall, Weak in my opinion. Fresh? absolutely! It’s clearly grabs attention.. Which is most important it seems.
Most of these girls are quite flat unfortunately…

On a different note, many women, albeit caucasian, will see alot of accessible faces here that she may identify with, since the board offers a diverse caucasian face. So in turn, alot of young ladies may be a tad more inclined to pick up this issue of V as opposed the bombshell on the magazine nextdoor, whom she envies (but can’t get enough of).

In my opinion the only covers worth purchasing, based on models “selling-face”; Isabeli, Suvi, Daiane, Iris, Darya & Georgina.
    But to each his own.

  22. Xanax says:

THere is a woman of color there. Look at Rose

  23. Bucalon says:

Daiane Conterato in this great stage in the fashion and ready to get back to ranking Top 50 Women! Update

  24. Kim says:

I really enjoy V, too. It’s not Vogue but has it’s own place in the market. There’s a magazine for everyone. I think what I love about it the most is that it’s offbeat and fun.

  25. carola says:

Nice! Hmm most interesting pics would be Daiane, Iris and Ranya, and I’m not even a fan of them. I love Rose, I’m dying to see what happens with her career.

  26. george says:

    this spread is just awful!!!!
it’s so uninspiring and plain ugly!!!!

and i agree mr/miss ‘I have to be descreet..’

  27. ella says:

MODELS.COM DELETED 2 OF MY COMMENTS ALREADY BECAUSE IT DIDN’T AGREE WITH THEM!!!!!

    PLEASE, POST THIS

    THANK YOU

  28. Christopher Y says:

this is absolutely gorgeous!!! i’ve always been a big fan of Supreme and Women… they’ve got all the editorial girls… and they all look so unique and beautiful in their own way… ;)

  29. Allison says:

I don’t understand all these comments of hating these covers and what not, certainly to each their own, but all of these images are gorgeous. The video also was fantastic and changed my view on a model or two, actually. I was never much of a fan of Hanne Gaby Odiele, but this video really changed everything. It showed more accurately than pictures just how gorgeous she really is.

Though I do have a question. Judging by her make up and hair and portrait pictures, Amanda Laine should have a cover, but I’m not sure whether this is the case? Regardless, great article and images!

  30. Starrpower says:

Lorianne ur kind of an idiot.
I’m sick of people making random racial comments and everyone assumes the complaint is coming from a black person. When usually it is not. Great covers A+

  31. hara says:

    it’s incredible
    this is real ART

  32. paula says:

I don’t undestand… I’ve got the september issue of V and there’s no supplement!! Is it sold separately? Is it sold only in the US? Sorry for the stupid question, it just bugs me…
