Instant Classic

The Steven Meisel and Kristen McMenamy reunion was destined to be impressive but the end result is even more dynamic than we expected. With her intense gaze and shock of long silver hair Kristen looks as edgy today as she did at the start of her career. Standing the test of time is a feat but retaining the coveted cool factor for close to two decades is impressive in and of itself. Dressed in only the most dramatic designers, Kristen truly looks like the legend she is.

  1. Love the fourth shot, but she looks like a gothic playboy bunny in the last one. LOVE Stevens work–he never fails to capture my attention. He’s the legend.

  2. Gives me chills… Like wine, Kristen and Steven together just get better with time. The 4th shot, which is super, is to me, very Japanese horror film vision.

  3. Kristen is the proof that true models never lose their flavor. I just looove how young people dare to name a new-face as ‘the next supermodel’ and then the girl just vanishes from their sights. It doesn’t take and overnight to become a supermodel, it takes years, it takes maturation, and Kristen evolved into a leading star of her generation that’s still rocking today. I don’t think her lips are Adriana-Lima-like-sexy but it just matches her face and makes her even more attractive, that silver hair…OMG I haven’t seen something so beautifully unusual in many years; and then Steven Meisel comes and takes Ms McMenamy to her usual fashion stage, Vogue Italia, and all you can expect is something legendary shown by a supermodel who has definitely a ‘Style and Personality’ that will never be matched by anyone in the business. Back in 2008 as I was looking at Vanity Fair´s supermodel spread, it came to my mind that maybe the supermodel thing is not a big deal for the younger fashion audience because they were not interested in fashion like 15 years ago, when the big girls were still strutting their stuff on all the runways; And now all they can hope for is that someone like Gisele will look dazzling and a fashion critics say she is super, and it fulfills their idea of supermodeldom. She is definitely super, but not the SUPER that people like I used to see on the magazines of the nineties. Back when there was no Models.com or fashion blogs, we would rush to the nearest newsstand every month to get a copy of every single magazine we could, Vogue US, UK, France, Italia, Top Model, and that made it even more special to us to be able to follow a models career by just not knowing what they would do next, which new territory they would dare to explore. Now fashion editors do editorials that are not always 100% fresh, always recycling ideas from the past and using girls that they believe someday will be called ‘supermodel’. To the models of today, take my advice: Kristen is not Linda, Naomi or Christy, and although she is not an ambassador for a beauty brand, nor the face of a very prestigious parfum – she is a Superstar, a powerhouse in her own right, and no one will ever be able to accomplish the things she did on her career.

  4. It is great to see a real woman, a real supermodel when shot by Meisel versus all these anonymous girls that get thrown in and out of his rotations. She is forever, like Linda. I think Anna J will be the next girl to go on for ages with him.

  5. I can’t stand how excited I am to have this issue in my hands. And I wholeheartedly agree with everything Gustavo typed above. These new girls have NOTHING on the legends of 15 years ago. Viva Kristen!

  6. she s n will always be an unique inspiration…about the shooting i m totally disappinted…too much like march 08…sorry but guys this s vogue.. n they should do something more that just title it LEGENDARY…

  7. STEVEN MEISEL DOESN`T NEED NEW GIRLS FOR GREAT EDITORIALS, HE NEEDS INSPIRATION; AND HE TAKES THE INSPIRATION FROM GOOD MODELS, HE DOESN`T NEED A LOT OF MONEY TO MAKE GREAT IMAGES, LOOK THIS FOR EXEMPLE, FOR ME THEY ARE JUST CLASICAL AND ELEGANT, WHY NOT UNFORGETTABLE?

  8. just about Meisel doesn t need lots of money…what r we all supposed to do to have the best models the best clothes the best make up artit the best hair stylist the best location…n please the best retouchers if not havign un unlimted budge that only conde nast could ever give u ..plus the colors he used this time r very Steven Klein..i think it d be time for new talents to come out ( n please dont think about Emma Summerotn who s simply useless…)

  9. oh my god, Gustavo……….you brought up Top Model magazine. i used to LOVE that magazine back in the day. i think i still have every single issue of it. i’m going to have to go dig them up and look through them.

  10. THIS BITCH STLL GOT IT! SO INSPIRING……….. WELCOME HOME, CHICA!

FASHION IS STARTING TO REALIZE THE TRUTH!

  11.
