The Biz: Altuzarra Wins & Versace Returns

Joseph Altuzarra‘s CFDA portrait by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin
The results are in and the big winner at this year’s CFDA awards was none other than Joseph Altuzarra (who we interviewed back in 2009). With previous winners like Proenza Schouler and Billy Reid, the award serves to shine a light on the very best in emerging talent and provide a substantial platform to help designers grow their businesses. Altuzarra’s lighthearted spring collection was a bit of a departure from his hard edged vision of femininity, but it showed a great deal of versatility. Vogue.com

Don’t call it a comeback, Versace is set to return to the couture stage with their first full show since 2004. Up until recently brand’s seasonal couture showings were low key editors only affairs, but come January 23rd Donatella brings the legendary Versace showmanship back to the runway. | Women’s Wear Daily

California Song booklets being printed – via Hedi Slimane Diary
On the eve of his exhibition, ‘California Song’ at MOCA New York Times examines the former designer’s second act as a successful photographer. For more on the exhibition, running now until January 22nd visit MOCA’s site.
Slimane’s exhibition at MOCA will be divided into two parts. An installation and a series of black-and-white print photographs from his California years will be presented on the ground floor, and a sonic, motion-photography installation, produced specifically for MOCA, will be featured on the second floor. The installation will reference a multi-projection, cubic, architectural format, which Slimane has constructed in previous exhibitions to present his photographs, using serial construction and repetition to create an archaic form of cinematic narration.
