Deja Vu

Isabeli Fontana.
Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.
Vogue Paris.

Is it just us or do Mert & Marcus have a little Meisel crush? Remember their recreation of Meisel’s Kristen McMenamy Vogue Italia cover? This time around they cast Isabeli Fontana as a 21st century version of Linda Evangelista by Meisel on the cover of VP. We’re beginning to see a pattern, though Meisel isn’t the only photographer M&M have paid tribute to. Their series of covers for LOVE draws direct inspiration from the work of Helmut Newton.

I hate the direction VP is going.
Anja, Isabeli, Raquel, Daria, Malgosia every issue.

The only good thing IMO is that we’ve see Anna de Rijk, Sasha and Karmen in every issue till now. But i’m sure that’s going to be boring after a couple of issues too. And where’s Natasha?

If we could just forget about “Meisel crush” for a moment, the cover is beautiful. Is it VP? Well, we don’t know yet what really new VP is.
Although Isabeli looks more like an Italian (Sicilian) woman (Linda?), the blue and the white background are very Greek. And yellow masthead could be the sun that lightens up the purple Dior dress. Complementary colors? Or is it just a myth?

I enjoy the word tribute/crush when COPY would be more accurate.

You already know how I feel about her.
I L-O-V-E her. A true Goddess. She’ll be around for a long time to come yet. Gorgeous..
Loved her spread in Vogue of this month and very much looking forward to flipping thru the pages of this issue.

Mert & Marcus are stellar, duh!

i almost couldnt tell the difference between mentioned edit. but who cares, love the first and the second one! and is becoming more exciting with their covers then v.italia. and im a patriot – so this is serious.

I would prefer this look with a less flouncy dress. The great thing about the Linda Steven Meisel pics was how cinematic they were. Linda really was working a character caught in an emotional moment. It was the combination of the theatricality and the hyper beauty that made it so epic.

This homage captures the make up and the look right but has no emotion. It’s just selling a dress.

  13. Dia says:

Isabeli is very beautiful, but I wouldn’t compare her to Linda. Make-up can do wonders.

  14. Imma says:

what a cover! it is looking stellar! this is certainly the best cover of the 3 Emmanuelle did 😉 no matter if the model is portraing a modern Linda or Sofia Loren.. she’s a goddess, the short hair suits her a lot! Isabeli is working very hard and obtaining her icon status day by day
