Element of Style
April 18th, 2011 Janelle comments (14)Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott draw inspiration from 90s classic The Fifth Element in their latest editorial for Interview. With Guinevere Van Seenus playing Milla Jovovich‘s Leeloo with flaming red hair and a minimalist all white wardrobe provided by Ludivine Poiblanc. Do you think the high fashion tribute does the film justice?

It’s a very cool ed and I always love M&M and generally like Guinevere too… but does anyone else kind of agree she’s being shot in the exact same way for every shot? Slightly tilting the head back and shot from underneath with mouth open and variations of the same head position?

Yeaaaaaaa love the movie but it was anything but minimal….and I agree it is pretty bland

I actually love it!! Sure it is simple, but Guinevere can models anything, and that hair is amazing!! You might like it in print.

In the Fifth Element Leeloo is full of Energy and Vibrance, here Guinevere looks like she’s fading away or going to sleep!
The shots could be more hotter if she’s alive and in motion……
just lacking energy!
Jessica Stam or Sasha P. could also be a good choices

Weird that i just watched 5th Element the other day… But this is awesome. Very dynamic. Looks a lot like a Balenciaga ad
2nd picture looks like Stam from her earlier days

With drawing inspiration from the character Leeloo it works. “modern interpretation” from the past meets what is the current “modern interpretation” for the future.

reminds me so much of Malgosia’s first campaign for Jil Sander, by David Sims (s/s ’99): http://styleregistry.livejournal.com/361837.html

the styling is a winner here! And that flaming hair, of course! The poses are pretty much the same…

I don’t think Guinevere is suited to fill Milla’s shoes. I would have liked to see someone like Leigh Lezark.

She definitely has a different feeling in each shot…does she canel Milla?, not always. Besides the red hair it seems very non decript, its a more elegant & relaxed feel. As a matter of fact I don’t feel the fifth element at all in this editorial.
It feels to me that they are going for a more 60′s retro vibe with hot hair style that is new, modern and fresh…..fresher than the Rihanna Doo done in 2011 or so.
I love that shes stoic and not readable its what makes entertaining and non static.
Keep up you amazing work m & m love your new Versace w/ k m.
keep giving them more to criticize about..
