Let’s DANSK
January 27th, 2011 Janelle comments (17)Thomas Penfound astounds on the cover of DANSK‘s latest issue. Drawing inspiration from androgynous icon Annie Lennox’s hit Missionary Man, Aitken Jolly and Anders Solvsten Thomsen transform Thomas into a flame haired beauty. This is the 25th issue of DANSK and the overarching theme is ‘towards uncharted territory’ an idea echoed throughout the content. Inside you’ll also find a few surprising images of Baptiste Giabiconi by Bojana Tatarska and styled by Morgan Hamada Ruiz, as well as this thought provoking quote.
“One day I went up to Karl and said: ‘Why me? What is it you see in me? Why do you only work with me?’ And he told me it’s because he sees something in me that he doesn’t see in other people, something in the way I carry myself. Karl said: ‘I see both a man and a woman in you at the same time.'” – Baptiste Giabiconi

What is with the industry’s current fascination of making boys look like girls?

What’s wrong with it @MissBnicole? (not trying sound rude)
The fashion world is androgynous, in my opinion never really feminine nor really masculine, It’s a beautiful mixture of both.
And both (girls looking like boys vice versa) have been fascinating the fashion industry for a long time – this shouldn’t be new news to you.

I didn’t say there was anything wrong with it, I just think it would be more “shocking” or interesting if someone shot, say, Andrej Pejic as a man instead of a woman. Fashion is supposed to be about creativity- let’s try something new.

I agree, about the creativity it needs to be more open – I suppose I can say, it’s just repeating itself and needs something fresh & true it would be nice to see Andrej Pejic as a man instead of a women.

Andrej has been shot as “man” for i-D, Wonderland and even in his Marc by Marc ads, I don’t see how him playing to either stereotypical gender role represents anything creative. You can be masculine while wearing a dress and feminine in a suit and tie. Androgyny is not a current fascination, it is as old as the sun and still manages to push buttons because our culture remains obsessed with putting people into boxes.
Not that he has anything to do with this story. I think the shots of Thomas are great. Nice to see a new haircolor on him instead of just the bleached blonde. Baptiste I can take or leave, but the quote is pretty funny.

MEN SHOULD BE MEN NOT GIRLS!

I agree, there are plenty of male models who are not androgynous. Can we let go of the stereotypical gender roles?

I agree. All this lady boy action is yawn inducing. Its not attention grabbing anymore it’s just fashion’s new black; another tiresome cliche.
I wish magazines would stop copying each other and show us something new.

Thomas looks fantastic! And Baptist bores my life all the time I always think of Zoolander when I look at him… Though he is sexy.. And gender bending is funny and we DO see lots of men as MEN the mix should remain a constant trend and not call it “the new black”! And the hair color is great

The modeling industry is about being completely different and unique… and it has to be! I think the androgynous look is amazing, and we need more of it. It’s fashion, it’s hot.
LOVE THIS!!!

tremendous job, Thomas. you’ve really outdone yourself this time. it’s a far leap from your other work and you’ve revealed a side of yourself I haven’t seen before. I await for what has yet to come.
