Campaigning
January 12th, 2011 Janelle comments (28)Campaigns. We can’t get enough of the Spring ads. Unlike previous seasons where an overarching theme repeated through several campaigns, S/S 2011 is all about individuality; whether that means smart city chic ala DKNY’s clean ads featuring Heidi Mount and Kori Richardson, or all out fantasy as in the butterfly filled, Lindsey Wixson ads for Alexander McQueen. Some campaigns keep true to the spirit of the collection – Louis Vuitton’s chinoiserie motif repeats in the Steven Meisel helmed campaign, while others go in bold new directions. Armani’s refined collection is given a styling update in the ads by Nick Knight, the addition of a turban on Elisa Sednaoui gives the look more drama.
Even the simplest campaigns seem to have different moods this season; both Valentino and Calvin Klein go for black and white purity, but Valentino’s feminine David Sims shots of Caroline Brasch Nielsen, Julia Saner and Freja Beha Erichsen, are the exact opposite of CK’s austere Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott images of Lara Stone.

Heidi Mount & Kori Richardson for DKNY

Lara Stone for Calvin Klein

Raquel Zimmermann, Freja Beha Erichsen & Kristen McMenamy for Vuitton

Elisa Sednaoui for Armani

Lindsey Wixson for Alexander McQueen

Julia Saner & Caroline Brasch Nielsen for Valentino
Also featuring: Freja Beha Erichsen

Freja Beja in Louis Vuitton looks lethal. She beats Kristen and Raquel in that ad.
The Best Model in any Campaign.

Julia Saner looks AMAZING in the Valentino ads. Raquel and Freja are my favorites, but the Vuitton ads (like the collection) is a little disappointing.

LV is genius.
I don’t really get the McQueen ad, as much as I love Lyndsey W…
Lara looks too thin now, not what she was before. I’m not enjoying looking at this CK ad.

FAO Janelle: Janelle, what’s going on with DNA? It’s suddenly disappeared from all references on Models.com? I knew they were moving offices, but have they closed altogether? I know there have been major ruptions at Major, is DNA another casualty of the ever-changing NY model scene, it should be unlikely as DNA is such a powerhouse, but look at IMG mens, Women/Supreme, it can happen. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

If the Alexander McQueen brand wants to be accessible and appealing to younger crowds, I think they can’t find a more better model than Lynds….
What do you think?

Freja is an excellent model but the Louis Vuitton as is cheesy.
The colors are horrific. And Raquel looks like a Drag queen. Kristen doesn’t have that Kristen Mcmenamy look, and Freja looks a bit like Ranya.

DKNY & Armani are a bit of a bore.
I generally do not like Lindsey, but I think she’s great for this particular McQueen campaign.
