Masquerade
September 27th, 2010 Janelle comments (36)Wouldn’t it be nice to go to the Vogue Paris 90th Anniversary ball? If you haven’t received your invite from Carine just yet the latest issue of Vogue Paris might be enough to raise your spirits. The festive theme runs throughout the issue culminating in a stunning editorial by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. VP regulars like Lara Stone, Freja Beha Erichsen, Crystal Renn and Mariacarla Boscono join newcomer Daphne Groeneveld and dance star Roberto Bolle for a visual feast styled by Mme. Roitfeld herself. The graphic black and white images show off some of fall’s most innovative pieces and perfectly capture the vitality we’ve come to expect from Vogue Paris.

that Roberto is HEAVEN. yum yum yum
Also maria carla is queen. So simple yet so fierce. And I hate using the word fierce but I feel like it’s the best descriptor for the divine miss Boscono.

There is no doubt that photoshop controversy notwithstanding, Renn HAS lost weight and is however in the healthy parameters of a tall slim woman, probably only slightly heavier than Stone before Stone was accelerated into modelling stardom and lost weight to be size 0. The thing is Renn is gorgeous, and if anything her weight loss is most likely attributed to a woman who is just happy, exercises, has her eating under control in a healthy way and that contentment is reflected in her physicality. Labelling women as being plus, size 0, model sample size etc is so destructive – what is a model anyway? Anyone who sees Renn in editorial or advertising knows that this is a woman with an innate understanding of how to sell clothes, how fashion works and who is undeniably absolutely beautiful – a model, the real deal. She’s brilliant at her job. Perhaps it’s time to stop categorising Renn in terms of her weight, her size, how she came to prominence and just look at her for what she is – a real model. And then change can come in the fashion industry, and the destructive allure of size 0 or size 00 will finally be redendered obsolete by examples of women who are happy, healthy and slim. The supermodels weren’t size 0, Stone wasn’t, she is now, which I think is far sadder than Renn’s weight loss. Renn hasn’t lost weight to be a size 0, she’s lost weight as a result of being happy in her skin – and that should only be applauded. Whatever size, she’s a damn fine model.

To everyone who complimented the photograph: GRAZIE! There is a little story I would like to tell you about the inspiration behind this photo shoot. Apparently, Mert and Marcus came up with the concept during the weekend, after attending a Lady Gaga concert on Saturday. I only wish Mert had not watched that “Borat” rerun on Sunday…
Ciao!

My one opinion is the shoot would’ve been perfection without the naked male model. just sayin’.
